One compressor in our elderly mini-split HVAC system broke down in the middle of a heat wave last July. Unfortunately dead unit served both outlets in our store. We contacted and got estimates from a couple of established companies in our area--one attempted to inflate the job to one compressor per outlet (two in store and four in upstairs apartment), and the other was not available for six weeks. Heckeroth was not only available, but proposed to replace the whole system with three compressors and six new outlets capable of both cooling and heating--at a cost below that quoted by the other two bidders. Cut to the chase: two young guys--wish I could remember their names--completed the entire job, installing six units in five days--AND cleaning up every trace of debris both inside and outside the building. Highly recommended!

I was sent to Heckeroth by Goodman to take a look at my AC units. Goodman suggested on the phone that there might be a capacitor/hard start issue. I was charged 70$ for the service call, and then tech informed me that a hard start kit is about 450$. They are 40$ from Goodman, the manufacturer - direct to consumer. Moreover, the main capacitor, a 45/5 type, was also about 400$ from Heckeroth. Again, direct from Goodman, they are about 35$. I appreciate the need to make a living and charge for time and skills - I am a consultant myself and what I know and can do pays my bills - but this represents over an 11 times markup on top of the 70$ cost for the service call.

Let's be clear what it takes to do this work is open the access panel, shut off the power to the unit, discharge the caps, pull off a few wires, remove a couple of screws, and reverse the process with 75$ in parts. It seems that maybe 150$...200$ would even be high here given there is a 70$ charge already.

I don't want to call this dishonest as people can charge what they want, but people should be warned about this company.
