Recommended Customer Reviews

We had excellent service from Jose, the manager at Hirsch at 3317 West Jefferson Blvd. We are renovating a bathroom and Jose was extremely knowledgable and helpful with all his recommendations. It went very well from our first contact by phone to our coming to the store. They had most everything in stock and we needed a lot of different products. Jose carefully checked to make sure that what we did need to order would be available in time for our contractor. Prices were good. Service excellent. We will definitely be back and recommend to people.

I am not a plumber or a contractor of any kind. But I was attempting to repair my water tank. I happen to live about 4 blocks from Hirsch. As luck would have it, in the middle of my repair, I need a six inch pipe that is actually called a nipple. (Who knew?) So I hop in the car, and drive the minute or so to Hirsch. Service guy there had the part. Puts the part in my hand. Tells me it's $3.75, but he can't sell it to me because they have a $25 minimum purchase. I guess this is how small business loses customers to Lowe's and Home Depot.
Or, they just don't care any more, because their building will be a four story condo with a Starbucks and a ramen noodle shop downstairs soon enough...
Went across the street to Tak's and bought said nipple for about 25% less.

Wow, Hirsch even ADMITS they have bad customer service! Here's the story: my toilet was leaking and after watching YouTube I think its the flapper. I remove the flapper and take it with me to Hirsch. I tell the guy behind the counter I need a new flapper for my American Standard toilet. He goes to look for it. Phone rings, Hirsch guy comes back, picks up the phone and starting looking for something in the computer while chatting on the phone. After a long while just standing there, I ask the guy, ""Umm, are you helping me or the guy on the phone?"" Guy looks at me and answers, ""The guy on the phone."" I say, ""hey, that's kinda bad customer service."" Guy looks at me again and straight up says, ""Yes, that is bad customer service. That's how we are here."" and continues to help the customer on the phone for 5 more minutes while I stand there dumbfounded. After phone customer is satisfied and hangs up, Hirsch guy turns back to me and looks at my old flapper and says he doesn't have such a flapper for an American Standard toilet. I'm surprised again because isn't Hirsch A PLUMBING SUPPLY STORE?? So I ask, ""Where can I get a flapper like this then?"" thinking they can order it for me. Hirsch guy answers, ""I really don't know. Maybe you can order it on-line from American Standard but they probably don't have it."" I left Hirsch pretty discouraged and confused but decided to just check with Tak's Hardware across the street. I tell the Tak's guy I need a new flapper and he examines my old one, takes me to the plumbing supply aisle and shows me a stack of flappers that look EXACTLY THE SAME as my old one. Nothing special about them, they weren't labeled for American Standard only, they were just right there with a variety of other flappers. Tak's guy shows me how the edge of my old flapper looks warped, but also tells me to keep the receipt in case its not a flapper problem and I can return the flapper to Tak's for $3.27 (!!) He also gives me tips on checking the fill valve to see if the leak is there. I went home and the new flapper fixed my leak. Thank you Tak's Hardware!! I am renovating a 2nd bathroom and was going to buy a pricey new toilet and sink from Hirsch but Hirsch has lost my business since they either (1) are a terrible plumbing supply company for not carrying basic flappers or not knowing how to source them for customers, or more likely, (2) think they are too good for customers who are just homeowners, and not pros or even worse, customers who are not men. Life is too short for that BS. Going elsewhere!! (pic: old flapper on bottom, new flapper for $3.27 on top. Exactly the same!)

My plumber bought a water heater enclosure here. He could have bought the very same enclosure for $22 cheaper from a competitor and when I told him to return it I learned Hirsch has a minimum 15% ""handling charge"" for return goods (says so on the invoice).
One-star is what I think about your prices and greedy return policy....

This place is lame if it wasn't for the necessity I wouldn't even go there it's just one of those places need customer service and guaranteed stock when you call on the phone and check it well then lower your expectations. Too much commission based Performance. There's no videos or pictures of customer service just videos of a bunch of dudes on vacation. Lame service hirsch has it. Wasted two hours of valuable time driving to Santa Monica branch now!

2 ... 3 experiences
1) I went there on a Friday because they're close. I got there at 4.55. I know because I ran 1 light and 2 stop signs to get there before closing.
One of the employees was standing at the gate and would not let me in. Said they were closed. Mind you I knew exactly what I wanted. But no. I vowed never to go back.... until I needed a part and someone suggested I go there.
Alright. One more try.
2/3) I went back in for another plumbing issue. Got the kit and asked if that was all I need. Yes... until I got back home and there was another piece that was not in the kit. So, no. I am not a plumber but made the mistake of relying on the employees to be more knowledgeable than I. Don't. Either they just don't know about plumbing issues or they just don't care. I get the feeling it's a little of both.

I had a terrible experience at this location, I have no idea about plumbing so I came here to ask the ""experts"". The guy I spoke to his name is Frank this guy treated me like if I was some 5 year old, he belittled me and made me feel like I was stupid, he was being very rude and sarcastic with me. I will never go back to this place, heck I will never go back to any Hirsch Pipe branch if this the way they treat their customers. Thanks for nothing Frank, you were useless.
