Used Horn for a failed water heater, they were quick to respond in an emergency and we were happy with the work they did,- Kudo's. Looking for a go to company we decided to use them for our AC tuneup. Called, got a quote for $175 the first hour and billed $82.50 every half hour after if work was needed. Ok not the cheapest in town but as I said we were looking for a go to company. A few weeks later my wife schedules it and the tech arrives at the door 8:13 (Ring camera comes in handy) He does his thing in the basement and out at the unit and 35 minutes later reports all done no problems ,didn't even have to replace the filter (I had done that about a month prior) he hopes the rest of his day is this easy and proceeds to his truck- 8:47 (Ring camera again) At 9:15 my wife texts me he's still in the driveway, I tell her he got done quick maybe he's just trying to stretch out his day, wrong turns out he's padding the bill. 2 days later Horn billing calls and asks if they can charge the card they make you leave when you schedule, she asks how much they tell her $350..WHAT!? She disputes it and they pass her off to Philip who says the truck GPS shows him there from 8:05-9:20 and he was probably doing paperwork and that's part of the call and were billed for it but he will reduce it to $257.50, no explanation for why they were trying to charge 2hrs in the first place when even according to their GPS he was only there an hr-15 min. So the service period was 34min and then were billed extra for him to do whatever in the driveway for longer than the service call. ...Shady/Dishonest.
I gave a middle of the road rating. Their work is good quality and I have no problem with that. However, we have had a maintenance contract for quite a number of years that specified twice a year service, once in the spring for AC and once in the fall for heat. Some years ago they began running late and the AC contract rolled into the fall (kind of useless). Now that we're selling, they won't honor the AC obligations saying that it's not due until the fall.
Horn designed and installed a Carrier system 6 years ago at the property.
We purchased the house 3 years ago.
The system failed 3 weeks ago. This was a new Carrier system.
We have 3 bids to evaluate the problem. Thousands of dollars in repairs they all say to replace. Carrier's properly designed and installed should last 10 to 15 years. The tech who came to our house from Horn got a reading of over 4000 for Carbon Monoxide!! So did the other to evaluations. A large part of this reading was simply that at time of install six years ago a seam was not caulked | taped.
When I spoke with Horn about the issues they said they would call back that afternoon did not hear from them for days - they basically said thats it dispute if you want.
I do NOT recommend Horne Plumbing of Exton, PA. I requested a job and was quoted a price. When I realized there was an easier way to do the job and told then about it, they revised the quote--higher. Later, they said I now requested a whole new job. Then, they did not respond in a timely manner, despite my calls, taking more than two week later when they said they'd get back to me in a couple of days. When I asked about the new higher price, they said they needed to order even ordinary parts (why not Home Depot for a tee and some gas pipe)! I cancelled the job and they had the gall to send a very high bill--for doing nothing! I said I would pay half the bill just to be done with them, but the owner called and was very impolite, even rude. He was unwilling to even discuss things with me. He said he wanted his full money, period! I paid to just to be rid of them. Save your money and aggravation.
Courtney N.We found out a pipe from the meter to the house had a leak on a Wednesday . The Plummer we typically used said he could have it done sometime next week (& quoted us a ridiculous amount). We contacted Horn and they were able to do it the next day. Robb and the crew working on the fix were friendly and hardly working. They discovered our pipe was leaking in two different locations. They quickly fixed the whole line, cleaned up, and were out. They quote was very reasonable as well. Would highly recommend.
I had them test my Backflow system as required by AQUA. Scheduling was easy and they gave me multiple options for times slots. Bruce came out to do the work. He was at the house for 15 minutes (I am used to a longer testing time - unfortunately the company who used to do this before, does not offer this service anymore). I am sure Bruce tested everything that needed testing and he was professional. However, when I received the invoice of $175 I was shocked. $175 for 15 minutes? That is a higher hourly rate than a specialized lawyer gets. It is also much higher than what I paid in the past. My recommendation: if you are required to do this test, call other companies to research their service rate. It is not rocket science and should not cost that much.
I cant emphasize enough that you MUST get a full quote from them before work begins. I used them to fix a grinder pump. We struggled with replacement vs repair. We were told that repair was the way to go and that it would be more economical. In the end they gave us a bill for over $12,000, and insisted on prompt payment
Katie M.I hope that people read this review before hiring this company. They are extremely over priced and have no idea what they are doing. They charge for commuting to your house and at $160 an hour, they have you at $80 plus before they enter the door. They tried to charge me over $700 to clean a clogged sink. The original quote was around $300. After being at my house for 30 minutes the $300 turned to $450 and in another 15 is was $700. I told them to stop what they were doing and they said it would still be over $400 and they would have everything in pieces. I think because I am a female, they were taking advantage. I told them they needed to complete the job at the rate they quoted me. They came down the last time and said they couldn't do any more and my drain was still clogged. I now owed them $700. I had to fight to get the price down to over $300 after talking to the manager, Bruce. He was not professional and only took the price down after I called my credit card company to complain and see if this was fraud. I hired another service and they came over and fixed my sink in 30 minutes and charged $89!! I can't believe I started with Horn. Never again! Please do not make the same mistake!
Did a great job repairing my plumbing stack and they were competively priced with no gimmicks. They also arranged a permit and inspection when requested without any hassle. Overall an excellent job.
Linda P.I've been in Construction Mgmt. for over 25 years and have never seen such a tight show as this firm. From arrival to exit in our underground leak, they were symphonic in execution. The only concern I was left with was the matching of the Center's designed sidewalk. They cut and hand dug the slabs & put them back. Of course. If it wasn't for the PA 1Call marking, you would never know they had been there.
Stunning. (And reasonable;)
Thank you Scott & Company.
