Simple job - asked him to install a water fountain. $4500 total. We paid half up front as a deposit. He has dicked us around for weeks - now he is no longer returning our calls or texts. He took $2200 and we have no water fountain.
Will be taking him to court.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Signed on a contract on 6/20/18 to install a water fountain at our business. Originally said the parts should arrive within 1-2 weeks and would install as soon as they were delivered.
Delivery was delayed because Bob cancelled the order despite having cashed a check from us for 1/2 the total amount. 3 weeks later, still no installation, and now it's been over a month and he's no longer responding to our texts.
Whatever you do, don't pay a deposit with a check or cash. Will have to pursue in court.
Short version: received 50% downpayment, never showed up for work. Whatever you do, do not give this guy any money before he FINISHES the work.
Long version: I contacted Bob in early June about a kitchen remodeling project scheduled for mid-July. He was not able to make the original appointment but texted to let me know that he had been ""called out to an emergency"". Since he let me know promptly I didn't consider this a bad sign.
When he made it to my place he gave me a quote that sounded fair. I was still skeptical to hire someone without any reviews, so I asked for certification, insurance, etc. He provided all documents in a timely manner. He then asked for 50% down payment to lock in the date. I thought that was suspicious but I needed to have a locked date to make sure the project would remain on time (and he seemed so professional!) so I agreed.
A month later on the week of the project I called Bob asking him to come over to check on the progress of the work to make sure his part would run smoothly. He said he'd stop by at a certain time and I never heard from him. I called again and he said ""he'd been called out to an emergency"" and he'd stop by later in the day. He didn't. After that my calls started going to voicemail and texts went unanswered. The day before the scheduled date I sent another email asking if he was was going to show up. He responded 'yes' but did not show up. After waiting for him for a couple of hours I texted and he said his truck broke down and that he would let me know later in the day. Later in the day he said he'd come the next day (Saturday). The following day he asked to come on Monday. At that point I found another plumber to do the work.
Bob never returned my downpayment and the case now is open on Paypal.
