I would do everything I can to stay away from these characters. They are not what they claim, they promised one thing and do another, and then walk away from the job. Then they become very hostile. They are among the worst contractors available in Hudson County. Do not go near them, you will have a very poor experience.

HKB helped transform our new condo unit into a showpiece. We were on a tight move-in deadline, and Tony's team pulled off a schedule to be cleaned up before the date. Work is beautiful and flexible to custom parts, unexpected house issues ... More

WORST EVER. Very very strongly recommend against working with Tony. He turned out to be our biggest nightmare and one of the worst people I've interacted with in my life. He started off being extremely polite and charming when he wanted our business and promised us a lot. Then, there were significant errors in the work they did. After that he turned hostile and mean. All he cares about is getting his contract signed and getting money. There's no attention to detail, work is full of mistakes, and zero accountability.
He installed the wrong tiles in the bathroom. When we pointed this out he said they were correct and he didn't have anything in writing to suggest he was wrong. We showed him our messages with details and pictures, now when that proved him wrong, he said, ""I don't want to have these nonsensical conversations, you are changing your mind and want to get free work"".
He regularly shouted at my wife throughout the job when she interacted with him to work through the details, saying things like, ""I'm not your errand boy"" when she told him which hardware to order, it was written that he was responsible for purchasing the hardware which was included in the cost.
When we told him that he had done things wrong, he stopped work, leaving our bathroom incomplete until we agreed to pay him in full. Once he got this in writing he resumed work, and the mistakes never got fixed.
He habitually lied. On the phone he agreed to a deal with us in the morning, I sent him an email summarizing the conversation and later in the day he sneakily tried to change the terms so we had to pay him more. When I called this out in writing and told him to be explicit about the deal we had agreed to on the phone, he refused to do it. He verbally told us things he would not charge us for, but he did in the final invoice.
He kept saying that he had done more work for us than initially anticipated as they found plumbing issues, he made it sound like a favor, but increased our cost by 15% for it. I have no issues with paying for work if they deserve it but he kept making it sound like we were at fault and he did us some big favor.
Even his workers kept telling us that the expectations he had given us were unrealistic and this is his regular demeanor. Tony made us feel like we were at fault by telling us that in his entire career he had never encountered problems like ours so we were at fault, but we discovered this is normal for him. His other Google reviews talk about similar experiences and we ran into friends who had used him, had terrible experiences, had to fire him and get everything redone.
When we told him he had done things wrong, his reply was, ""what are you going to do, sue me?"". He entered our apartment and told my four year old child, ""I have to go fight with your mommy"". This shows how he treats his clients and I definitely don't recommend someone like this.
Mark F.I recently had the pleasure of working with Tony at Hoboken Kitchen and Bath for a complete renovation of my kitchen and bathroom. Tony handled every aspect of the project himself, and the results are absolutely stunning. His attention to detail and craftsmanship are truly remarkable. From the very beginning, Tony took the time to listen to my ideas and offered valuable suggestions that really enhanced the final design. He was incredibly patient and made sure that every element of the renovation was exactly how I envisioned it.What impressed me the most was Tony's dedication--he was hands-on throughout the entire process and kept me informed every step of the way. The project was completed on time and within budget, which I really appreciated.I can't recommend Tony at Hoboken Kitchen and Bath highly enough. If you're looking for a skilled professional who takes pride in his work and delivers exceptional results, Tony is your guy!
Buyer Beware:
We hired Tony and his team to work on our master bathroom. It turns out working with Tony has been an awful experience. At first he seemed friendly and nice, but looking back, it was just the salesman in him. Before the project started, we asked him if we spent less than what was projected, we would get our money back. He said we would (which we got in writing). Fast forward to the end of the project, he sent us our final bill and we asked him for a breakdown of all the costs to determine our potential savings. For whatever reason, he was being sketchy and would dodge our request. Obviously, he knew he spent less than what was estimated, which is why he refused to give us a breakdown. As we can see from this matter, Tony is not a man of his word. He also tried to switch the subject and accused us for being ""late"" with the payment even though he sent us the final bill weeks after the project.
He was non-existent when the project was going on and doesn't even know how the project turned out (he asked us to send him pictures). His team damaged our walls when moving stuff up and down the stairs and never offered to repair it. They also left piles of styrofoam and cardboard in our house even though the contract stated that they would throw out all of the trash. Again, they never offered to come back and pick up the trash.
Tony is a big talker, and will say anything to get you to sign with his company. Before signing a contract with him, I would make sure he gives you a detailed breakdown of all the costs and get absolutely everything in writing in the contract. He claims to use ""high-end"" items but I couldn't tell. You'll never know though, because this shady man will never provide you a breakdown anyways.
The bathroom is passable, but I would steer clear of Tony and his company. You can definitely find a better contractor than this sleazeball.
Steven L.i was a tenant for one of the jobs Tony did. He's super weird and gave off weirdo vibes, and after seeing the results of his work, it all adds up. Definitely don't go with him, if he refers you to other sources for reviews/feedback, they're paid only sites that can filter out bad reviews.
Virginia L.Tl;dr we paid and then Tony ghosted us and left us with an incomplete renovation. The photos are the end result.
***Now the full story if you want to read***
This was our first ever renovation project. We found HKB on Houzz and they had many great reviews, but we didn't know until after the fact that the negative reviews on Houzz do not actually get posted (as mentioned by another reviewer)!!! That's definitely misleading for the consumer, I'm surprised it doesn't violate some sort of consumer law! I will never use Houzz ever again. Now looking at the Google reviews, I think it's interesting seeing how many LIKES the 1 star reviews for HKB have gotten..
Anyhoo. SO when we were gathering quotes, Tony was super kind and most enthusiastic about the renovation that we trusted him and picked him to do the renovation for us. We needed to replace the flooring, kitchen cabinets and counter, and bathroom bathtub/vanity/toilet/tiling of our 1 bedroom apartment. At one point we went to pick some samples from Home Depot with him and he kept saying how beautiful of a renovation this is going to be and that he would treat this renovation as if it was his own place. He even held our 1 year old baby, he was just super friendly. We had no reason to doubt him at this stage.
After 3 weeks of work that he allegedly oversaw himself, he said it was complete and requested the third and final payment. Since we weren't in town, we had a friend take a look at the work and he raised issues that needed to be fixed, so we didn't feel comfortable making that final payment yet. A week later his team addressed some the issues and very poorly at that. Meanwhile, Tony is still demanding final payment and even threatened to file a mechanical lien on our property if we didn't pay. He said it was standard to make final payment while he addressed the ""punch list"" items. We thought we could trust him so we made the payment. Then Tony's project manager, Charlie, reached out to us saying he would take care of the remaining issues. We sent all of the photos (same ones attached to this review) and videos of everything that needed to be fixed. Charlie said he would go the following Tuesday.. no one showed up.. then he said someone would go on Thursday.. again no one showed up. I messaged Tony and sent him the photos.. no response. Tried reaching out to Charlie again.. no response. What I feared had come true, i.e., we were ghosted as soon as Tony received the final payment and are now left with this really bad quality renovation that we'll have to hire someone else to fix.
I just feel so disgusted thinking back at how we let this man hold our child and trusted him to do the right thing, but in the end he really screwed us over.
Pat N.They redid our bathroom a year ago due to a water from a shower pan . A month after we saw water leak, they were called and never found the reason of this '' new '' leak. The quality is just OK. They demonstrated a lack of professionalism shocking when you work in this area.
They just want your money. They are cheap but that will cost you more. Thank Tony
After coming to my condo to discuss a bathroom remodel and then a second visit with a plumber, I was promised I would receive a scope of work. After following up numerous times, I NEVER HEARD BACK! I texted. I called. I left a voicemail. Even when I asked Tony if he was no longer interested in the project, giving him the option to simply reply no. Nothing... HIGHLY unprofessional! Delayed me starting my remodel by over a month as I now have to start over.
Dori G.Think Tony's price is too good to be true? There is a reason for that.
We hired him to install all new floors after a flood in our apartment. Less than two years later all the floorboards were cracking and coming up. I even pulled a piece of floor out of my one year old's foot. We were trying to sell our unit and couldn't because of the state of the floors.
We showed Tony and he said he would fix it, but instead somehow made it even worse and in addition to being cracked and coming up, the floors were no longer level. There were huge dips right in the middle of our apartment. It is also important to note that ""fixing"" took months of no-shows and last minute excuses, despite us making ourselves available 5 days a week for over two months for the work to get done.
We had an independent inspector from the National Wood Flooring Association come do a report. This was expensive but we decided it was worth it to get to the bottom of what happened. The report is very detailed and states that Tony and his team installed the floors incorrectly both the first time, and again when they tried to fix it.
We had to give the buyer to our unit a $15,000 credit so they could get all new floors installed correctly. I regret working with Tony because we lost $15K only two years after paying to install all new floors. If I could do everything over again, I would spend more initially with a more reputable business.
Please don't get into the same situation we did by trying to save money -- you may lose in the end like we did. This was so incredibly stressful.
I definitely had a great experience with Hoboken Kitchen and Bath.
From a timing perspective, from the day I reached out to Tony to the time it took his team to complete a total renovation of 2 bathrooms, changing one bathroom door from an open in door to a pocket door, painting my kitchen cabinets and island, updating my kitchen sink and small miscellaneous projects from helping me clean up the drywall around sconces in my living room to helping me hang new mirrors, it only took 5 weeks. 2 weeks of planning and 3 weeks of work.
Unfortunately we can only post 4 pictures on Houzz, but my kitchen looks great as well.
In terms of working with Tony and his crew, we had a fantastic experience. The crew was very respectful of our home and acted very professionally with us. We felt completely safe and secure throughout the entire process.
Tony was very responsive and flexible whenever we needed to make a change. I would encourage anybody working with Tony be vocal if something doesn't seem right or isn't what you agreed to because he will be happy and quick to fix it.
In the end, the total cost came out a little bit more than we originally agreed to, but when I doubled checked on whether or not the up-charges seemed fair with a friend who is a Contractor in Bergen County, my friend not only confirmed that the charges were fair, but couldn't believe what a great deal tony gave me on the entire project.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Tony and his team to any of my family or friends looking to make updates in their homes.
Thank you Tony and Carlos for a fantastic remodeling experience!
