Alex and Jay from Ixtapa Construction are magicians. They took our idea for changing out our primary bathroom, suggested enhancements, and made it reality. In fact, we ended up having two bathrooms remodeled by Ixtapa during the pandemic. They possess a wealth of knowledge about the construction/remodeling business and took time to review options, whether for room layout, glass shower doors, sink cabinets, tile installation or shower drains. In the primary bathroom, they removed a wall and relocated the toilet, the shower and the tub, which entailed relocating plumbing works and electrical wiring, moving hvac duct work, and installing hardy backer panels and drywall. For good measure, they replaced some of our old windows and added a few new ones, put in heating for the tiled floors, and installed a pocket door in the new bathroom entrance.
The second bathroom was easier as it 'only' required fixture updates, new flooring and tilework. Their workmanship remained high quality throughout both projects, and was particularly evident in the complex tile worked they performed in both bathrooms. Their staff are highly skilled workers and a pleasure to work with.

This is an open letter to Alex at Ixtapa Construction. Once again, I want to say thank you for your phone time that you extended to me and my home project questions even when we realized that I was out of your company's service area. ""Listen up, everyone""...Alex even checked back in with me the following day to ensure that I would be on the right track with my bathroom remodel. Wow, such great customer service from this company, above and beyond. The customer service and concern shown by Alex and his company, Ixtapa Construction, is something rare and special. Thanks again. Consider yourself lucky if you are living in 'Ixtapa Construction"" service area and considering doing some home projects.

My experience was great with this contractor. My bathroom turned out like my vision. Easy to work with and all their people did excellent work.

We were very happy with the project Ixtapa Construction completed at our home. After interviewing and getting quotes from several general contractors, they provided a comprehensive detailed quote for the work at a fair price. What sealed the deal for us in selecting them was meeting Jay and Alex, the principals of the company, and the input they provided for our project. They provided many great ideas we had not considered and we are very happy with the results.
They were meticulous and all the workers on our project were professional and courteous. The scope of work included essentially a full interior remodel including converting a den into a bedroom and also painting/some repairs of the exterior. There were no surprises in regards to costs at the end of the project and costs associated with changes as work progressed were clearly communicated to us.
We will definitely contact Ixtapa Construction for any future projects!

Our downstairs bathroom started to get mold on the ceiling. To make a long story short, the upstairs bathroom shower pan was leaking.
After the mold remediation team had finished and seemed to narrow down the problem to either a drain issue or shower pan issue for the upstairs bathroom, my wife and I contacted approximately 10 general contractors and shower installation companies using various sources (including Yelp, Google Reviews, word of mouth recommendations, internet searches, etc) to provide their recommendations/proposals for our shower and bathroom.
During the processing of obtaining contractor quotes, we were not comfortable with most of the contractors for various reasons including high sales pitch tactics, lack of detailed explanation relating to waterproofing techniques that will be used during construction, extremely high prices, etc. We eventually narrowed down the list of contractors to two (including Ixtapa). However, after further comparison of both companies, we ended up choosing Ixtapa partially due to their quote being more inclusive of everything we wanted done (drywall repair, painting, among other items), their flexibility in recommendations that considered our budget, and most importantly, Ixtapa's clear explanation of their waterproofing techniques in which the utmost care would be taken during their multilayered waterproofing method to minimize any chances of the new tile shower leaking in the future. Other companies were vague in mentioning only ""hot mopping"" as an explanation. We just felt Ixtapa was the ""complete package"" when considering fair price, knowledge, customer reviews showing high quality craftsmanship, communication, etc. Alex was a very good communicator and listener when we shared our concerns/ideas. Alex was excellent at balancing our concerns/ideas with his expert advice/recommendations (this skill set Ixtapa apart from the rest of the other construction companies we talked to).
Jay, Alex's business partner, is the construction ""guru"". Jay is very personable and has high expectations of quality that meet not only his high expectations, but also the customer's. Although Ixtapa has some workers in addition to Jay, Jay does the detailed design, measurements, and most of the detailed construction.
I liked how Alex made clear what materials Ixtapa provides (rough materials, etc) and explains in detail what materials the customer provides (tile, fixtures, etc). Alex even provided us a shopping list of items to purchase, quantities of each item, etc. This made it easier for us. When it came to choosing a new vanity, Alex recommended a few places for us to look at vanity options. We settled on a place and we were able to purchase the vanity with Ixtapa's contractor's discount to save some money. When I was stressed about some issues with vanity options while my wife was out of town on business, Alex took time out of his busy schedule to meet me at the store to help me through my struggles. With the assistance of my wife by phone, and Alex's help, we were able to make a decision that worked out very well (thank you Alex!).
Ixtapa showed flexibility when we requested changes to the scope of work related to the niche, additional recessed lights, installing the additional exhaust fans in our other bathrooms, among some other changes. Ixtapa was able to provide a custom glass shower per our requested specifications of ""partially obscured"" (middle 50% obscured, the top 25% and bottom 25% clear glass).
Jay and his crew did excellent work. As other reviewers have stated, Jay is a master craftsman. Jay and his Ixtapa crew handled everything from the demo, plumbing (installation of new shower drain with weep holes, etc), electrical (exhaust fan, led lights, gfci, etc), shower framing, multilayered waterproofing of shower, tile installation/grouting (shower, bathroom floor), installation of vanity & recessed medicine cabinet/mirror, installation of fixtures, drywall/trim/texture/paint, etc. The only items/services subcontracted out by Ixtapa to different companies were the ""hot mopping"" of shower pan and the manufacturing/installation of the custom glass shower door.
A couple of small/minor issues after completion of the bathroom project were taken care of by Ixtapa. The end result is fabulous!
We very much look forward to working with Ixtapa in the future with another project or potentially more than one project.
Thank you Alex and Jay!!!

The inside of my house was in desperate need of a complete makeover so I did some searching and met with a few contractors. The first contractors I met didn't give me much confidence in their work so I was glad when I found Ixtapa Construction!
After meeting with Jay (the owner) and his business partner Alex, I found both to be very professional, experienced, knowledgeable and personable. I was impressed with the samples of their work and their suggestions. Also, Jay has high standards for customer satisfaction (even after job completion) and that was important to me. And, although their bid wasn't the lowest, I was willing to pay a little extra for the level of work they do.
After hiring Ixtapa Construction, Jay and his team started with the master bathroom remodel followed by the kitchen remodel, flooring, baseboards, walls, doors and ceiling work. All work was done expeditiously but with attention to quality and detail. Also, I want to mention that Alex was very helpful and attentive to all my questions and all aspects of the project! I will be using Ixtapa Construction for any future jobs and I highly recommend them!!

Jay is a real gem! Ixtapa team remodeled our kitchen then our attic and did electrical work too (incredibly fast). Jay was very attentive, always gave us precious tips. Everything was done in a timely manner and the work was perfectly executed. We cannot be more happy. Each time he found a way to fit our budget. They are very competitive and you can really trust them! We are planning on converting our garage into ADU next year and there is no hesitation it will be with them.

Ixtapa Construction did our kitchen remodel, and not only was the work completed with craftsmanship but we were treated with caring and a truly professional touch.
Jay and Alex were great people to work with. They answered my (and husband's) many questions and were very patient and helpful. Both were very knowledgeable and communicated with us throughout the project.
We were also very pleased with the job itself. Ixtapa Construction did a great job while respecting the timeline and budget. Jay also kindly helped to fix some problems left by the previous contractors. The crew also did a great job cleaning up after everything was completed. Highly recommend!

The quick and fast, Ixtapa Construction is the best general contracting company I've had the pleasure to work with (I've worked with 3-4 over the last decade). I completely gutted a 4 bedroom, 2..5 bath, 2100 sq. ft. home we just purchased and Jay did it while handling timing pressure from my then 7-month-pregnant wife who was hesitant to even make the purchase, knowing the work it needed.
As the founder/President, Jay is a consummate professional (a rarity in this business), and a true craftsman. His Partner, Alex is also great to work with and keeps things organized and coordinated with all the moving pieces of a construction project. Most important to me is that Jay and his team takes pride and ownership in their work. Jay treated our construction project as if it was his own home. He takes the time to make sure things are done right, the first time. Moving forward, I'll always reach out to Jay first about my remodeling and home improvement needs before going out and interviewing/reviewing other contractors. Through my remodel, I'm fortunate enough to connect with someone who I've gotten to know and trust as my advisor for home remodeling and repair-related needs.
The longer version: We closed on our home in January of this year (2019). We knew we were going to completely gut and remodel the home. We didn't change the exterior (no additions) but all things interior of the home were to be redone. From all new water pipes to new electrical, new HVAC system, new 2.5 bathrooms and a new kitchen from the ground up including new flooring throughout.
This is our 2nd remodel of homes we are to live in, so it wasn't a completely new venture for us. The first remodel, I worked directly with a few tradesmen and oversaw/project managed the job myself. But this time around, with a newborn on the way and a 3 year old, I didn't have the time so we had to find a good GC that was fair, reasonable and accountable to work with. In total, we met about a dozen General Contractors (local via Yelp, Craigslist, HomeAdvisors, Houzz, you name it).
I first spoke with Alex by phone and then met with Jay at the house. Needless to say, he was on-time and professional. When we were ready to make a decision, we narrowed it down to Ixtapa and another construction company. I regretfully admit, we went with the other company first. The reason was that the initial bid was missing a few elements. I wish I had just went back and asked him to revise before making a decision. Truthfully, in my conversations with Jay, I had a good feeling. But we all make mistakes... The other company turned out to be a massive disaster (if you want more info, please reach out to me).
My initial timeline was the beginning of March for the home to be move-in ready. We started work on January 6th. By February 6th the house was all gutted, but nothing was being put back together. We started to get concerned as we were about 22 days out from when the house needed to be move-in ready. I got the typical contractor runaround and because I needed to be swift, I terminated the agreement. I had very low tolerance for a bad situation to get worse.
But since our initial meeting last December (2018) Jay stayed in touch with me and he actually followed with me to see how things were going.
I reached back out to Jay (at this point, under immense timing pressure) to see if he can help. He was able to get me on the calendar and get started in a week.
Ever since then, the house came together. And while I made changes to things and added things, he was very accommodating and did what he could to help us out.
Again, incredibly grateful to have met Jay and work with Ixtapa Construction. No job is too small for them, he's an honest craftsman that has a construction-framing background (so he can build a house from scratch if needed!) If he can't do something, he'll tell you. But overall, I'm incredibly happy with his service, professionalism and is the type of person you feel comfortable having around your family (which is also very important). And his team of craftsmen are great to work with too.
His pricing is fair, but through my own experience, you get what you pay for in this industry. Often times, you get low bids so they can come in and start the work, only to not finish or worse, cause damages. Talk to Alex/Jay, they'll work with you.
I will update this review with photos shortly.

These guys are very professional and do a fabulous job. When I was in sure of the direction I wanted to go they were very helpful with listening and making suggestions. Great guys I would highly recommend them!
