Jeremy P.Do yourself a favor and look for a Owner/Operator local tech to work on your HVAC. The tech arrived on time, and honestly was great. He was in and out in 20 minutes to replace a capacitor. 350 dollar bill. 90 dollar call out fee, OK. Part was 225 and covered under warranty but labor not covered. Guess what the labor charge was for the 20 minutes? $250. Even the tech agreed it was a lot for 20 minutes. You're paying for Handyside's overhead. They lost a customer today
Trevin B.My most recent service call from Handyside needs to be shared. I have used them 4 or 5 for service calls for my HVAC, and have been highly satisfied until today. I called to get service as my compressor was not cutting on. The service technician came out, did his diagnosis, and found I had a bad thermostat. Great news, I thought, as I had already bought a a new Google Nest thermostat to replace it. About a year prior, I had bought and installed a Nest thermostat for my upstairs unit so I knew it would take an experienced tech about 10 minutes to do the install. However, he quoted me $320 to install the thermostat! For 10 minutes of work?, I asked him. He confirmed. In disbelief, I called Handyside and indeed $320 to install a thermostat. I am still in disbelief. Anyway, in 20 minutes, I had the thermostat installed and everything is working great.
Update to management response: I did not call Handyside to replace my thermostat. I called for an appointment to diagnose what was wrong with the HVAC. The $320 was on top of the diagnosis fee. I gladly paid for the tech to come to my house and figure out what was wrong. The $320 was literally for 10 minutes of work.
Jeremy L.I called Handyside for a quote to replace an outside faucet. The plumber came and looked at the faucet and quoted me $585.00 to replace the faucet. I was thinking maybe it was more involved than I thought. Either way, I told him no, and in my head I was like this guy is out of his tree. I called a friend of mine to come see what he thought and we quickly removed the faucet. I went to the hardware store up the street and bought a new faucet for $27.00 and replaced it in about 10 minutes.
I had to pay 89.00 for them to just show up and do nothing but give me an astronomical quote. These guys are crooks and should be ashamed of themselves for stealing money from people. I would call anyone but these guys to come give you a quote and for service.
Eva L.David Potts, a plumbing expert for Handyside is A-ONE!!
One of the most thorough, knowledgeable and polite repairman that has walked thru our door.
We will be Handyside customers from now on, and will always request David as our repairman.
He identified the problem, had all the parts & knowledge to fix the problem and checked that everything was in working order after fixing it.
Thank you again, David!!!
Maxwell M.Despite having signing up for their special service plan, we tried getting in contact with them during the weekend to remedy an emergency issue with our toilet seal, we left multiple messages and didn't receive even a call-back for two days (as of this review). Even the mailbox claims they have 24/7 emergency response, but this is clearly not the case. Do not recommend.
Do you enjoy paying hundreds of dollars to have someone tell you to replace everything, and thousands to do it? If so, this is the company for you!
What they should have done is looked into fixing the extremely simple leak which just needed a little bit of calk around the drain. To fix this properly, all that was needed is disassembling the drain of this kitchen sink, calking it properly, and reassembling it, something that cost pennies for materials and no more than an hour of labor for a professional.
What was actually done instead is he took a brief look at it before quoting a thousand dollars to replace all the plumbing fixtures as well as the faucet itself, and charged us hundreds of dollars for that brilliant opinion.
Very clearly they are dishonest scammers with no honor or integrity. Avoid like the plague.
Positive: Plumber was knowledgable and service was prompt. $89 for 15 minute service call.
Negative: $300 to cap off a flex waterline. 15-20 minute job at most.
I'm a landlord and the tenant said the waterline (to outside faucet) valve was leaking after a cold peroiod. Told Handyside to just cap it off and the total cost was $300. Really? They charge by the job.
Recommend finding a plumber who charges hourly to avoid rip-offs.
I'm pissed.
This is the worst company you could possibly contact for any type of work in your home-they send a man out named'Roger' extremely rude, unprepared, I've never seen anything like it (and there have been others that didn't know what they were doing, but this one, THE WORST)
when whatever wasn't to his liking, he ran like a scared rabbit out of the house, on a new build, almost completely finished, up to all CODES, he had me in TEARS the minute I closed the door!
I decided to phone the company and ask if there is an owner-The receptionist was going to check to see if the owner was there & who comes on the phone, the same 'Roger' that came to the house-they are intercepting the call & not allowing me to talk to the owner!
When you hear their hyped up greeting recording, saying, 'if not satisfied customers blah blah blah, it's all a bunch of hogwash!
They/He acted as though he didn't know an electrical on demand hot water heater that's attached under sinks ect-plumbing situation he stood there like a dummy, confused, rude, I've never been put through anything like it!
So now I'm going to give one review after another throughout the internet & media!
You are entering at your own risk if you allow your first ' diagnostic' appt-he made excuses for the receptionist (Who quoted me a totally different layout of as to what was going to take place this morning than what he knew) when I first called them last week
She shouldn't told me this & that he said- I told her on the phone EVERYTHING needed to be done fir CODES, ALL TEMPORARY HOOK UPS!
NONE were forwarded on his vague paperwork!
He just kept looking at me in FEAR, like a deer in the headlights-looking at each simple project (Which I would say he didn't even see a 16th of it before he JUDGED ME & the job call.
All I heard was, she shouldn't of told me that she shouldn't of said that, no we don't do this, ect- so I said, you've never had a call for a shed to run electric or a plumbing-'no we never did anything like this'!
WHAT, years in the business you've never hooked up a couple things in a new build, a temporary hook up, what does it matter if I'm paying!
That means you don't know how or you're just picky as to who your customers will be! Everyone's money all works the same way as far as I know!
I wish I could tell you even more about the situation at my home.....
So, they would not ALLOW me to talk to the OWNER, they have to have a meeting to DECIDE how to HANDLE me/situation, can you believe this-how to Handle moving forward & they'll decide!
No, That's not how it works for a potential customer-now I'm going to HANDLE THE SITUATION fir the ABUSE I've been out thru!!!
I will handle YOU ALL, so you don't treat anyone else like a piece of crap!!!
They'll tell you they'll be there between 7 & 10. They have no intentions on coming between 7 & 10, it's TEN ONLY-wasting my time that I earn at $500 an hour, in my company business!
Not to mention, The receptionist said m, 'oh yes, not only will they assess, but they will do whatever job they can that morning and then get their needs and come back for a second appt, which was not TRUE whatsoever-he had no clue such a thing as being said!
He, 'RODGER' was just short of making me feel like I was doing something criminally wrong by asking him to do the few things that my CODE enforcer told me was needed to be done-he looked at me like, (let me get out of here!!)
If you do business with them you better make sure everything is perfect, you are perfect, your house is perfect, you look perfect, you talk perfect, because you're going to get verbally slammed around, like I experienced, by Roger, by the people that answer the phone, and by the verbal abuse in trying to speak with a possible owner!
Well, I'm not taking it anymore- I'm going to make sure all these reviews are logged everywhere possible-no one is going to make me feel like I did something criminally & underhandedly wrong, because that is how they're going to make you feel, if you are not the perfect potential customer-not only will the potential job be sized up, but so will YOU!
Who makes a potential customer made out to feel like, ' if you were not perfect, we're not going to except your business'?
There's many companies out there & alot of charlatans, so do your due diligence and contact as many people as you can, because these people will mislead & waste a lot of your valuable time!
I appreciated the quick response and the repair of the blower fan on our unit. However, as the daughter of a man who owned his own HVAC company, I was highly disappointed with the depth of service.
Call me old school, but I thought a smaller company would give me more value for my dollar. I'm used to doing what is good for the customer, not milking all you can get out of them. I was wrong, but I guess that's what some think is good business.
I was disappointed that for the amount of money I paid, they didn't also clean the unit as a part of the service. Like I said, I must be old fashion, but next time I'll dig a little deeper to try to find a company that looks out for its customers better.
Heather Kat A.Do you have a heating, cooling, plumbing or electrical problem? Handyside is a FANTASTIC choice.
I had a bunch of projects around my house and didn't want to wait for my deployed spouse to have to tackle a big ""honey-do"" list when he returns home, or wait for the old, outdated air conditioner/heat pump to die at the worst possible time..so I started calling for estimates.
When I saw great reviews for Handyside, and saw that they cover many different project areas, I scheduled multiple quotes from this company and I'm glad I did.
First step is calling their office, where the customer service is exceptional. They work with your schedule, and set up notifications via cell or email. When an employee is dispatched, you can get a text message or email with a picture of the person, their name and confirmation of the appointment. In a time where people are wearing masks, and you can never be too cautious, the notifications and pictures were appreciated and made me feel safer.
Techs use shoe covers and masks to protect your home, and they clean up after themselves when the work is done.
So far, I have had an outlet replaced, a complete electrical panel replacement, 4 outlets installed, 6 ceiling lights replaced, 2 bedroom ceiling fans installed and a new heat pump/AC installed upstairs. WHEW! I still have a basement HVAC project, and some plumbing work to go, but all in all, the experience has been top notch. There are some very small issues that have come up and Handyside has stood by their work and made it right, and I feel confident they will continue to do so.
Handyside offers financing through Wells Fargo for those who qualify, and depending on the work you are having done, they may get promotional offers for interest rates for you, so make sure to ask what options you may have.
I believe so far I've seen 6 different employees in person with these projects, and every one has been professional, respectful, personable and hard working. I trust this company to get the job done.
