Company Overview

Domestic plumbing and excavation offerings.

I am Ken Weaver, the owner. My plumbing experience dates back to 1983 working for a plumbing business in Northern Virginia and Washington D.C.. After mastering the craft, I went back to my home in S.W. PA and worked for several larger plumbing firms. I was not fond of the aggressive sales tactics they employed, prompting me to start my own company, following my vision. Since opening Hometown Rooter, we’ve developed solid connections with various home insurance providers and adjusters, and most of our work now involves assisting the larger companies that advertise on television. They look for the truth, and we deliver just that. We manage some work related to home warranties, but the bulk of our business comes from referrals. We discontinued advertising long ago because of the ridiculous costs it entailed.

Very dishonest and unprofessional company. I have no hot water , home warranty company assigned them to check. Their plumber came in and took less than 3 min to check the problem, since they know i can't wait or kinda urgent situation , they told me everything is broken, ask me to replace a whole new tank plus new expansion tank. They charge high price and labor.
And you know what, after replacing a new tank and everything , still no hot water. after all I found out the Gas company shut off my gas the same day I found out I have no hot water. So they diagnosed it wrong or maybe they didn't even try to diagnose. Call them many times, of course couldn't reach them anymore and no one reply my call.

This is a SCAM. VERY unprofessional and unethical, they just want to drain the most money out of you. Plus, you will have ten times more hassle and delay dealing with them.

Hometown rooter came out quickly and fixed our clog. For the services requested (clog removal) they did the job at a reasonable price ($75 deductible from home warranty) and they contacted us/came out quickly.

Unfortunately, after they cleared the clog they then proceeded to do a camera inspection (?would not provide us with a copy of the video). In the camera inspection they told us our pipe was completely filled with water and that the ""cast iron building ?drain? ?[is]? heavily channel rotten"" - this is from the quote. For this, they offered a quote of $5200 which included tearing up our finished basement. ?W?e called a different company that only clears clogs & inspects drains - they don't replace lines. That company came out and did a camera inspection of the line and revealed a beautiful, clean and intact pipe that was not holding water and had no rot? (video provided for our records). ?It seems Hometown ?Rooter was willing to charge us $5200 and destroy our basement for a pipe with no issues. I will never use Hometown Rooter Plumbing again because of this experience.

I would suggest going with a sewer cleaning specialist (google it) to find a company that fixes clogs without suggesting unwarranted repairs.

This company tried to take us for $700 maybe even more! We contacted our HSA to have our hot water heater looked at due to a leak. Bailey the plumber that was sent out spent maybe a total of 8 mins in our home to tell us that we needed a new tank and multiple other items, and that HSA would only cover the cost of a new tank. No more than 10 mins later HSA called and said they wouldn't cover anything due to that Bailey claimed our PSI was to high. So we contacted another master plumber that came out right away to find out that the hot water tank is not bad in anyway! The PSI is no where near what was being claimed. Thank god I went with my gut and saved us hundreds of dollars! Shame on you for trying to take from a family of 6! You should be shut down! I will be contacting the BBB and HSA right away!

Sent by home warranty. Horrible, unethical, and unprofessional. Worst experience ever. Provided zero service and then requested payment.

This company was contacted through our HSA to come out and look at a ceiling leak in our kitchen from the upstairs bathroom. The claim was place Jan. 2. They were at our house Jan. 4 and it is now Jan. 27 and the HSA has continued to inform me that they have never called our claim back into them and until they do, they can not authorize any more work to take place. I am beyond dissatisfied with this service. And what's more is they were quick to take their money from us, but not do the next steps to ensure the service was taken care of.

Home warranty company set us up with Hometown Rooter Plumbing. The scheduling process was very easy and quick. Our plumber, Bailey, arrived on time and was quick to analyze the issue with our leaky pipes and broken valve. He fixed two of the pipes very quickly and for the valve, he informed us he would have to order a replacement part and would reschedule a new visit at no additional cost. He was also very knowledgeable and informative, answering all of my questions clearly. I'm very happy to have worked with Hometown Rooter Plumbing.

If zero stars were an option, I would definitely rate them at zero. DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY. We had a drip in our bathroom faucet. They were sent out from our home warranty company. They sent a very young kid out by the name of Bailey. He rigged something up in the shower to make it seem like it was fixed but it was dripping again an hour after he left. I tried to call them all hours of the day and night and they NEVER answered the phone. Poor customer service. I called the home warranty place and they sent the same person out again. This time he tried to convince me it was fixed but I came to find out all he did was turn the shower head upside down so I couldn't hear the dripping! I called the home warranty place and told them I don't EVER want these idiots in my house again. My husband and I tried to call them again today and again they never answered their phone. So we went to their place of business. The owner Ken was very defensive and said if we aren't happy then we need to call our home warranty company. So unprofessional. As soon as we told him we've contacted the BBB, he basically threw us out of his office. I can't say it enough. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVER!!! You will be sorry if you do.

Hometown Rooter was contracted via AHS home warranty on Sunday. We were sent an automated text and followed up with a phone call.

This is not our first house; we've successfully utilized the homeowner warranties before and always consult what is covered prior to requesting service.

Describing the covered issue to Ken, he point-blank stated that the issue was not covered. It was only covered with a ""seven star"" warranty upgrade. I gently disagreed - he was adamant it was not covered.

While polite and friendly, he was completely incorrect.

He did what many service providers do - made up an excuse because he just didn't want to travel from Washington County to the top of Allegheny county for a small job.

I obtained outside authorization for a competent plumber close to home, who completed the work for the warranty company.

On a late Saturday afternoon when I was rushing getting ready to go somewhere, I came downstairs from taking a shower to find all of the shower water from the 3rd floor bathroom came up out of my first floor powder room toilet. I had a massive clog in my sewage pipes. I called the home warranty the next day (Sunday) not realizing the extent of the issue and they sent out Hometown Rooter Plumbing for the standard $75 fee. Ken, the owner, came out Sunday and by that point, the pipe appeared to be empty, the clog having drained out. He said he'd send someone the next day (Monday) with the camera to send through the line and see what's up. The next morning after I showered again, it happened again and water again spilled out onto my beautiful first floor hardwood floors. The Hometown Rooter plumber who came Monday, I think his name is Joe, opened up the sewage stack and cleaned out the enormous clog that was inside then ran a camera down the lines and found cracks, separations and holes in my old terra cotta piping. I have yet to replace these but the work is intended to start within the next week. Ken came back out to my house and met with the insurance agents and ran the camera again to show them all the cracks and separations. Ken and Joe were professional, friendly, and knowledgeable throughout. I have been able to call them with questions and received quick turnaround on all my requests. Further, they really tell it to you straight and I appreciate their candor. I would definitely recommend this plumbing company.

We moved and shortly after had plumbing issues. Hometown Rooter was sent out by our home warranty company. They arrived the same day and took care of the problem within a week and ensured that we had access to the water each night which was great. We had a later issue and called Hometown Rooter back. They again arrived quickly to assess the issue, provided a quote, suggested how we move forward, and helped with each step of the way. I've now dealt with Ken (the owner), a crew (same crew twice), and Joe who gave the estimates. They have all been very friendly, great to deal with, and professional. They are a small business and as such can be a little tough to get in touch with at times, but Ken has always gotten back to me with a bit of follow up on my part. I trust them and would absolutely call them for future issues.
