Tim and Karen Keefe founded Gil Plumbing in 1989 when their son Elliott was just a baby. Elliott, Tim, and Karen worked side by side until 2015, when Tim and Karen began to semi-retire. Elliott became the owner of Gil Plumbing in early 2015, and with the help of Tim and Karen, he established Illinois Plumbing & Mechanical Company in November 2015. Elliott welcomed his wife Amanda to the business in November 2018, and they now work together to provide outstanding plumbing and customer service to Grayslake and its surroundings.

As a fourth-generation plumber, Elliott grew up surrounded by family members in the plumbing industry, including his father, grandfather, and two uncles.
