Company Overview

Founded in 1926, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) serves as a nonprofit entity mainly for inspectors, concentrating on its broad capabilities in the technical domains of plumbing and mechanical industries via a comprehensive knowledge base that includes regulators, professional contractors, labor force, and manufacturers.

We develop and publish the Uniform Plumbing Code®, the most acknowledged code of practice in the plumbing industry worldwide; Uniform Mechanical Code®; Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code®; and Uniform Solar Energy & Hydronics Code® -- the only plumbing, mechanical, solar energy, and swimming pool codes recognized by ANSI as American National Standards.

The IAPMO Group offers real one-source convenience for all plumbing, mechanical, solar thermal energy, swimming pool, and hydronic codes and standards testing and product compliance.

We began when plumbing inspectors saw the need for a standardized set of criteria for plumbing systems; this demand resulted in the development of the Uniform Codes. Our third-party product testing and certification is executed by devoted professionals in their fields. These services have safeguarded public health and safety for over 90 years by collaborating with government and industry to establish comprehensive plumbing and mechanical systems globally.

IAPMO takes the lead in tackling the global requirement for sound water efficiency-based codes and standards while aiming to avert unintended consequences that could compromise health and safety. IAPMO supports research based on scientific principles and policy initiatives across all levels of government, with the objective of facilitating the safe use of water in structures around the globe.

Russ Chaney became the Chief Executive Officer of The IAPMO Group in 1995 and has advanced IAPMO's mission for public health, safety, and environmental stewardship through the promotion of the Uniform Plumbing, Mechanical, Solar Energy, and Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Codes. Since 2002, Russ has served several terms on the World Plumbing Council Executive Board, including the distinguished position of Chairman from 2011 to 2013.
