Wanted to use them, but we have a well and even thou I called to tell them my well company came out and found the problem and I told Horizon what I needed done, Horizon said company policy says... no they would have to send out a well person and that means more $$$.

To bad with all the advertising I thought I found my plumbing service. This was the PA Horizon.

In April of 2014 I moved into a new home and was told by the previous owners that they had a service contract with Horizon. I called to have them come out in May of 2015 to check my AC; the unit was functioning (installed in 2012) but the fan seemed to be turning on and off even when it was in the ""on"" position. I have a family member with a plumbing/HVAC business who normally does all of my work but as I thought I had a service contract inherited from the previous homeowners and my family member was busy on an out-of-town job; I thought I'd give Horizon a try.

The Horizon technician who came to troubleshoot wrote me up a two page estimate including everything from a cracked heat exchanger on my furnace ($2,900.00), a blower motor capacitor and a dual capacitor (both over $350.00). Nothing was fixed during the visit and I was told that another tech would need to come back and ""take a second look"" after my frozen AC coil defrosted. For this I paid $99.00. As the tech was on his way out, I told him that my family member who has his own plumbing/HVAC business would be coming to give me a second opinion. The tech seemed surprised to hear that and left telling me that someone would be calling me that afternoon to schedule the follow up appointment. I did not receive a call for a follow up appointment.

Two days later I had my second opinion from my very qualified family member. There is no crack in my heat exchanger and neither of the other items mentioned for replacement needed to be replaced. The problem was a loose connection in my thermostat; something that the tech from Horizon did not even bother to check. My AC unit is running fine and fixing the thermostat problem took less than 10 minutes.

Those of you who read this should know that I am not someone who posts things to Yelp; if I have a bad meal, I just don't go back to the restaurant. I'm posting this because I believe that this company takes advantage of people who don't know any better. Yes they were on-time, yes they wear orange booties on their feet. But I do not believe that the tech who came to my home to ""troubleshoot"" my issue had any intention of fixing anything but came to set me up for a sales pitch to purchase new parts that I didn't need. Fortunately in my case; I had another avenue to go to whom I trust. Not everyone is as lucky as I am. Do yourself a favor and take the time to get a second opinion before you commit to Horizon; unless you have a serious emergency, it's well worth it.

Called Horizon after our heater wasn't working,a couple of years ago and the guy came in and told us he couldn't fix our heater because it was to old and they don't make the part anymore. They charged us a $80 service fee for nothing. He told us they could sell us a whole new heater, which we said no and called a guy out of the paper. The new guy fixed it for $400 and it was fine.

Terrible. Was more concern with getting my personal information, rather than sending someone out ASAP! Wasted 20mins on the phone on hold.

We called Horizon to service our central AC as well as a mini split unit in one area of our home. When they came, the technician told us that the mini split could not be repaired and that it would cost $4,000 to replace it. In the meantime, they did us a ""service"" by inspecting our central unit, finding $500 worth of repairs. Not knowing better, we went ahead and paid for it. I called for another opinion on the mini split unit and they fixed it yesterday for $250! I have little confidence in the company and am sure that we overpaid for our servicing the main unit. They get you hooked by offering a low service call fee and try and make up the difference by trying to sell more than you need. I would not call them out again.

I wish it were possible to give less than one star. Horizons basic maintenance is reasonable. But BEWARE if there's a needed repair. My first experience required replacing 2 switches in a heat pump. The parts cost approx $8 and took 15 minutes to replace. I was charged $350 for the effort. Part 2) Since I had a maint contract w them, I had them out on an emergency because my heat pump fan was not running in the winter during heating cycles. They correctly diagnosed it was a fan motor problem & quoted approximately $1200 to repair. I'd learned my lesson & called a local HVAC tech who repaired the unit for $400. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? NEVER use them for repairs!!! They will gouge you.

I will never use Horizon again nor will I recommend them. I had a coupon for a $45.00 heating call. Our heater wasn't working, so I figured I'd give them a try (after all, the commercial is on 100 plus times per day and every bus that goes by has Horizon services advertising on it). The tech. came out, shook his head and said he has BAD news, we need a new heater and that one has to go NOW. And it would cost us between $5,000 and $6,000. Then he said they are the best of the best, etc. We said we had to think about it and he kept pushing. Wait..are you a repair tech. or a sales person? Obviously, the technicians get a commission on a sale. He also didn't honor our coupon and said payment is due when he is there (can't bill later). He said something about a dispatch fee. And charged us $90.00! We had another company come out later that same day, completely FREE consultation. And the heater cost a grand total of $2,900 installed with everything included - including a fantastic warranty. Oh and it is high efficiency. So, the moral of the story is shop around before considering Horizon. They are all about show and advertising.

Call these guys if you're in a jam, you need a fix TODAY, and you don't care what it costs. I'm confident you'll receive good customer service, most-likely same-day service, and the guy that comes to your door will be courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. I'm rating 1-star, though, because I can't recommend them to anyone and I want to warn others against paying 10x the fair market value for their parts. 10x isn't an exaggeration. I was quoted roughly $1500 for a $150 motor and was quoted over $150 for a $10-$15 run capacitor. (This was for my furnace.) Even though these guys act totally professionally, it's basically one big scam as they prey on people in desperate (without heat or a/c) situations. Thanks for listening! -Mark in Mullica Hill, NJ

Horizon charged $89.00 for the service call and said I needed 2 parts. The parts would cost me $1105.00 with the $49.00 coupon.$1194.00 total. They did not have the parts on the truck and he call the wear house to get them delivered. Although it was only 4:30 pm he could not get an answer. This was on a Wednesday. He said they would call me on Thursday morning. They did not call me on Thursday or Friday so I called C&C on Friday. I told them what parts I needed and they said it would be $634.48 including the service call. They came on Monday and did the work. I called Horizon on Monday and they did refund the $89.00. Horizon was almost twice the price. That is price gouging to me. Takeing advantage of people when they need heat is not fair and I wiill not call them again. Always get a second opinion when dealing with Horizion.

Last summer, our a/c system stopped blowing cold air. It was 80 degrees in the house. I called Horizon and they came right out on a Sunday. They said we needed an entirely new system. The current system is 8 years old. They sent another guy out to sell us on the system and we said we'd think about it. In the meantime, they charged us $1100 to recharge the system. The charge lasted 10 minutes.

I was referred to another company, Blue Bell HVAC. When I told the guy what happened, he immediately went to the outside A/C unit and looked inside (which Horizon never did). Sure enough, he found a crimp in the piping which created a hole over time. So the gentleman replaced what he needed to at 9PM on a Sunday. Everything worked perfectly. He said there is nothing wrong with the system. Cost me $850, but its a lot less than what Horizon wanted to charge me for an entire system.
