I have been very pleased with the two times that I've hired Jeff Bernard for my home repairs. I consider the jobs well done and would eagerly hire him again. Prior to using Jeff, I had some terrible experiences and dreaded having to look for a plumber, but this time was different. Jeff's ethics impressed me so much that I was compelled to write this review to share my experience.

I called early in the morning to have a sump pump swapped out. I was told he would be there soon. I waited all day and had to leave but left someone there with a check. I was floored to find out that the bill was $850.00 for less than 1 hr of work.
I called several plumbers and they all agreed it was outrageous! Also, he left not paperwork. no receipt or owner's manual! I don't know if this is even a new pump. I plan on reporting him to the BBB.

Horrified after calling to have a plumber come to install a bathroom vanity and dishwasher. $500 both jobs were incomplete and I was kept waiting for almost a month for a second return. The dishwasher was defective that I had purchased, so he removed it and called the store in front of me saying he would return the dishwasher and get another one... And then left because he had an appointment after making plans to return the dishwasher. He then failed to plug the garbage disposal and I had a flood ruining new baseboard wood... simply because he ""forgot"" if anybody wants to see the chain of text messages on that one... Let me know. Don't do it! He further gave me a hard time although I was a paying customer... And responded to some of my messages like ""I'm working"" although I was a paying customer from three weeks before. Revolting. Oh wait! Then he blocked me because he knew he effed up...typical avoidant behavior when someone knows that they screwed you. Yuck

They installed a new hot water heater for me. They came on the same day I called, which was important. However $2000 for a hot water heater that can be purchased for less than $350 from Home Depot seems expensive. I won't call them again.

EXPENSIVE!!! While I realize that a reputable, experienced plumber can be worth $100 an hour, $150 per hour seems more than excessive. To give credit, he was prompt and his work was good and it was our mistake that we did not ask up front what his charge would be. He came to the house to unhook our gas line on our clothes dryer and then came back a week later to hook the new one up and also at that time replaced our shutoffs for our washer. For 2 hours of work plus the first trip to the house he charged us $500. I thought that was a lot of money. We questioned him and was told that his service charge is $200 (but that he gives repeat customers a reduced rate) and his hourly rate is $150. He told us that since it was after hours the first time he came he had to charge more and also because our dryer was in a tight spot (in our first floor bathroom closet) he had to charge more for that as well. I also didn't like that when my husband called to have him come back, his girlfriend asked if my mother would be at the house again (she had graciously met him at the house the first time since we were at work). I thought this was strange and I would hate to think that having my seventy year old mother writing a check out could have impacted the final price of the job. Needless to say that we will not be calling on him again.

Had my main sewer line back-up in my three decker , I call Jeff Bernard Plumbing and Heating. They showed up in less than 2 hours. They snaked the pipeline, I watched them bring up many personal items ( that should not be flushed). I resolved my problem and it was the price we agreed to - even thou it took them much more time than they thought. Good and Professional

Jeff Bernard Plumbing, Heating & Drain Cleaning Jeff is a nice guy, but $450 to stop by for 30 min to hook up jumper cables to a sink and unfreeze a pipe? I'd look for another plumber if you don't want to get fleeced.

CLARIFICATION: On the day of service, we were able to talk Jeff down to $400 for the work, though he maintains that $450 is his routine charge. BUT he called our house a month later and threatened to sue us for the above review! He shouted at me on the phone for a few minutes before I finally hung up. There are so many plumbers in this area, there's no reason to return to someone who is so patently unprofessional.

Here are some previous complains about Bernard:

Clearly we're not the only ones who have run into problems.
