Great group of hard working guys! They are awesome at excavations and anything to do with outside digs and piping!

Same as another reviewer, this John Mess outfit was hired by St. Louis County to repair a neighbor's sewer lateral. They ended up excavating a small area in MY yard near the street, which was ok, since I was told ahead of time this would need to be done to complete the repair. Was I'm not ok with was, after the repair, the area subsided during the first hard rain, and opened up into a large void under the street next to our property. I called the St. Louis County Sewer Lateral Repair number and told them what had happened, and the said they'd contact the contractor, John Mess Plumbling. Sometime early the next day they'd 'fixed' the problem, because there was more hay on the bare soil and the hole looked like it had been filled in. Looks like they'd simply showed up with more hay, and used dirt already on the area to cover the hole under the street, since now the whole area was 3-4 inches lower than the surrounding lawn and was so lightly packed down that my foot sank down 4-5 inches when I lightly stepped on it. I can take a broom handle and poke through the dirt and under the street into the open void there and wiggle it around freely, now I'm concerned the next hard rain is going to cause my whole side yard to start slipping into the hole, and my neighborhood already has sinkholes in it already. Guess I'll have to get my own contractor and a gat a lawyer to make St. Louis County and this John Mess bunch to really fix the problem. This really burns me since it wasn't my problem to begin with.

Awful experience with this company.

They won the county bid for our lateral line repair. They never called to schedule anything. We came home from work one day with a letter from the county saying they won the bid and would call... And to a lateral line repair that was done with no notice.

The repair seemed to be done properly and they didn't tear up our sidewalk, which was good. However, there was standing water next to the house afterwards. There were deep tracks through the yard from machinery and a few grains of grass seed down.

We called the company multiple times for weeks about the standing water- it never went away. We even called the county to see if they could stop payment, but it was too late.

Finally the lady at the county said she'd call and tell them we complained. My husband also called again, no friendly matter this time. Finally, about 6 weeks after the repair they showed up, 3 angry looking guys walking up to the house. Everything was cordial and they put down more dirt, grass seed and straw. Again leaving more ruts in the yard. At least the standing water was gone.

DO NOT hire this business! After they destroyed our yard in 4 attempts to fix a sewage line problem, we had Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) inspect their work. MSD found that 4 times over Jay Mess used ""illegal connections"" to cheat around doing the correct work. They are lying, cheating thieves! We couldn't be more pissed off with their service, the sink hole in our yard, and our destroyed property. #nightmareService

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They did not do the pipe correctly, it leaked. They did not fill in the hole correctly. They did not do the proper paperwork for the city. Overnight, they left an unprotected twelve foot hole in my front yard. Then they came back and filled it in so that I had a sink hole. They kept saying they would mark and fill in. However, the secretary kept lying saying each day they would be out and they did not come out. Most lying, inconsiderate, incompetent, company I have ever experienced. I now have a two foot deep hole in my yard and even the street is sinking in.
