Darrow Hicks is the best plumber I've ever hired because he is professional, effective and honest. He did a great job of repairing our leaky shower. Here's what Darrow did and why he earned my trust and future business:

* Showed up promptly
* Was always polite
* Clearly communicated the problem and his solution; answered my all my questions
* Because the faucet is older and the original components were no longer available, he called the manufacturer to learn about the most effective replacement component
* Cleaned up his workspace
* Didn't charge me for an extra trip he had to make
* Used technology on his mobile phone to be more effective, from taking a photo of the component in question to send to the manufacturer, to processing billing on the spot. This tells me he not only knows plumbing, he also manages his business well.

Darrow knows his stuff, gets the job done right, doesn't rip people off and is polite. He's everything I what I want in a plumber.

You might have good reviews but leaving your customer waiting and not returning a call when you said you will phone back for a confirm time!

I followed up twice and no signs of Hicks reply. Guess I have to move on with another more responsive plumbing contractor.

I will not call any other plumber now! Darrow is very nice, helpful and his prices are very reasonable. I'm so glad I found him on here and now I have a plumber I can trust! I called to have a toilet fixed which he fixed in about 10 minutes but I also had questions about other things in the house. He did a walk through with me, answered all my questions and even wrote down what would have to be fixed with base quotes. Absolutely WONDERFUL!

Truly deserves the other 5 star reviews. Called in the morning for a kitchen clog. Said he could come in the afternoon, with two follow up calls that let me know the approximate time. Well dressed, well mannered, professional and very neat in the way he went about the work including the meticulous way he reloaded his truck. Later, the clog wasn't completely cleared (and he'd warned me kitchen clogs can be difficult). Next morning 9:00 AM (Saturday) he returned and quickly identified the problem - same quick work and water now freely drains. No additional charge. 60 day guarantee. Would certainly use him again.

Where to begin really?

I'm a Pasadena native and have had mixed results with plumbing over the years. It could be that I'm jinxed, or it could be that in general, there are a lot of people that claim they know what they're doing, but actually just slapped a decal on the side of their rented car and show up looking to cause leaks. Probably more the latter.

And then I stumbled upon Darrow Hicks, the consummate professional... he is clearly well trained and well equipped, and has been practicing in and around the San Gabriel valley since the 80s. From the moment of diagnosis his wealth of experience leaves little to surprise and conjecture, and he is able to quickly triage issues on the spot and recommend specific courses of action. One aspect of his style that I particularly enjoy is his willingness to recommend a suitable, but less expensive, course of action when that is appropriate. How many plumbers do you know who are pipe happy and ready to start tearing into walls and floors? Yes, many. How many want to replace whole units versus attempt a simple fix? Yes, many. Not Darrow... he is a sober minded and steady handed expert who will work with you on what the best solution is for you, your goals, your timelines, and budget.

I met Darrow for the first time today, and this will not be the last time that I call on his services. I just wish he also did taxes and electrical work!!! :-)

What a breath of fresh air to restore my faith in my fellow man. Called this morning because I busted off a pipe elbow while replacing my kitchen faucet last night. The break was behind the back-splash, inside the wall, and I could do nothing but shut off the main and hope I could get someone reliable to come out and do this today.
Darrow took my call first thing this morning and told me he could be out in the afternoon. Then he did the unthinkable and actually changed his schedule around to be able to come right out and take care of me first. He and his assistant were very professional and courteous. He explained what he was going to do and then went ahead and did it even though it turned out to be a bigger job than initially believed once the wall was opened up.
Again, so nice to get such attention and service. The price was more than reasonable given the amount of work he had to do. Given my situation someone else might have tried to take advantage. I highly recommend Hick's for cleanliness, timeliness, professionalism, and cost. Thanks Darrow.
