Owner Andrew Dobbins of Intelligent Design Air Conditioning and Heating, transitioned out of the Marine Corps in 2002 and shortly thereafter entered the heating and cooling industry. Almost immediately excelled in cost estimation and system design while working for one of Tucson's largest companies. In that role, Andrew focused on residential marketing, product expertise, and the design aspects of a heating and cooling business.
After four years, Andrew sought to enhance his education and experience. He studied heat load engineering, logistics, duct design, and the inner workings of the new construction custom home market, as well as how a large service company manages logistics to maintain quality and customer satisfaction.

Recently, I had my AC serviced with Intelligent. The guys who came out were not only professional but also very knowledgeable about my unit. They didn't try to sell me up on something which didn't need to be done, and were honest about the issues which did need to be addressed. They even followed up with me and left good contact information should I need anything else even if it was just a question on the work which was done. These guys were great and I highly recommend them to anyone looking at getting AC work done. They offer good warranties and seem to be willing r work with people on anything. I was impressed and grateful for the work they did. Thank you Intelligent!

After my last experience, they did show up to complete the maintenance on my air conditioning units. They were in need of some repair, so they discounted the repairs to make up for the times that they did not show up previously. This week one the a/c units was only blowing hot air, so I called them to come out to fix the problem. I made an appointment between 8 to 11am yesterday. To my surprised once again no one showed up. I called the office and talked to the president of the company. He promised me that someone would be there at 8am today and there would be no charge for the repairs. He kept his word as the technician was at the house at 8am and he repaired the unit at no charge. They have redeemed themselves.

ID will do whatever it takes to make a customer happy-- something lost on most businesses these days. I was very happy with their service.

Hey fellow desert dwellers, let's face it. It's getting hot and it's only going to get hotter. Time to clean those filters and rev up those ACs!!!
We moved into our house about 3 years ago and were lucky enough to score a big, beautiful house that came with all the upgrades but...we have no idea what to do with them. Pool pumps, water softeners, weird, fancy looking heating and cooling machines, etc. Decided to have Intelligent Design come out to check out the AC, not even realizing they do heating, plumbing, and water softeners.
They did the much appreciated call to confirm appointment and the super appreciated ""15 minutes ETA"" call as well. Kevin showed up all smiles and gentlemanly politeness. My husband could not be home, so I felt bad that poor Kevin had to deal with my glazed-over huh expression for most of his visit. Good guy that he is, made sure to give me thorough explanations of every step and measurement. Overall assessment was that we were all good except for a concern about our unit not having an auxiliary or overflow pan. He recommended one, but when my husband came home he did say that there is proper drainage (primary and backup) already installed and said it would have been visible to Kevin had he climbed all the way into the crawl space when he inspected the area. Not a big deal in the overall scheme of things.
I did not feel pressured to sign up for any contracts or upgrades. I felt that Kevin gave his most honest assessment and opinions (25 years of experience is pretty reliable in my opinion). I will definitely be calling to have my water softener checked out next time.
Now if only I could get them to check out my pool stuff...

This is the worst A/C company that i have talked with.
Very pushy. kept pushing very expensive A/C units.
Demanded an order on the spot.
I would never do business with this company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got a quote to replace my a/c and will update after the install. But do far it's been first class and they are different and really set themselves apart from their competition. They took the time to learn about me and my situation first, take measurements, inspect home and system before making recommendations. And after they were a good counselor to pick the right system. Like everything else ac has improved in technology but has in complexity too so almost saw them as more of a consultant then sales. I know Jon too and he is a smart, hard working, all around good guy.

I requested they come out to inspect my AC unit and fix a drip coming from the unit's back-up drain. The problem was misdiagnosed but conveniently not happening when he ""resolved the problem"" and left for the day. The guy was friendly so I bought a 1-year service agreement (lesson learned...). I went on vacation and came back to the same problem.
I called again to report the problem was still happening. They came out and re-diagnosed the problem. He needed to order a part to fix it and said he'd get back to me on the cost. Two days go by and no call-back. I call and asked to get follow-up on that part. Nobody calls me back. I call again the next day and ask about the part. Nobody follows up. I call again the next day and finally the guy calls me back with a price. I schedule service again for first house call of the day.
I get a call AN HOUR AND A HALF AFTER appointment time notifying me he had to service an emergency call and he wouldn't be there until 1 pm. I get another call AN HOUR AFTER the rescheduled time saying he wouldn't be there until 3:30 pm (for a 4-hour job). I asked to reschedule.
I schedule service again for first call of the day. I get a confirmation call with assurances they will be there. The repairman calls me the next morning to tell me their parts vendor didn't have the part but would likely have it the next day and take 10% off my total bill. I didn't bother rescheduling.
I call the office and asked to speak to a manager. The guy calls me back, barely accepts any blame for their mistakes and gripes about their vendor making them look bad. He wouldn't make any assurances for a timeline on service.
I'm usually forgiving because we all have bad days. I feel it necessary to point out that not once did anybody apologize for the bad service until AFTER the last failed house-call. This company is unresponsive and completely incompetent. They don't take proper ownership of their mistakes. They did very little to reassure me and rebuild trust after their MULTIPLE mistakes. It also boggles my mind that they would even schedule service without having the parts in hand, let alone confirming the part was ready. Even looking at it from their perspective, this is a retarded way to do business since they wasted an appointment time.
Don't bother with them unless you can afford to have plenty of your own time wasted. If you can afford the wasted time, don't get suckered into a service agreement until they have demonstrated they can consistently deliver. I assure you, they won't.

Called three times to get estimate for new system install and got blown-off every time, (not by office personnel) no return calls, no explanation. I'm on this site looking for a more reliable HVAC vendor. So much for Rosie's list!

My experience was they did an OK job but nothing to rave about. They were certainly much better than the horrible experience I had last year with the arrogant and super-expensive Aranda Air [which led me to file a BBB complaint against Aranda Air]. I had angies list service deal that cost sixty dollars. Mike checked out the ac unit on the roof and topped off the freon. but he did not check the equipment inside the house other than the thermostat control, which is a very basic unit and has nothing wrong with it

I had Jason come out t drain my water heater. He didn't check the rod in the heater. I asked him to check it. It needed to b replaced. This sh have b a normal thing to do. If I hadn't mentioned it he wouldn't have done it. After he left we had no hot water in the kitchen or bathroom. Someone was sent to check. Jason had forgotten to open a valve to allow water to flow to the kitchen and bathroom.
I don't think this company is as good as it used to be.
