Company Overview

Founded in 1926, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) serves as a nonprofit entity mainly for inspectors, concentrating on its broad capabilities in the technical domains of plumbing and mechanical industries via a comprehensive knowledge base that includes regulators, professional contractors, labor force, and manufacturers.

We develop and publish the Uniform Plumbing Code®, the most acknowledged code of practice in the plumbing industry worldwide; Uniform Mechanical Code®; Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code®; and Uniform Solar Energy & Hydronics Code® -- the only plumbing, mechanical, solar energy, and swimming pool codes recognized by ANSI as American National Standards.

The IAPMO Group provides genuine one-stop convenience for all plumbing, mechanical, solar thermal energy, swimming pool, and hydronic codes and standards testing and product compliance.

Our journey began when plumbing inspectors recognized the absence of a uniform set of standards for plumbing systems; from this necessity arose the Uniform Codes. Our third-party product testing and certification is carried out by dedicated specialists in their areas of expertise. These services have ensured public health and safety for over 90 years by partnering with government and industry to create robust plumbing and mechanical systems around the globe.

IAPMO provides guidance in addressing the global need for effective water efficiency-based codes and standards while working to mitigate unintended effects that may threaten health and safety. IAPMO backs science-based research and policy initiatives at every level of government, with the goal of ensuring the safe utilization of water in buildings worldwide.

Russ Chaney took on the role of Chief Executive Officer at The IAPMO Group in 1995 and has dedicated his efforts to furthering IAPMO's mission for public health, safety, and environmental care through the establishment of the Uniform Plumbing, Mechanical, Solar Energy, and Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Codes. Since 2002, Russ has held multiple terms on the World Plumbing Council Executive Board, including the prestigious role of Chairman from 2011 to 2013.
