Company Overview

Since its inception in 1926, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) has functioned as a nonprofit association primarily for inspectors, honing its extensive skills in the technical areas of plumbing and mechanical fields through a rich knowledge base that features regulators, professional contractors, labor force, and manufacturers.

We create and distribute the Uniform Plumbing Code®, recognized globally as the leading code of practice utilized by the plumbing sector; Uniform Mechanical Code®; Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code®; and Uniform Solar Energy & Hydronics Code® -- the sole plumbing, mechanical, solar energy, and swimming pool codes acknowledged by ANSI as American National Standards.

The IAPMO Group offers real one-source convenience for all plumbing, mechanical, solar thermal energy, swimming pool, and hydronic codes and standards testing and product compliance.

Our journey began when plumbing inspectors recognized the absence of a uniform set of standards for plumbing systems; from this necessity arose the Uniform Codes. Our third-party product testing and certification is performed by committed experts in their respective fields. These services have protected public health and safety for more than 90 years by working alongside government and industry to implement thorough plumbing and mechanical systems worldwide.

IAPMO leads efforts to meet the worldwide demand for effective water efficiency-based codes and standards while striving to prevent unintended outcomes that could jeopardize health and safety. IAPMO endorses science-driven research and policy initiatives at all government levels, aiming to ensure the safe use of water in buildings worldwide.

Russ Chaney became the Chief Executive Officer of The IAPMO Group in 1995 and has advanced IAPMO's mission for public health, safety, and environmental stewardship through the promotion of the Uniform Plumbing, Mechanical, Solar Energy, and Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Codes. Since 2002, Russ has participated in multiple terms on the World Plumbing Council Executive Board, including the esteemed role of Chairman from 2011 to 2013.
