Very competent personnel in terms of diagnosing problem but severe ripoff prices. They ridiculously overcharge you for their labor. When you request an estimate with precise line item breakdown to understand the basis of their total price quote, they're response was ""we can't do that because this is a flat rate job"". Translation is that they're jacking up the true cost of the job and so can't give you a line item cost breakdown because that would just demonstrate how overpriced their price quote is. Not saying you shouldn't use them, but be aware they are not reasonable in their prices, but not sure any of their competitors are either.
Called Gayson right when they opened 8am because we woke up with no heat. Someone was at my home by 8:30am. He wore a mask and went right to work. I was able to describe the problem and what my husband had tried in order to resolve the issue before he left work. About 15 minutes later the problem was fixed. I paid the bill, more than I had anticipated but wasn't outrageous. About an hour later it was clear heat was not working and I called my husband who called Gayson. Same man came back with another worker. After about 15 minutes or so Gayson showed up. About a half hour later the issue was solved. Gayson explained what the issue was and that I was not going to be charged for the second visit. Not sure what experiences others have had, but we have been using Gayson since we moved to the area and really have no complaints. Having someone come first thing in the morning and making sure the job done correctly is what matters to me. K
First off I do not agree with any of the negative reviews. I have been using Jack Gayson Plumbing for a couple of years now and have never had any adverse interactions with any of their services. I've used them to replace a shower diverted that went bad after 20 years of daily use, also to fix a leaking toilet & install a new thermostat. My latest problem was a leaking hot water heater. There's nothing worse than trying to sleep only to worry about a leaking 40 gallon hot water tank. The next morning I called Gayson Plumbing and was told that they could have someone at my house that very same day. Without hesitation I booked my appointment and Ryan & his helper Frank were here removing my old tank. They had spread out drop cloths to keep the area clean. And I saw just how rusty my hot water had gotten, yuck. Doing routine home maintenance is a must. I'm just glad that I have a reliable & trustworthy Plumber to take care of my plumbing troubles.
I contacted, Gayson again about two months ago concerning water leaking in my first-floor bathroom.
The plumber that came claimed the leak was due to the toilet not having been ""set"" to the floor correctly. He proceeded to cork it even though there was no evidence of that's where the leak was coming from. He never spoke of pricing when I asked him and he was ""certain"" he solved the issue. I believed he had solved my issue and so I paid him the amount of $295.00. I was just happy knowing the job had been taken care of.
Less than a week later the same leaking appeared again. This time I noticed a drop of water from the ceiling above. I contacted Gayson again and another plumber was sent to my house. After explaining why I called Gayson again he looked in my first floor bathroom and stated that the previous situation with the first plumber ""that work had nothing to do with your leak."" I was annoyed to say the least and I asked him if that wasn't the leak why did I have to pay him $295.00? He had no answer as to why the first plumber had sealed the toilet to the ground when that was not the origin of the leak. He went on further to state that in order for him to see where the leak was originating from he would have to open up part of my first-floor bathroom ceiling. With no other choice I say OK. Once he sawed open my ceiling, he stated he need to open up more of the ceiling. In the end more than 3/4 of my ceiling is open and exposed and he still stated he didn't see where it could be coming from. He then claimed that maybe when the bathroom was remodeled in 2005 maybe the plumber left out the ""liner."" He stated he had to call his owner, Jack Gayson to come look at the job. In the mean time I informed the plumber I was experiencing a clogged bath tub in the second-floor bathroom shower. He, the plumber assured me this was still not connected to the leaking issue. He looked at the second-floor tub and he snaked the drainpipe and cleared the pipe. Still stating that this was not related to my original leak issue but he wanted to be paid for the work he did before the owner came and so I paid again, this time $228.00. He tore a hole in my ceiling, of the first-floor bathroom and never answered who was going to fix it up?
The owner came over while his worker there and they had a low voiced, conversation and then the worker left. The owner, Jack Gayson in a low tone in speech mumbling when explaining what he didn't know where the problem was. After looking at the first-floor bathroom he proceeded to the second-floor bathroom. After five minutes of just looking he claimed I was missing a ""chloroloy shower pan."" I asked how he came up with that ?
I brought in two other plumbers to get other estimates they both stated that had if I had not placed a shower pan when the bathroom was first done I would have had a flood the first time I used the shower. And just to make sure I even spoke to yet one more, plumber 3 in total, they did not come on the same day or were they told anything about each other. They all said the same thing. Jack Gayson offered no other reason or did he do any diagnostics or testing of the shower to see where the leak was coming from. When I mentioned that I had to pay $523.00 for two jobs that did not solve the problem, and I wanted a refund or apply that to the job for payment. Jack Gayson couldn't and wouldn't look at me or answer my questions. He rushed the rest of the conversation in order to leave. As he was out my front door he yelled, ""I'll send you an estimate."" It took me more than two weeks to get ahold of him and another week to get the proposal email. He sent me a quote of $7,795.00 for the labor and work only. I had to supply all the materials, slate floor tiles, wall tiles or different size in the shower drain, grout and anything else that would come up during the job. I then asked him ""suppose you do rip apart the second-floor bathroom tiles and granite and the shower pan is there, now what? Who would be responsible for putting my bathroom back together again? Jack Gayson told me off hand ""that's your problem.""
Now I have a first-floor bathroom with 3/4 of my ceiling ripped open. No leaking for the last several weeks. Jack Gayson told me not to wait because the bathroom upstairs would continue to leak into the first-floor bathroom causing more damage. I haven't had any leaks even with after using the shower every-day.
Since his estimate he sent, Jack Gayson has never once called to ask what is going on or how I was making out. Even after calling his business three times he has never reached out.
Jack Gayson's plumbing business practices are unacceptable, almost criminal, taking my money
i have been in the contracting business many years. i called jack gayson co because we had a leak under the sink. service was prompt, the techs were knowledgeable and performed the job in a workmanlike manner and were extremely helpful. the best part the price was reasonable. i can highly recommend them.
Have used Jack Gayson plumbing in the past with great results. So naturally, when a pipe started leaking in the basement I didn't hesitate to call them again. Jason was the mechanic who showed up. He was both friendly and extremely knowledgeable. He was here for just over two hours and he was able to repair the leak and slow drain in the kitchen sink.
I also asked him to take a look at the bathroom toilet on the first floor which was acting up. In no time at all, after replacing the parts in the tank, the toilet was running perfectly.
I have found this company to be outstanding in terms of price and responsiveness. I called yesterday and they were here today, right on time.
Rick W.I was a loyal customer with Gayson plumbing for fifteen years. When I recently encountered a gas link, an incredibly arrogant tech showed up, walked through for maybe twenty minutes, then sent an estimate for $2400. I called Gayson and asked for a breakdown of the anticipated charges and was told it was a ""package deal."" I reminded them I was a loyal customer with a Gold service contract with them for the gas heater they installed. They still refused to explain or justify the estimate. I reached to two other plumbers. One said, at the very worst, he could could completely replace ALL my piping for $2600. I ended up having the problem fixed, and fixed well, for $1200 with a different plumber. I have terminated my relationship with Gayson plumbing, and there are plenty of other reputable plumbers out there who don't overcharge, especially when a loyal customer encounters a serious issue.
I called Jack Gayson Plumbing & Heating Co., Inc. and I am thrilled I did, the young lady in the office Laurie was professional and knowledgeable on what I needed, to have my hot water heater replaced. I was more than happy with the mechanic Ryan and his helper J.K.. They were on time on a snowy day, clean, careful, courteous, and had my new water heater installed and old one removed without a hitch. They were true mechanics and I am so satisfied with there service I would recommend Jack Gayson Plumbing to anyone in need of true professionals and a terrific job. Glen Head, New York
Mark L.I used them twice for serious problems caused by remodeling contractors
They came and did a very good neat job both times. Both jobs also needed carpentry work, they managed that very well
Also used them twice for minor plumbing repairs, faucet in one case, downstairs washtub in another. Came on time, very satisfied
(As for whassup with North Hempstead building permit inspection, I have no idea, inspector should not have approved the work!!)
Edd J.I gotta say, I can't agree with the negative reviews on this business. I called on Gayson for two jobs at my home & I've been very satisfied with both. on this particular occasion, I utilized them to replace a gas safety valve after Nat Grid came in for a routine matter & shut me down leaving me with no gas to cook or for hot water until it was resolved.
Shocked & desperate to get my gas going again, I called 3 vendors, two of which either didn't get back to me or couldn't do the job right away.
Called Gayson, Jack himself picked up the phone and was very accommodating. After giving him nat grids diagnosis, he eased my mind by saying 'I know exactly what their saying' and was able to send someone that afternoon to assess the work that needed to be done.
Regarding the job itself, the gentleman they sent to do the work was nice, neat & efficient, getting the work done right away. The next time I have a plumbing or heating issue, Gayson will definitely be the first call.
