not surprising to see they already have a 2 star rating. I've used several times before and they've become terribly over priced. to install a toilet and a new shut valve- for a customer supplied toilet is $1k! then they broke the toilet installing it and had to buy a new one, and left the broken toilet in the apartment for tenant to deal with. oh but they'll try to sell you a maintenance plan for $30/mo and when confronted about their extortionist fees, you're told they have high overhead! Bad business model and bad service.

They offered a $49 hot water heater maintenance special. Their representative came out, said the handle was broken so he could not flush the hot water. So nothing got inspected. A complete waste of time. The handle was not broken, just an excuse to not do anything.

The estimate they gave for some work was double others estimated. Untrustworthy.

3x the price of others. Was denied an itemized receipt. I should have checked yelp instead of google.

Fool me once shame on me, fool me several times, then I am the fool!

I have lived in a high rise in a Chicago (Edgewater) building for over 7 years.
I found J. Blanton Plumbing from the recommendation of our condos management.
We have used them for most all of our plumbing services.
Each time we have used them, the job was incomplete or done incorrectly.
We had a service preformed to make our plumbing more accessible for us to use. (The building is over 50 years old).
The first Blanton technician said the plumbing under our sink is all wrong. So we asked him to correct it for us. He created an octopus for plumbing that he said would make our water shut off much easier. I can not exactly remember what he needed to complete the job, he said he would be back to correct the missing component. (The plumbing did work without the item he was going to bring back).
I called them back in about a week, and they said they would send him back out.
They sent a different technician, he looked at our problem and stated the whoever did this plumbing did it all wrong. Naturally, I responded the company you work for did it.
I put in an electric Hot Water on Demand.
It wasn't working properly. They sent out yet a different technician and he spent several hours just to let us know that we need a new circuit board. The circuit board would take about 2 month's to get from Germany. I decided to purchase another on demand water heater so I would not be without hot water for the next many weeks. Blanton also installed it. It was a very short time before it stopped working properly.
i called them back again to check it out. He said the one of the electric heating components was not working.
I have never yet replaced it, but with careful adjusting of the sink and shower control's we do get hot water.
I decided that we would never use them again. But I did.
I received a call from Blanton that our water heater needed to be serviced which included flushing it out.
A technician came out and also criticized the the way the plumbing was laid out. It also took a several hours to have it serviced.
I wasn't completely happy with that visit either, and like all the other services calls, the cost was much higher than what i was told.
I once again said that I would never use them again.
But guess what? They have been contacting me for another annual service on my water heater. (I understand that a Hot Water on demand should be serviced annually). Due to my busy schedule, I gave in on one of their recent calls and scheduled an appointment for service.
I had an appointment set for last week, they called the night before and said that they needed to reschedule. They had an opening for today Monday May/13, 2024.
I received a call this morning that they will not be able to keep the appointment today and wanted me to reschedule.
I refused, I told they that I took off last week and today for service.
I told them that I have said that I would not use their services any longer.
Very unreliable, each technician criticized Blanyton's other technicians work,
and very overpriced.

My experience with J Blanton Plumbing was a nightmare from start to finish. They sent two different technicians on two occasions who disagreed on the issue at hand, with one even pushing a $5500+ whole home water filtration system despite my call being for a minor bathtub problem. The same technician even tried to use to scare tactics about Legionnaires' disease to coax me into replacing pipes in my recently renovated bathroom which wasn't even close to necessary. I reluctantly agreed to a tub spout replacement, which ended up being overpriced but I was persuaded that this would solve my problem. The plumbers ended up incorrectly installing an entirely different part of my shower and left my shower unusable until I fixed it myself. When confronted, the plumbers were confused and simply said ""mistakes happen"". J Blanton management was equally ""confused"" and unhelpful during several phone calls trying to find a resolution. Their prices are extremely high, well over 2X what any reputable plumber would charge. It's terrible to see such a high markup for awful service and execution. I urge everyone to steer clear of J Blanton Plumbing. Not only will you be subjected to astronomical prices, but you'll also receive shoddy workmanship and a complete lack of accountability.

I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt despite their very low Yelp score but they matched that score. They came in, took almost no time to review the issue and quoted me for a very expensive service that would have required significant damage/repair to walls. The next day a different plumber came and reviewed the issue and was able to fix it without the extra damage and for about half the cost. Two stars because I'm glad they offer a $0 'appraisal' for their work but would not recommend at all.

Just a word of warning. I waited all through my arrival window for my estimate appointment yesterday and was then told the technician would not be able to come for an additional 2 hours. I waited again for two hours. At the end of the second window, I was told they would not even make it out that day AT ALL. I was promised that I would be the first person on the schedule the today and the techs would arrive between 8:30-9:00am. At 9:20am no show still. I call and they said my technicians were ""sent off on an emergency"" and I would be next. No one called to tell me this, I had to find out myself. I said forget it. I don't want to work with a company that has such little regard for people's time.

Terrible customer service. They came to my place 4 separate times to do a 2 hour job. The manager Kyle is extremely disrespectful and unapologetic about the mistakes and miscommunication that occurred. Stay far away from here!

Jacob from came out as they said they would to view what needed repairing. He told me I would receive an estimate in a day or two. A week later I called j Blanton because I received no call or email regarding the visit. The person I spoke to was surprise I'd heard nothing and said they would have jacob call me back immediately. No call. No email. Although I did receive a bill from them for coming out to view the work.

Another week passes and I call a second time and this time Ray apologizes and assures me some one would call me back immediately and he would escalate the matter because this was them losing out on possible income. Again, no call, no email.

Things happen and I gave them the benefit of the doubt twice, but his is just plain horrible customer service. Even worse follow through. As a business owner, if I treated customers like this, I wiould be called to task immediately, as I should be.

Don't let their marketing and fancy trucks fool you. Stay away

I had a broken city sewer line. I was told they would do all the work to get this fixed as soon possible. I was the one who had to contact the city to insure the issue was fixed in a timely manner. I was not contacted when service appointments where made. My contact info was not updated after multiple requests. After canceling an appointment due to a funeral via the text message which indicated I could reply to. They showed up anyway. When I told the technician they where not to be on the property because I was not home. They still went ahead and worked on the property. They did not fill the hole correctly and laid cement when it was too cold to do so. The hole was caved in and cement cracked by the next morning. When they where done the technician then called me to demand payment after being told he was not to work on the property. He was told
To just finish the job regardless by his management. When setting up appointment to correct the issue, and having to cancel due to rain and freezing temperatures I was given a hard time and they tired to tell me I could not reschedule the appointment for work on my property. On the day of the appointment it was once again raining they went ahead and laid concrete. Due to the rain the top layer washed off which means it's going to eventually collapse again. And I will have to fix the patch.

I would never use this company again. It was a pain, and they have horrible customer service.

Edit: I forgot to add they showed multiple unprepared for the appointment. Lacking the correct equipment. Or not knowing what was to be done on that day.
