In 1994, Jerry established his business, Jerry's Handy Service, Inc as a side venture during his time with TECO Energy. Throughout the years, his enthusiasm for home improvements increased a deeper passion for home renovations. Come 2001, the company implemented wage cuts for numerous long-time employees, and Jerry was affected. At that moment, he decided to invest in himself as a full-time entrepreneur. So, he took a loan from his 401(k) and transformed into a dedicated business owner specializing in improving properties.

In 2004, Jerry placed a tiny ad in the local newspaper. That small ad attracted the attention of the Tampa Hillsborough Action Plan. The head of the weatherization program reached out to him for a discussion to become a service provider for the organization, which broadened his customer reach. By 2009, Jerry was approached by a company called American Project & Repair to serve as a contractor on their projects. By 2011, American Homes got in touch with him.
