John P.Outrageous prices! Sure they were able to come out the same day, but if you don't have an emergency, there are many quality options at far lower prices. Since I didn't have their service, I can't rate that aspect.
Here's what they estimated...
1) Replace the Pressure Reducing Valve
- Quote: $294 labor, $233 parts
- Did it myself: 15 minutes labor, 15 minutes on YouTube, $50 for parts at Home Depot
2) Install a hose bib inside house for connecting Reverse Osmosis system
- Quote: $294 parts and labor combined
- Did it myself: 30 minutes labor, $30 for parts at Home Depot
I knew I was in for trouble when, in order to get an estimate, the service guy broke out a 4"" binder of pretty pre-determined estimates. Took him longer to evaluate the work and give me an estimate than for me to do all of the work myself.
I called Horizon because I was off from work and was willing to pay to have someone do the work, just so I could get it completed. I had been putting it off for too long. Once I saw the prices, I was instantly motivated and finished it that day.
So in summary, they may provide quick and great service, but you better be ready to pay what I believe to be far above standard rate.
Jocelyn T.I called Horizon because I saw their advertisements. We needed to get our propane furnace running. They were on time and put their little booties on... great. He opened the furnace and looked at it like he was lost. He then tinkered around for a while and said you need a new inducer. Our ""Flat"" rate for that repair in my little book is $950. I said that is insane. Can you tell me how much the actual part cost (the way a mechanic does with your car). He could not. Can you tell me how long it will take to install, ""About 30 minutes"". So I am thinking this is a very expensive part. The part shows up 1 hour later (he didn't have it on his truck like they say they do) and I do a search online. The part is only $235. So why in heaven's name are they charging me $950. I call the company right away. The guy installs the part, but the furnace still won't work. He leave and says someone will call me to fix the problem with another tech. He left the $235 part in my furnace and drove away. I called a local guy who is highly recommend and he actually spit out his drink when I told him how much they were charging me. Turns out it wasn't even the inducer that was bad. I will NEVER EVER, EVER use Horizon again, and they are such scam artists I will spread the word to everyone I know.
Update: I just had a local guy come out at look at the furnace. Turns out it wasn't even the part Horizon wanted to charge me $950 to put in. It is something completely different that is only a $50 part. Maybe if Horizon spent as much time and money on hiring good people as they do on their advertising, we would not be in this situation.
Jack U.After years of our lower toilet backing up and destroying our powder room and numerous attempts at cleaning the line, I had Horizon Services come out and take a crack at it. The next day after cleaning out the line they showed up and ran a TV camera through it. What a nightmare of twisted roots from the old oak tree that I had just removed that month. The guy almost lost his camera it was so thick.
He recommended that we re-line the pipe or we would be doing a clean-out every few months. Given my past history, and the fact that the last backup cost me several grand to fix, I agreed to the $8500 charge. I checked with my Union pipe-fitter neighbor, who told me that a) Horizon was very very good (but expensive) and that b) he agreed with their assessment.
THE NEXT DAY Horizon mobilized all this hi-tech equipment and knocked it out in about 8 hours. The guys were great, and all I had was about a four-foot trench. AFter they were done, you'd never know they were there. In fact, my neighbor came over that evening and asked me why they hadn't shown up!!! He was amazed. Even the lawn was untouched (they laid down sheets of plywood for the backhoe).
Got a 20-year transferrable warranty, 3 years no interest, and peace of mind. A year later, no issues. Yes, it was expensive, but you pay for professionalism and convenience. Had I had this done before my backup, I would have saved thousands of dollars in bathroom remodeling to fix the damaged flooring and drywall. It's all relative. Highly recommended.
I had Horizon's come out and do a service on my HVAC unit. They found some issues and wanted to offer me a quote on a new product. I figured since my unit is 10 years old it may make sense to get a replacement. This is where my issues began, the quote from Horizon was over $6000 higher than all the quotes I had. When I mentioned it to them the dropped the price $5000 dollars almost instantly. This huge drop tells me something is wrong with how they do business. Horizon was $15k, while three other competitor were right in the 7k-8k range.
I would stay away and have others quote you . They seem to offer super cheap tune ups to get themselves in the door and then do their best to scare you into buying expensive products from them.
I ended up needing to spend $150 to get my unit up and running great.
I wish yelp had 0 stars for the review. Horizon deserves 0 star. I requested for Horizon services for A/C is not working. They dint send service repair man, they send a sales guy. Initially, the guy showed no interest in looking into A/C. He was checking the Heating system and Water heater. He was just a fear monger, said the heating system is hazardous, Even before he started looking at A/C he gave me a big quote to replace the heating system. After a while he looked at the A/C and he said there may be leak in my AC. I asked him to check and confirm is there is a leak. He gave me another quote of about $300.00 to check if there is a leak. Is this not why I am paying the diagnosis fee ? On top of that, he gave me a quote of about $250(no warranty) to fill the gas. At this point, I decided to cut my losses and not use their services.
Most funny part, is before leaving there will somebody from Horizon services will come to my home to ""second opinion"". Yeah right, if I want a second opinion why would I need for another ""Horizon"" salesman?
I called to another service company, they checked for both AC and Heating system for about 30% of Horizon's quote. After all, there was no leak. Never Horizon guys, again!!!
So much for their advertising! I had a leaking pipe and called because of the 24/7 service statement on their website and in their ads-Was told that someone would call me in the morning. No thanks.
We bought one of Horizon's ""service plans"" in June that is supposed to get us preferred service. We have tried twice since then to call Horizon for emergency plumbing services. The first time I called their ""emergency"" number and told them I had to turn off the water main due to a leaking tub faucet (our plumbing is 60 yrs old and there is no shut off valve at the bathroom). They said they could not have anyone there until the next afternoon - over 24 hours later! Great emergency service. Today our washing machine backed up and because of our old plumbing we can't use the kitchen sink as it is also affected. We called Horizon and were on hold for a full 30 minutes - our call was never answered and we could not ""press 1 for a call-back in 15 minutes"" as directed by the voice message. So that's twice we tried to use our wonderful service plan and were not able to do it. I now have a washing machine full of water that is just sitting there. Thanks for nothing, Horizon.
Peter M.I have had them out here many times for many hours and one issue after another. I get that I have an old unit and it may need work but when I tried to get in contact with a manager, they were not willing to help and took them 8 hours to get back to me. I had to go with someone else and would never use Horizon again.
after seeing countless reviews about how reliable Horizon was I called them when I had a pipe burst in my living room ceiling. Told them I had buckets all over to catch the water at 10am, was told the best they could do was get someone out tomorrow. no thanks
Adam M.I will keep this short and sweet. If you want to pay DOUBLE the cost for a service, then use Horizon. We had 3 estimates done on a new A/C unit with a new heater installed. The first two were in the range of 7-8 thousand dollars. The other was $18,000. Same service. Can you guess which one was Horizon?? Bingo, $18,000! When we spoke about it he told me the price can be worked on a little bit if I was interested. No thanks. Not dealing with a company that gives me an inflated rate, over 100% higher than the other 2 estimates, then tells me they can come down some.
And on a side note, when they were looking at my heater in the basement, they said I may want to consider getting a new hot water heater with them too. I said mine was only 2 years old so why would I need a new one? The install date was even on it. He said new technology keeps coming out, so it can't hurt to have a new one. Really?? So if I have a 2014 car, I should buy a 2015 when it comes out just because it may have one new feature??
PASS.
