Company Overview

Henthorn Plumbing offers a wide range of plumbing services. We specialize in remodels, repipes, and even the simplest clogged drains. Our goal is to provide a plumbing experience that is both simple and satisfying. Here’s a thorough overview of what we offer: Sewer cleaning and repairs, water heaters, tankless systems, garbage disposals, gas lines, repipes, underground polyethylene gas lines, sewer replacements, water service replacements, sewage ejectors, new installations, remodels, and service & repair.

In 2005, I launched my plumbing career with a well-regarded plumbing business in San Mateo County. I valued my time in service, repair, and remodels as I started my career. Those three years provided me with invaluable skills. I then took a role with another well-known plumbing service in San Jose, CA. After five years in the service sector, I felt it was time for a change. From 2010 to 2014, I collaborated with a top-notch plumbing contractor dedicated to new construction in Atherton, CA. Throughout that period, I established a loyal client base during my off hours. To better serve my clients, I decided to fully commit to my business, leading to the creation of Henthorn Plumbing.

My goal is to revive that old-fashioned, clear-cut service because that’s my style and what quality work is all about. Henthorn Plumbing is completely licensed, bonded, and insured. I’m Matt Henthorn, the owner and a licensed plumbing contractor (CA #994835), raised in Mountain View, CA.

I cherish moments with my wife and two kids, playing music, enjoying traditional archery, and, naturally, plumbing.

I came home and found my heater broke. Found Matt on Yelp, he said he was nearby and will come take a quick look. Turns out my heater is leaking and needs to be replaced. He said he will come back at 4:30 with a new heater and replace the old one. He came back at 4:20, and finished everything by 6pm.

Matt is very skilled and efficient. He double checks on all possible leaks. Cleaned everything up when he left. The price is reasonable as well.

This guy (along with his trusty sidekick):
-Showed up when he said he would
-Was chill & pleasant both on the phone and in person
-Solved our plumbing problem promptly
-And for a reasonable rate -- $125/hour, with no extra $50-70 BS surcharge for the simple act of climbing on the roof, unlike two other places I called (He-Man and Kratzer Plumbing)

My one beef is he failed to return a follow-up call. But otherwise, so far so good...

This is a long overdue review. My whole house was backed up a day before 4th of July this year - the clog was somewhere in the street. I called several plumbers on friday night July 3rd trying to find anyone who would come out that night because I assumed no one was working on the 4th saturday and I would be stuck with family over, and BBQ, and no working plumbing.

Several of the guys I called could not make it friday night. Others were not avail sat and one guy who was avail to come sat morning gave me a very expensive quote. So I decided to wait and try again sat morning. Called a few more people and luckily found Henthorn.

Matt came over when he said he would, gave me a very reasonable quote, and worked to clear the line which took a 200ft snake. He normally worked saturday so didn't charge me any premium for it being a holiday - he easily could have. That told me right away what type of person he was. Then when he ran the snake - it didn't clear the clog - he tried a second time, then a third - I think it took the 3rd time to start to clear - and I believe he ran it again just to make sure everything drained. It was looking like it would not clear at first but he kept trying. It probably took him 3x as long as he planned but he kept at it until he got the job done.

I was so impressed with his determination to get it done and satisfy his customer and the fact that he politely asked if I could pay him a little more for the extra time. At the end what I paid him was still 30% less than the quote I got friday night from another person who was clearly taking advantage of the situation.

Overall, his service, cost, quality, and attitude were outstanding. If I could give 6 stars I would.

Matt Henthorn was the 3rd highly rated plumber I called for an estimate. He was prompt and on time and professional. He gave me an overview before starting the job and an estimate on how much it might cost. I agreed and him and his apprentice (what I assumed the other gentlemen was) began working on the shower to diagnose the low water pressure issue. He replaced the shower valve with a new unit but the issue was still present. He then said the cause is most likely debris stuck between the pipe connecting from the shower handle and the tub spout. He said that he wanted to try to blow out the pipe with compressed air before going to another method. Him and his apprentice left to the hardware store to purchase materials to clear the clog. They were gone for what seemed to be forever. They finally came back and built a interesting contraption with pipes and hose fittings to their small compressor. They pretty much put it all together and filled it with 90 PSI. The air pressure shot out all the rust/gunk/debris from the tub spout pipe out through the open valve. They put it all back together and turn on the water. Problem solved with a couple hours or work Matt's ingenuity. The first plumber that gave me the quote I would almost want to say he tried to rip me off. I won't be using either of those services from the other plumbers going forward. I now have a go to honest plumber that I will be using in the future!

Background info:
The first highly rated on Yelp plumber tried to sell me a $$$$ entire house pipe replacement and a bathroom remodel to fix the low water pressure problem to only 1 shower. The 2nd plumber also highly rated on yelp that I had an appointment with earlier in the morning was a no show and no call.

My kitchen drain became plugged with no advance warning. I called Matt the next morning, and he and Eli came out on short notice. Everything has been running fine since their visit. The price was very reasonable, and I appreciated the prompt service. I would definitely call them again, and am happy to recommend them.

I had three small jobs to be done, Matt came out and took care of them all quickly and I liked the price. He even advised me to not do something I wanted him to do. I'd use him again.

Matt came out no more than two hours after I called. He snaked a clogged drain via the roof and in no time he was done and gone. Great service.

This is a raving review for Matt. I will admit I was surprised to see how young Matt was since the reviews all suggest someone that has been in the business for many years. Remember that old adage, ""don't judge a book by its cover...""

My problem was simply a plugged up line from my island sink. He arrived early and finished in 20 minutes; however, the sign of excellent customer service is respect, clear communications and proper actions. He told me exactly what he was planning to do, asked politely how best to bring equipment into my backyard, and took it upon himself to clear my main line so that I wouldn't need a follow up call. He was the consummate professional in an industry full of seedy people and practices.

I was actually referred to another plumbing company to do the work, but I looked them up and they seemed questionable based on the Yelp reviews. I decided to go with Matt at Henthorn Plumbing based only on the 5 star Yelp reviews. As a final stamp of my approval, his phone number is now permanently added to my contact list.

Think of every stereotype you've heard about plumbers and throw them right out the window. I needed some pipes moved in the garage - nothing crazy - but it was way outside of my knowledge base. I called Matt and we setup a time. He called later to let me know he might run a little late due to another job before mine - but they ended up coming early - just after the original time that we had discussed. He was very courteous, clean, thorough and meticulous. We had done quite a bit of work on our house over the last year and this is the 3rd plumber we've used in a year - but there is only one that I will be calling back!

Matt is the man. We manage 600+ units in the Silicon Valley and Matt is always our first call for plumbing needs. Would highly recommend him for any plumbing needs, especially water heaters. Most importantly, we hear constant praise from our tenants and owners about Matt's work and customer service.
