Here's a 30 day update to the review I wrote for Home Inspection Authority,( 5 stars for his service, 1 star for giving out my personal contact information = 3 stars). Since I wrote my 7/15/2015 review, I've received phone calls/emails from alarm companies and other 3rd party vendors like 'sewer guard' which offers coverage for my Water and Sewer Lines. Apparently John uses the personal contact information you give him (cell phone and email address) to allow other companies to solicit you into buying 3rd party services. It's in his contract, so if you don't want to get unsolicited calls and emails (at 12:31am?) from other businesses trying to sell you things, ask John to delete it from the agreement, or just use another 5 star Home Inspection company. I will from now on.

Had our home inspection done yesterday (7/21/15) by John Laforme. Highly recommend. Excellent customer service, very thorough. Took time to explain issues and the severity. Really appreciated the time he took to thumb thru pictures he had taken and gave us a little summary. If you need house or commercial building inspected, i would encourage you to call him.

Glad I found John through yelp! I use yelp for everything and being a first time home buyer I wasn't sure how I was going to find a good home inspector, but glad I picked him for our house inspection.

John doesn't waste anytime, he came a bit earlier and was on time to the appointment. He has a great personality and has the patience to go over his findings with you. I'm a total newbie to home inspection so it really helped that he took the time to go through the photos with us.

I really recommend using John for your home inspection. He even gives you a box of jolly ranchers to take home which adds a nice touch!

John was great! We are first time homebuyers and he did an extremely thorough job of investigating all the areas of the house, and all with a great attitude. Thank goodness we found him on Yelp!

Details: He arrived right on time and it took about 3+ hours for a single family home, and he went through the roofing, exterior, structure, electrical, heating, cooling, insulation, plumbing, and interior. This included going down under the house as well as into the attic, and took numerous photos of problem spots throughout his explorations. At the end of the inspection, he sat down and walked through all his photos/findings with us and made sure to address any questions that we had in a unbiased and straightforward manner (e.g. not an alarmist but also didn't downplay problem areas). He also included a guide for home owning maintenance at the end that has good tips.

Not only were we impressed, but also our agent and the seller's agent were too! They even asked for his contact info so they could use him in the future :)

Report: Within a couple of days, we received a detailed report. It included all the photos as well as additional reference information around each issue as backup.

Price: Very reasonable and for a quality inspection! Not to mention, he also includes a mold and sewage guarantee which is pretty rare.

I'd highly recommend that you go with John if you're looking for a thorough inspection of your house. You won't be disappointed!

We worked with John for two home inspections. We found him to be:

1) Candid and unbiased, which is RARE in the inspection business.
2) Knowledgeable and thorough.
3) Prompt and enthusiastic about his work.
4) Communicative and skillful at communicating complex home-related issues.

As he got busier this season, his report did not appear as thorough as the first one we engaged him to do, but overall it was still very informative. He was very accessible and there to pick up the phone even at odd hours, so we believe the service was ""A"" level overall. We're highly discriminating (but very fair) consumers and would definitely engage John again.

We are in the process of purchasing our first home, therefore it is imperative to know all the potential problems we are getting ourselves into before we close escrow. This is why finding the best inspector possible at a reasonable price was crucial. Thanks to previous reviews, I found John and researched his company (along with a few more inspectors), called a few inspectors for quotes and availability, overall I am pleased with my gut feeling by choosing John.

Very friendly, comprehensive, knowledgeable and attentive to all details;took the time to explain his findings with us in detail and answered the 100 questions I had. He was flexible with our schedules and available when needed. He is very professional and was fun to be with for appx. 3 hours or so. John definitely provided us with the piece of mind we needed. Excellent job all around and highly recommended!

John is absolutely fantastic! We were lucky to have found him. In fact, we called him on Sunday night on a holiday and he showed up Monday morning! It is an older house in Encino. He did a VERY thorough inspection - a lot more than we expected, for a reasonable price. He is reliable, courteous and sent a report within 24 hours. WE HIGHLY recommend him and will use him again.
