Thompson Plumbing Heating & Cooling is by far the ABSOLUTE WORST company I have ever had to deal with. They charge you for things you don't need, lie directly to your face in your own home, and on top of it all none of their service technicians are competitent enough to do their job. I was personally told this from a former employee of theirs. I was charged %188 for freon that my unit did not need I was then promised a refund check for the $188 after I confronted them about it. After a month and a half of not receiving the refund check I decided to call them back, to which they told me that no one at their company promised me any kind of refund. They are a lying deceiving company which I would highly recommend staying away from. They sent four of their 'senior' techinicians to my house in a span of 9 days to which none of them could figure out what was wrong with my system. After I got another company in they found the problem within five minutes and it was a simple fix (coils needed to be cleaned). Once again stay away from this company along with being liars and decieving they are imcompetent. Their senior experts weren't able to find a rookie fix? C'mon, everything about this company is sneaky and furtive.
Wish I had checked this site before using this firm. Long story short: Through a ""membership,"" I ended up paying double for my services. Disgusted, I cancelled my membership. Yet they charged my credit card for two more months. When I realized this, I asked for a refund and they told me I couldn't have one because I didn't cancel in writing (which nobody told me when I called to cancel). Whatever you do, don't sign up for the membership!
Dave, was very good!! He helped me understand about why why basement was backing up!
Here is my 72 year old Mother that lives alone, experience with Thompson. She called them and told them she believed her AC unit was not cooling and later that day they sent out a serviceman. My mother said he was on time and very polite. The service man replaced a dual capacitor including parts and labor for $371.00 plus an electrical contacter including parts and labor for $371.00. Total for replacing the two parts was $742.00.He was at her residents for less than two hours. I have the old parts and can easily find them online for $25.00 each making the two parts worth around $50.00.
These parts are located inches from each other and are mounted with two screws and only have a few wires to terminate. I understand that companies markup parts, so let's say they markup the two parts 100% which I would think would be on the higher end. Now the $50.00 in parts is now $100.00 in parts for company profit. They also have a $69.00 service charge. Here is how the Standard Rate reads on the service ticket. $69.00 Evaluation Fee + $371.00 parts and labor for contactor + $371.00 parts and labor for capacitor = $811.00.
If I subtract the $100.00 for the parts comes to $711.00.Then divide that $711.00 by the two hours the service man was at the house, Thompson charged her $355.50 PER HOUR. He actually worked on those two parts less than two hours because they also sold her a ""Thompson Club Membership"" they also performed a cleaning and inspection for an additional $89.00. She ended up paying them $900.00 for the service call. After this being said, it's interesting to subtract the possible $100 in parts from the $900 in charges, which obviously gives you $800. Divide the $800 by the two hours of labor and Thompson rate is $400 PER HOUR. Who in this world earns an hourly wage of $400 an hour?
This ""Club Membership"" includes things such as a Whole House Plumbing and Tune Up that includes Faucet Aerators and Dye Tablets. I guess they check the faucet aerators for mineral deposits and then tell 72 year old widow how important it is to resolve the newly found problem. I hope they would give a ""club member"" a break and only charge her the $355.00 per hour rate to clean this.
The next day I stopped into Thompson World Headquarters on N. Commence Ave in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Service Manager I needed to talk to that day was not in the office at this time. I was able to express my concerns with a very nice and professional employee. She told me that hourly rates are set on national averages and I would be contacted by someone tomorrow regarding my concerns. I was indeed contacted the next day and ask what my concerns were. I asked for a refund for ""Thompson Club Membership"" and was informed they return the $89.00 as soon as possible. That leaves the total charges for this service call at $811.00 charging around $355 per hour. Thompson offered no more information or explanation of their charges.
I refuse to beg and grovel for some type of a refund even though I feel that they took advantage of my elderly mother. My mother agreed and signed for the charges and she will pay them- Thompson offered no restitution, so I can only assume Thompson stands behind their rates and service charges. As you can probably guess her AC unit stopped working doing a summer hot streak when going without AC is difficult for anyone at any age.
Justin S.I was very happy with my service from Thompson. Isaac was friendly and up front about what was wrong with my AC unit, as well as pricing for fixing it. When I needed them to come back out for continued issues, they quickly set an appointment for the first day I had available and waived the service fee.
Debbie P.I was very pleased with Stan P. and Hubie H. on the recent installation of a new air conditioner. My old one was about 25 years old and not efficient, and for the past three years had not been working properly. Compared to the cost of repair, it just made more sense to have it replaced. The new unit works very well, and I enjoyed the time with both representatives of Thompson.
super curteous and helpful. I really appreciated the attention to detail and helpful explanation of the problem we had and how it was solved.
This company quoted me outrageous prices for AC unit. Maybe they thought I wouldn't compare prices. I DO NOT recommend this company to anyone.
christine e.DeAndre is very pleasant. He did what he came to do and did not pressure my to buy other services. Advised us to replace a filter, however, waited till I gave him the go ahead to clean and replace the humidifier filter. Wonderful service
Josh O.After purchasing our new (old) home we've had a planned furnace replacement and an unplanned sewer repair. Both items were sizable expenditures.
In both cases, the estimators and technicians were courteous, professional, and flexible with scheduling the work. On the furnace replacement, they were cheaper than the competitor's bid and included extras that the other bid did not. The sewer repair was an emergency, so I didn't have time for a second bid, but the quoted price seemed in line with the magnitude of the work being done. In both cases, the work was scheduled and completed promptly. In fact, in the case of the sewer repair, one of the technicians actually picked me up from work so he could get into the house earlier than scheduled so they could get the job completed more quickly.
They have flexible financing, too. We got 0% for 48 months on both jobs, which saved us some out of pocked money and made it easier to budget the not-quite-cheap work.
Overall, I'm very pleased with my experiences with Thompson. Looking at the BBB profile, I see that many others aren't so I'm crossing my fingers that the equipment and materials hold up.
