The roots of J. R. Lane Plumbing trace back to my father, W.R. Lane (Bob). He graduated as a civil engineer from NC State. Following his time in construction before, during, and after his service in the Korean War, he acquired extensive knowledge of the construction industry and became a general contractor. Eventually, he expanded his skills to become a plumbing contractor. During the 1970s and early 1980s, he thrived in residential remodeling and rental properties. He built apartment complexes for HUD throughout the state. During this era, his sons played significant roles in the business. Jim developed an interest in managing construction sites and was involved in installing utilities for various projects. This sparked Jim's passion for plumbing. Over the next decade, the Lane family participated in numerous projects, from the new terminal C restaurants to installing gas lines for Hewlett Packard's advanced laboratory equipment. In 1986, Jim obtained his plumbing license.
