Easy email communication with the office manager, Odette.
She has always been pleasant and clear in her messages.
Scheduling was prompt, and the plumber arrived well within the expected time.
Other than the first appointment of the day (for which Horvitz plumbers have always been punctual), I know that they cannot precisely schedule, due to not knowing how long the earlier repairs will take.
Justin the plumber was great - efficient, courteous, and careful.
Absolutely satisfied!
Holly V.They couldn't help me, a DAP senior unless I ran all around a 4 story townhouse shooting photos of the work needed in to be done. I can barely walk and said that I can't manage such a big request. They advised I call back when I had photos to send them b4 they'd make the appt. It was going to be a big job for them, based upon a referral to them but they made no exceptions for those of us unable to photograph and submit the work to be done. I fell on the stairs trying to accommodate their request. So, I never got Plumbing help.
David S.I have used Horvitz in the past without problem however this time I was rather disappointed. I needed to get a large plumbing job done and asked them to come over and give me an estimate. In the past, they have come over and given me an estimate but this time they said they would only do it of I paid them $125, their price for an hours work. What a joke! Perhaps it is due to their changing management. But I must say for a returning customer, not good. I will now take my business elsewhere. Also the owner was rather rude and arrogant to me on the phone. Bad business.
The task was to remove an old radiator and to install a new one.
The guys were friendly and explained the steps that would need to be done.
The craftsmanship however was poor. They dropped the heating pipe inside the wall which required cutting open the ceiling in the hallway below to retrieve it (that hole is still there). They missed the stud in the wall (despite the fact that the supervisor had marked where it was) and then proceeded to hang the bracket with an anchor into the tile instead - which may or may not survive over time. And finally they installed the new radiator backwards, putting the supply pipe into the return fitting and then proceeded to re-fill the system. I alerted them to the fact that it was the wrong way but they claimed it should still work. Needless to say it did not. I would advise against hiring Horvitz for your plumbing needs.
Great service, quick turnaround, transparent pricing, friendly, knowledgeable, on time, and a staff that actually values repeat business enough to understand it's not worth nickel-and-diming their customers. I never thought I would say this - but I think I finally found a plumber in Boston I will use again and again. Highly recommend!
Jonathan S.I am very picky with my five star reviews. Typically I judge a product or service based on its price, and quality, and often the only way to get five stars from me is to be fantastic, but also free (national parks, for instance).
I am giving five stars to Horvitz Plumbing for being standouts in the world of contract plumbers. I have interviewed a whole parade of vendors for different things that I wanted to do with my home, and seen the whole range of responses from ""Why do you want to do that?"" to ""I'm not going to do that"" to ""That thing doesn't make any sense."" I am a fairly well researched guy, so I stuck to my guns, and kept looking until I found Horvitz Plumbing.
One of the biggest hazards to look out for when hiring a contractor is the one size fits all solution. When all you have is a hammer it all looks like a nail, and so I met a lot of resistance to some of my ideas. Those vendors wanted to do what they wanted to do, and not necessarily what was right for my home, and my request.
Matt was very open to my input. He explained what was reasonable, and what was not, and why as I asked about different options for plumbing an addition in my basement. I sent a rough diagram of how I wanted my heating system to run, and he took it seriously, reviewed it, and said that it was possible. This is exactly what you want when hiring help for your home: a tradesman who takes your input as a layman, and turns it into professional, code compliant real world results.
My interactions with the staff at Horvitz have all been very clear, and respectful. I feel that they treated me very fairly throughout the whole bidding process for my project, and were very patient with quite a fair amount of bank paperwork involved.
All of that is to say this: I am some one who has interviewed many plumbers in my day, and worked with quite a few of them. The staff at Horvitz Plumbing are among the most fair, attentive, and helpful that I have ever hired.
Horvitz is under new ownership. They seem nice enough, but the office staff is lacking in experience/knowledge. As far as I can tell, all of the old staff and plumbers have left. It was a good run, but time to move on.
After my initially good experience with Horvitz, I can no longer recommend them. The did a fine job with the pipe replacement and the subsequent jobs we had them do were standard (but not great - the two other jobs we hired them to do wound up needing to be fixed at a later date because it wasn't done correctly). But the main reason I won't be hiring Horvitz anymore is because the plumber they sent over didn't like a sign I had in front of my house and then he went on a xenophobic tirade in my kitchen. I was paying them to fix my water heater, not to get my politics attacked.
Dianne M.I had a 20 minute emergency service repair on a Saturday afternoon because I had no heat. The on call plumber stopped by on his way home from a class he was taking. Good guy. The labor was $450.00. They charge $225.00 with a 2 hour minimum if you don't pay them $285.00 at the beginning of the winter just for the privilege of paying a more reasonable rate for emergencies. My family has done business with Horvitz Plumbing for over 40 years and I never experienced such a high rate as this. I find this outrageous and will never use them again.
I see these reviews are old and one is unfair, since he only complained about price and not quality. I have used Horvitz several times and once their invoice was lower then their quote, when does that happen, and talk about honesty.
I am also a Realtor and I recommend to my clients and colleagues Horvitz all the time, and everyone is satisfied. One of my clients just installed a plumbing hookup for a laundry I her condo. They came on time, finished on time and cleaned up.
They are terrific, and easy to deal with.
