We hired J.R. Snider for whole home water treatment installation. They were very responsive over the phone and did a free water test and estimate. We also had one other water treatment company give an estimate, but their product cost much more and seemed brand focused rather than value for your money. When we went with J.R. they were able to book the appointment same week, but we picked a day the following week that worked better for us. Installation day, Joe was on time, courteous, and did great work.

Having used them years ago, I thought I'd give them a whirl again. Called them Wednesday about installing a toilet and bead was out yesterday to give me a quote. After speaking with him and clarifying a few things, we agreed on the work to be done (my wife added a couple things more). Today, JW was out promptly as scheduled. He took care of things in a professional manor, cleaned up after himself (a big deal for many contractors these days), and was gone before you knew it. Two criticisms though. 1) they charge you more when paying my credit/debit card - that drives me crazy! 2) they charge a $65 dispatch fee. Not sure what that fee represents, but if paying for a service, isn't that enough without making me pay for gas too? Just build it into the estimate for crying out loud.

Would I use them again?

***update** so i ran into a problem with the toilet not flushing correctly after their installation. So I called the office to let them know and they said that because we didn't buy the toilet from them there was no warranty on it only labor. Fine. The they wanted to charge me ANOTHER $65 to come by out. Uh - no! Finally spoke to the owner and he agreed to waive the fee. It still doesn't work right after coming back out because the guy that installed it can't freaking read. Won't use them again.

J.R. Snider bid to replace a sump pump and backup system, convert a tank water heater to a tankless heater, and to perform some drain work. All of my interactions with Snider's personnel were professional, friendly and helpful. The work they did was, with one small, minor, issue, top-notch. The work was done several years ago and everything has worked well since. We cut our propane usage by 70% after the installation of a high-efficiency, condensing tankless unit.

Also, after the work was completed, Snider insisted on having the Loudoun County Plumbing inspector sign off on the work. (At least one other contractor told me it wasn't required!!!!) The inspector had one minor quibble, which Snider addressed quickly and without complaint.

After such a glowing review, you may wonder why I gave only 4 stars. First, I never give a five star review unless the review performed far above what was expected. Secondly, Snider was about 10% pricier than some of the other bids. I would have loved to have had a cheap price and a top notch job, but, as they say, ""you can't have your cake and eat it too.""

I accepted JR Snider's bid in December 2014 to replace the tankless heater for my house. Although they ultimately installed a high quality, properly functioning water heater, I found the process of working with the company to be unsatisfactory in many respects:

1) Trying to pass off a sub-standard unit: Their initial proposal was for installation of a unit that got uniformly bad reviews. I had to insist that they instead use a unit that received good reviews. In the end they didn't even use exactly the model we had agreed upon (see item 2 below), but at least it was the same manufacturer and a similar model.

2) Terrible scheduling and communication: After I paid the required 25% deposit in late December, I waited two months until they were ready to start work. I had initially understood they would install a model that was immediately available - but they decided without telling me that they would install a different model that took two months to ship. When they finally started work in early March 2015, the job they told me would take two days actually took three - with no heat or hot water in my house all this while. And then they also surprised me with the news that I was required to wait at home on day 4 for an inspector.

3) No consideration for aesthetics: On day two of the installation, they informed me that they had to install two big ugly industrial exhaust pipes right next to my front door - so I had to scramble to hire a handyman, at considerable additional expense, to build a cover to obscure those pipes.

Over the weekend, I was fighting with a particularly bad and clogged kitchen sink. I tried everything including a plunger, Drano, a snake, and a shop vac, but none of it worked.

Today, I called JR Snider and had ""Derek"" at my door within a couple hours. An hour later, he cleared the clog and spent extra time reassembling my sink which I had taken apart and made sure that everything was in working order.

I was very pleased and I would recommend them for any job that you might need a plumber for. As a local realtor, I look forward to recommending them to all my clients as well.
