Joe Harrell founded Harrell Mechanical on his 50th birthday, March 1, 1985. He subsequently teamed up with Rennie Fish, resulting in the establishment of Harrell-Fish Mechanical. After Fish's retirement, the company continued as Harrell-Fish Inc. After Harrell retired, Steve Dawson was appointed president and became co-owner with Dave Mood and Brad Schlegel. In 2015, the partnership expanded to include David Conner, Michael Hupp, and Phil Livingston. The company underwent a rebranding to HFI Mechanical & Building Solutions in 2015.
