Once I signed the contract I was told that the work would start Monday and finish by Friday. An entire week had passed and he had only showed up for a total of around 7 hours with days passing in between. He gutted my bathroom even though he knew that was the only bathroom in my house and then would ghost me for days. He never responds and when he does he is full of excuses. I've read the last few reviews and they are 100% accurate and show who he is as a professional. Now he is no longer responding. I am seeking advise from an attorney at this point. DO NOT HIRE!!!!

I employed this contractor to turn my tub/shower into a walk in shower. Even reading bad reviews here, I made choice to hire after he said that was done by his worker and he woul. .. Paid him half of the amount of the job ahead of the work. A grave mistake. First 2 weeks he would rarely show up And after pinning him.. he would turn only for 2 hrs or 3 hrs that too 2-3 days of work day. I had to spent days at home waiting for him to come. And everyday I had to chase him about his arrival and he would end up saying several reasons for coming late. Even after 7 weeks we were not even half done. As days went I could see several mistakes being done as I learnt through what was done and what should have been done. Quality of work was so bad that we had pull large tiles 48x48 ; 4-5 times out after sticking them . Even now the shower floor is not draining properly. He poured deck mud and did a bad job in draining. Poured auto leveling mud to cover up.. I lost 500 dollars worth of tile because of his inability. I FIRED him after he did not show up for whole week and responded back when I messaged him at the end of week. I ended losing more money than my budgeted amount because of tiles and the bad job, I ended up paying a different contractor for finishing up the mess.

I hired this contractor to turn my tub/shower into a walk in shower. In the first 2 days he only worked approximately 6 -8 hours. On the third day he didn't show up until after 1:00. I was in a hurry to get the job done and didn't feel confident that he could get the job done in the time frame we discussed and do it right. Therefore I fired him and went with another contractor. I had given him $2,300 up front for material. I asked for $1,300 of the money back as I felt $1,000 was adequate compensation for the few hours he and worked and the little bit of material he had provided (most of the time was for tearing out the old tub and shower). I feel this guy has a very poor work ethic and does shoddy work. I had already found several things that he had done that I wasn't pleased with. I would never recommend him to anyone else.

Did a great job on installing a kitchen faucet several days ago. Said he would be here by 2pm today for a leaky pipe and never showed up or answered my texts. So i won't be using him again.

Still DO NOT HIRE!!

To follow up to my previous review on Tom Douglas, the owner of H&L Contracting/H&L Services. He did follow through with paying my parents back for a double payment after his check bounced, but he only responded after I filed a complaint with the BBB and the State's Attorney's Office. And the shower that he completely replaced less than a month ago is now leaking into the basement. He's been notified, but hasn't responded.

I needed corroded valves replaced for my washing machine on a Sunday for a job I started myself but could not complete. H&L came out that evening and had the job finished and cleaned up in under an hour. Will call again for future projects.

I had 2 leaks in my basement. I looked at 2 other companies but the couldn't do the job for 1 or 2 days. H&L did the job the same day. He was nice and explained his planned to fix the leaks.
