I have used Maddox Plumbing since I moved back to LC (2016). One time they installed a Pelican soft-water system, which seemed to work great until I gradually lost water volume (a year and a half later)... not knowing the problem, I called LC Plumbing to see what was wrong (since it takes up to 2 weeks to get an appointment with Maddox). Come to find out that we were getting ""brine"" from the softener in our pipes which clogged up the aerators; due to to much water pressure being passed through the system. Maddox did not check the pressure going into our house, and did not put in a regulator at the water softener tank to keep the pressure under 80psi (a sticker is on the front of the tank in plain sight stating not to go over 80 psi - see photo). Which means we now need to replace/fix the water softener. I contacted Maddox and talked to the owner, Kevin, asking if he would fit the problem since they did not install a regulator. His comment was, ""we put this in a year and a half ago"" ... ""how come I didn't call sooner""... I was informed that the softener tank brine gradually breaks apart, so I wouldn't have know this until I start losing water volume. He also asked how did I know if the pressure hadn't changed. I have had strong water pressure since I moved in... I also said that we could contact Moongate Water to variety the pressure (past/present). From there the conversation didn't get any better.
Needless to say, we are paying LC Plumbing to install a unit with regulator and a 10 year warranty. I am very disappointed how Maddox handled this situation, and will not recommend them to friends again.
On another note, I found out that insurance companies will not cover a claim if your water pressure exceeds a certain pressure.

I had a dubious water heater that I knew had several problems due to an amateur installation job. It finally stopped working. My friend's mother suggested Maddox. I called Maddox Plumbing and they came within 24 hours, diagnosed the problem, and within another 24 hours they had replaced the water heater with a new and better one at a typical cost. I would give 5 stars but I am not sure about follow up care as this event only happened last week. But they were responsive, efficient and the plumber was professional and friendly answering all of my questions and giving me regular maintenance advice. If you are looking through a bewildering array of plumbing advertisements, stop now and call Maddox!!

Strike 1:
Maybe I just got the really bad employees, but after a disposal was installed by Maddox, we thought we just had bad drain pipes in this old home, because it just didn't work well. Suddenly, neither did our new dishwasher. Finally, a year later - another plumber with Speedy Plumbing found the issue. Maddox had installed the disposal incorrectly, wrong hoses hooked up to wrong inlet/outlet lines and none of the plugs were removed from the disposal which is required for installation, so of course in addition to the disposal not working correctly, the dishwasher couldn't either because the air gap hose from the dishwasher was incorrectly attached to the disposal and the plug which allows the air gap to work was not removed from the disposal.
Maddox is nice on the phone and does send a plumber quickly, but what is that worth if they charge you for a job poorly done, when you have to get another plumber to fix their work and charge you again?
Strike 2:
During this same time period, before we knew the disposal was installed incorrectly, we also needed our sewer cap clean outs raised above ground. Yep, called Maddox. Two guys came. They ""installed"" risers /cleanout caps, put soil back around the caps & left.
Three days later, thanks to our dogs running around the yard and kicking the top-out caps which fell over immediately, we discovered the caps were simply set on top of the existing open hole in sewer pipes. Not screwed in, not glued, not attached in any way. So when we saw the risers/caps laying sideways on the ground we inspected. Sure enough, sewer line now full of dirt because the caps were just set on top of the old sewer line and buried in 6 inches of dirt. Great Job. We paid $365 for these plumbers to dig 6"", take the old WORKING SEALED caps off, and simply lay $20 of plastic risers/caps on top and bury in 6"" of dirt. I called and told Maddox what had been done. They sent 2 more to fix it. Charged another $365 for the job that wasn't done the first time. Astounding.
Strike 3:
Just before we discovered the disposal issue, we needed a hot water heater removed from the house during floor renovations. I specifically said I wanted the water heater flushed upon removal, then flushed again before re-install because it would sit outside for at least a couple of weeks in the hot weather. The same two who had lazily done the original sewer pipe risers came. When I watched them take the water heater outside and drain it, then leave it outside I asked, did you flush it? The lead plumber said ""No. We only need to flush it before we put it back."" I said I had asked for it to be flushed both when removed, AND before re-installing. He again said ""No. We only need to flush it before putting it back. He also said since I had the old metal hoses they would need to install new ones because after the old ones had been bent in several directions to remove the water heater, those old hoses would leak if not replaced. Then they left.
Weeks later upon needing it re-installed, same two plumbers came. I watched them stick the dolly under the water heater and cart it inside and begin re-install. There was mud and dried dirt clumped all over the bottom of the water heater. They didn't even try to clean it off. They dropped it onto the new flooring and began twisting and scooting it around the floor, grinding mud and dirt into the new flooring. They also left it sitting lop-sided and tried to put it into place. I stopped them. I told them it is rocking because there are clumps of dirt all over the bottom of the water heater. Of course they knew this because the helper had my dust pan and a rag and was trying to scoop up dirt from the floor before I could catch them. I was understandably upset. I had to make them clean the bottom of the water heater before they scratched & ruined the new flooring. They did not like this!
Then, they were hooking it up to the old hoses that they said would leak if re-used. I stopped them. Made them put new hoses on.
Then, after having watched the entire process, I asked ""Did you flush the water heater before you brought it in the house?"" The lead plumber said ""No. We flushed it when we took it out."" I reminded him that they had NOT flushed it on removal because I watched the entire process and reminded him that HE specifically told me they had NOT flushed it upon removal and that he had stated they only needed to flush it before re-installing it. He again said ""No. We flushed it when we took it out"". This conversation went three rounds before I gave up because it was clear they had no intention of doing the job correctly.
We were charged a hefty fee for this experience.
We dealt with black hot water, chunky water, and settlings from the hot water heater for a couple of weeks.
We flushed it.
When I explained to the person on the other end of the phone at Maddox this horrible experience, I was met with excuses.
They were kind enough to give me a $100 discount off a $600+ bill.
Gee.

Might be good, might not. Never got back to me on RFQ. I'll gladly change my review if they get back to me but it's been weeks. I am really tired of businesses that don't want business. Common courtesy is to return an email or a phone call.

Maddox is the best by far! In this day and age it is so difficult to find an honest and reputable service provider but Maddox is the one! I called them at 10:30 in the morning and they had two men at the house at 1:30 the same day! Then they scheduled me for three days later to re-pipe the entire house AND install a new water heater, which was completed in two days! Very professional, courteous, neat, knowledgeable and I know the work is done right! Thank you, Maddox! You're my plumber!

Professional and courteous! I have called during the week to schedule appointments for maintenance issues, as well as one frantic weekend emergency call. Their technicians are knowledgeable and polite, and they always show up when they say they will.

The best!
When you have a plumbing problem call and get on the service list ASAP.
Worth the wait.
Had a warranty issue with a defective water heater. Maddox took care of everything in a timely manner.

Why aren't there 10 stars? I could only give 5. I contacted Maddox plumbing on the Friday afternoon before the Labor Day holiday weekend, asking if they could hook up my new Natural Gas grill and installing an ADA toilet. I thoroughly expected them to do it sometime the following week, but instead they sent not one, not two, but three people over immediately! (There was actually a fourth guy here, but they didn't charge me for his time.) They got everything done in an hour - including taking a trip to get the correct sized nipple for the gas hookup. All this and my invoice was under $250! From the very pleasant person who answered the phone, to her follow-up to make sure the guys arrived and things were OK, to the service I received, I couldn't be happier. We will use them again and again and again and . . .

I have used Maddox Plumbing for the past 12 years since moving to Las Cruces. I called them Monday (4/18) and scheduled appointment at my residence for Tuesday (4/19) between 3:30-4:00pm. I left work early to be at home for the plumber and was annoyed when no one showed or called that afternoon. When I called to complain the receptionist reported that there was an error in scheduling and refused to compensate me for my lost time at work when they failed to show for the appointment. No discount, nothing. Never again! There are too many other plumbers in this community that actually are considerate of their customers time.
