Think twice before choosing JL Contractors Inc for your home improvement project. Our 2-3 week project turned into an unfinished 2 month project.

Project started May 24 after meeting to discuss what we wanted and putting down a deposit. Demo guys removed and threw out things without asking (including things we did not state we wanted removed/thrown out). Contractor requested pictures of bathroom inspirations to get an idea of the look we wanted. That resulted in him trying to copy that design instead of what we had discussed during initial meeting. This led to shower being poured for a design different to what we stated and more delays. For which we were blamed for because we ""changed the design"", which we did not. Other times contractor would make design decisions without consulting us, like the wall tile purchased or the direction it would be going in, which would lead to us having questions, concerns, or needing to redo because it was not what we wanted.

We were told work would be going on every day starting at 9am. Some days people showed up at 10am, later, or not at all with no communication from contractor to notify us so that we could plan our own office schedule. He has a handful (or less) of guys and takes on multiple projects at a time so your project is not his priority.

Getting a hold of the contractor when issues came up was extremely challenging. There is a call center that handles calls so you have to wait for him to call you, if he calls. Or you can text and hope he texts you back or calls. Some text messages he would claim he never received. Contractor would tell us he would come to home to discuss things or bring samples and would arrive 1-2 hours late.

After 1 1/2 months into the 2 week project, we thought we were close to the end when he said they had two days of work left. We had no time to spare as we had family coming to visit and needed the bathroom. Well, that was the last time we heard from him. We called multiple times, texted multiple times, left messages with answering service multiple times and heard nothing. He had more than 2/3 of the total money for the project and any materials purchased. We had an unfinished bathroom with nothing but tile and a vanity/cabinet (that was not what we had wanted) plus family needing to make last minute lodging arrangements because of the state of our house.

We found another contractor to come finish the job. Turns out the electricity was done incorrectly (there is a switch that does nothing and to fix it we would need to break through the wall again) and the plumbing appears to not work so we may need to break through the ceiling downstairs to fix it because tile is already laid out. Mind you this is plumbing that had to be re-done three times because of his poor communication with workers on the design. We had to re-order and pay for all of the materials that the contractor said he already had but we never received so that the new contractor could work on the project.

This has been a nightmare. We are now looking at all of our options on actions to take. Do not let this happen to you. They will say yes to everything and then not deliver.
