The roots of J. R. Lane Plumbing trace back to my father, W.R. Lane (Bob). He was a civil engineer from NC State. Following his time in construction before, during, and after his service in the Korean War, he gained significant expertise in construction and became a general contractor. He later ventured into plumbing contracting. In the 70s and early 80s, he found success in residential remodeling and rental projects. He constructed apartment buildings for HUD across the state. Throughout this time, his sons were heavily involved in the operations. Jim developed an interest in managing construction sites and was involved in installing utilities for various projects. This led to Jim's growing interest in plumbing. Throughout the next decade, the Lane family contributed to many projects, from the new terminal C restaurants to gas line installations for Hewlett Packard's sophisticated laboratory equipment. In 1986, Jim obtained his plumbing license.
