Over the past 10 years, I've used Houghton plumbing for all of the normal household things - hot water heater, garbage disposal, slow/leaky faucets, gas stove, clogged drains, new toilets, and dishwasher. All I can say is they've always been on time, courteous, efficient, and reasonable - and never a spot of mess left behind. I don't usually write reviews - but some of the ones here are clearly outdated - and don't reflect any of my own experiences.

I wish that I would have read the reviews prior to hiring them, they quote 1 price then charge something completely and then when you have a question NO ONE is available to answer. I have tried to contact anyone in the office that can answer a question, I have left my name and number and no one has responded. I feel as though they get in, do whatever they want and charge whatever and we have no recourse...JUST PAY!!!

These guys do a tremendous job, had an emergency sewage problem with a waste pump, they were there in short order, and repaired the problem. They even showed up with all the nescessary stock so they didnt have to show up, then leave and come back again.

Upon moving into an apartment, the faucet broke on us on our first night there. Water everywhere! Emergency plumbers came out that night and shut off the water to the entire bathroom. The building management company uses Houghton so they were asked to assist in fixing the problem. A week later they came out to assess the problem and disappeared for two weeks with no feedback on status of ordered parts etc. Management company was asked to follow up on them and only then did they come out, later than scheduled but okay. Took them the whole day to work on the problem and before they left I tested all the faucets: suddenly one of them doesn't work. They look at me and tell me like my 4 year old does :""wasn't me"". They could not attend to it the same day and literally ran out of my building just in case I insisted on it. Another call and another, appointment is scheduled only for them to reschedule me 3 times! When I complain they tell me there won't be any hard feelings if I take my business elsewhere. Worst service I have ever experienced!

I called and spoke with Dave Houghton. We made an appointment for him to come to my condo and I took the day off from work to meet him. The morning of the appoitnment he cancelled at the last minute with no explanation. I would NOT recommend him based on this unprofessional behavior.

i for one, have had a yayy experience with 'houghton plumbing and heating'

i have been without heat since last saturday and after a false start and stop with another contractor, houghton was a reccomendation from the condo association here.
i spoke to jason initially and he sent john out to do the work.
i have heat again!!!
he investigated-he fixed-he explained!
we will have them back to replace valves to avoid further issues!
now? we are just awaiting the bill.
aside from that? it is a win/win! : )

I am a superintendent for a small condo in Boston and recently used Houghton Plumbing for some mixing valve issues and troubleshooting and repairing a low water volume problem occurring in some of the units. I used them because my property management company uses them and the previous plumber involved just wasn't responsive. They took my request, took some information and provided a quote within 2 days. We approved the quote, very reasonable. I have communicated with the owner, the receptionist/scheduler (Robin) and the Plumber (John) and couldn't be happier. They're professional, helpful, knowledgeable and reasonable in price. I wrote this because I had to call them back for some additional work and went to google for their number. I saw there was a Yelp review and read three negative reviews, I just wanted to make sure whoever goes to Yelp hears another story.

I have used Houghton before so I felt confident in them. I called Monday morning to see if they could fit me in for a clogged tub drain and the gentleman said no problem expect a tech between 1-4pm. I waited all afternoon no tech no phone call! Needless to say I will not call them again. I had to call RotoRooter and then were here in 30 minutes.

Had a problem with shower not turning off. Called Houghton - worker came out and did not have the proper tools for the job. He had to call someone else for help - waited over an hour for 2nd guy to show up. Between the 2 of them, they still couldn't figure out the problem. They had to come back a second day and ended up having to replace the shut off. They turned off the water supply to the entire condo building with no notice, so that I received a warning from the association. Then they billed me such an outrageous amount for their incompetance and would not allow me to make any payment arrangements!!! They are awful and you should never use them!

I have to agree with J.K., do NOT do business with Dave and Houghton Plumbing. They ruined my pipes in my basement and also ruined tile work while working on my sink UNNECESSARILY!! AND, they are a true rip off indeed. DO NOT USE THEM!!
