We had haller come in to look at a 3.5 year old hot water heater that was running out of hot water fast. Plumber came by and said it needed replaced due to internal leaks. Hot water heater was covered under warranty. We are 1st time home owners so we were not familiar with costs of hot water heaters. We had them replace it under warranty with a new one and paid 1080$ for 2 hrs of labor (that was the entire time they were here to diagnose problem, & complete replacement). After speaking with family members about what happened we were told there was no way we should have been charged 1000$ for 2 hrs of labor. I called other reputable local companies and was quoted 300-350 for labor cost of replacing a hot water heater. No other companies could justify hallers cost of 1000$ for 2 hrs of labor for something covered under warranty & all said it was ridiculous. I called haller back & spoke with their manager who refunded 250$ Of cost bringing it to 850$. That's still extremely high cost for labor for this. I believe that they charged us full price for a new hot water heater and install, then submitted claim to warranty and were paid by them as well. And if that's not the case, they are charging 450-500$ per hour for labor which is insane. I'm considering filing a complaint with the BBB. A hard, expensive lesson to learn as first time home owners.

I should mention this was not our first experience with them as our builder worked with them to build our home. When we first moved into our home haller had to come out numerous times to fix mistakes they made when building out home. They had to replace outdoor spicket because they put the wrong one on and we couldn't hook a hose up, they did not correctly instal out kitchen faucet, leaving bolts loose, & had to come out and reinstall that, & we had extensive water damage to our 1st floor walls from a 2nd floor bathroom that did not have any caulking placed around a walk in shower.

First time they were scheduled to show up they called with 20 minutes of their 5 hour time window saying they weren't going to make it that day and rescheduled for a week later. The second time the tech showed up and said he couldn't do the work Hvac work on the residential townhouse because it needed a commercial Hvac person due to the system being on the roof. Said the commercial team would call to set up yet another appointment - they did not call. I had another residential Hvac outfit here and serviced my unit without issue. Thank you to the Haller tech who made excuses to get out of a job and thank you to Haller overall for wasting 6 hours of my time.

I would post a ZERO rating if I could. So, I purchased my home in 2006 brand new, newly constructed therefore everything was new. My home was about ten years old when my furnace broke. I contacted Haller and they came out and charged me over $600 to replace the inducer motor. Then the tech recommended that I enroll in their monthly maintenance fee. This fee will pay for them to return to have them return annually to inspect the furnace. I agreed. I have been paying them a monthly fee for 4 years. Yesterday, I started hearing a loud humming noise coming from the same furnace they repaired in 2016. So I called Haller again since I was paying a monthly service fee and they sent out a tech. Low and behold, the tech, Jim Forry advised that the same inducer motor replaced in just 2016, had broken yet again. He now said the estimate for the same part is now $808 ( his $79 fee included). I need heat so I paid for the repair. After speaking with my son, later that evening, my son checked on the same exact part that they charged me for ($800) was available online with free shipping for just $248. I could not believe this. I have been bambozzled yet again by a company I trusted. Not to mention, the tech recommended that I invest in a new heating and AC system (even though the AC is not broken) and quoted me a estimate of $15,000. Really, for a 14 year old home.

PPLEASE TAKE HEED AND RUN FOR THE HILLS!!! What I now know is, I will have them come out to diagnose the problem and maybe incur the cost of them diagnosing the problem but I will not trust them to complete the work. I will obtain a second estimate and possibly have the correct the problem. These people are horrible and have no conscience for constantly ripping off hard working people.

As a summary: you're going to get price gouged. Find someone else.

First call, technician comes out for a cleaning on a one unit HVAC system and finds a leak. Surprising, but ok. The technician then quotes me a rate approximately five times another outfit for the same work. I doubt this is a case of quality costs more at that multiplier.

Move on to cancelling the service contract. You can't talk directly to the people to cancel the contract. You can only have your message forwarded. It took over a week to hear back, and that was after two follow ups. They'll charge your card while they have you on the phone the first time, though.

I expected to pay out the difference for the cleaning that was done, but apparently the one that was actually done was much more costly than the one advertised on the Haller site.

Our gas water heater stopped working properly so I called Haller to come in and check it out since they previously serviced the units in this house. This is my first house and we've only been here a little over a year, so I'm not very experienced with these things. That inexperience came back to bite me.

They came out and the guy knew right away what the fault was due to the blinking light sequence on the gas valve, and he said he could either repair the faulty part or replace the whole water heater, since it is 16 years old. I don't fault him for offering the full replacement since yeah, it is definitely up there in age. He also wasn't ""selling hard"" either because he said if he replaced the part only, I could very well get a couple more years out of the current unit. But I decided to go for the replacement rather than spend a couple hundred to fix the part and then end up replacing the whole unit in a few years anyway if I'm lucky. As an added bonus he could install the new unit that same day.

Here's the issue: his quote for the full replacement was around $2700, including the water heater and expansion tank, and that was only if I also joined the $10/mo membership service. I ended up agreeing to it because the membership service helps cover regular maintenance and such, and it would have been hundreds of extra dollars if I wasn't a member.

Only after I agreed to it and after he was well into installing the new unit did I come to realize through research that $2700 is an astronomically high price for a new water heater install, even including the expansion tank and removal of the old unit. I approached the technician about the cost while he was getting something from his truck, and asked if there was a less expensive one available. He just said that the unit was the one the company installs and didn't provide any alternative. I didn't know what to do so I just let him finish the job.

It's a shame. Literally all of my friends and family's jaws have dropped when I tell them about it and they all have unanimously told me that's wayyyyyyy more expensive than it should have been - as in, double to triple (!) the price of what the people I talked to paid for theirs. I mean, I'm sure it's a very good water heater but I'm just a regular guy living in a regular townhouse with one other person and I don't need the top of the line. Just something to heat my water up.

I gave this review two stars rather than one because the service was good and the people were professional (particularly with health and safety precautions during these COVID times), and most of all, I take responsibility for being an uninformed consumer. After all, I could have just said no if I wasn't an idiot and if I didn't just jump at the first quote I was given.

I'm sharing my experience so anyone reading this can learn the lesson I learned the hard way: SHOP AROUND. I trusted Haller because they're a big name and I see their trucks around all the time. When they give you a quote - whether it's Haller or anybody - don't agree right away, even if it means another cold shower or two that you have to deal with while you shop around. Just say ""thank you, I'll shop around and get back to you."" It's tempting to fix the issue NOW, but it's always better to compare prices first. If I did that, I may have hundreds if not more than a thousand extra bucks in my pocket right now.

I know that now, but it was a VERY costly lesson to learn.

Hello! My family has used Haller for years. They are the only ones that work on our AC units. I moved out of my parents house about 3 years ago into an older townhouse. This year it was finally time to replace the whole heating and cooling system. I'm part of Haller's One Club program. For less then my car insurance they come out and check my units twice a year and do minor repairs. The technician, (Johnathan) that came out to do the semi-annual check of my units, was extremely helpful and every knowledgeable. He used to do install, so he knew exactly what the sales rep and the installation technicians would need. The sales rep (Eddie) ask several good questions and got me exactly what i needed without overcharging me. Also, great communication between the sales rep and technician. Very impressed by their inter-company communication. My neighbor had to get their's replaced last year and i'm paying less then what they did. They even offered me a window AC unit to hold me over till my instillation date, for free. I didn't want one at first, but after a few days, I changed my mind and they where able to get me one by the end of the day. Lucky they had some window units in stock. While the install hasn't happened, yet, I know it will go smoothly. Haller is the best when it comes to Heating and Cooling in Central PA.

So last night our central air unit that has a heat pump and handles both heating and cooling for our house just stopped cooling. It had been working pretty bad for years, but we were assured by Haller technicians that it was working just fine. It would read 70 in the house and feel more like 85 (very hot). We have likely been bleeding so much in extra money from the electricity we've been wasting in having to run the unit constantly on a very cool setting just to make the house comfortable.

We called to find out how much it would cost to have someone out and were surprised to find out that they were going to charge $80 just to come out, and then a service fee on top of it, plus whatever repairs and parts we'd get charged for. Not wanting to commit to the potential for a huge bill and having to pay them to get it, we called a friend who does HVAC but mostly for businesses. He came out and said our unit was completely out of coolant. COMPLETELY OUT.

I said, ""That's impossible! Haller has been out here every year cleaning and maintaining the thing!"" They had been out just a year and a half prior - a little longer than normal for service - but we had a baby and were too busy to remember. Still..coolant should last for years. So, we're clued in by our friend, that they were likely just topping it off to a bare minimum to make it work and then leaving, and brushing off the fact that is worked like crap. I'm betting the goal was to get us to buy a new system that we didn't need. What a great reward for our loyal business, huh?

The coolant is extremely expensive because they're phasing it out (R22), costing about $90 a pound! We're going to have to pay around $500 to completely fill the unit with coolant now and can't you just imagine how much Haller would have come out and charged us for a problem they caused by not filling the coolant. I would recommend anyone that has their unit serviced by them goes out and makes sure it is actually filled with coolant. Having no coolant can cause the compressor to go and we're lucky as hell that didn't happen. It should be a basic part of maintenance and most customers I'm sure assume they are doing it. For the cost of maintenance ($168) they damn well should be especially when most of the time there is nothing majorly wrong!

At the very least, since in this case the coolant is very expensive, they should have told us, ""Hey. Your coolant is low, but we have to charge you extra to fill it because of this."" It's unbelievable to me that they would be so shady about the whole thing. As if families don't have enough struggle in these trying times. And when the unit ultimately fails from their bad maintenance, they get to come in to 'save the day' and charge you even more!

We called to have our kitchen sink snaked and a plumber came to our house and quoted us $480 - an exorbitant amount for this procedure. We obviously declined, they could have given us the quote over the phone as we told them it needed snaked, but they sent someone out to give us that ridiculous quote. We received a $79. bill today for the absolutely pointless visit. Would give ZERO stars if it was an option.

I have been using Haller for a couple years to service my elderly moms air conditioner for her mobile home and also was on the maintenance plan for $14/month which doubled to $28/month this year. The unit was aging and I had them replace several components over the last 2-3 years costing hundreds of dollars each time. They suggested replacing it with a new unit because they said it's on its last leg.

Recently the neighbor said it was making a noise so I called Haller and they said we were due for a maintenance visit anyway. The technician Braydon showed me a pipe he said was frozen and then said the unit had no charge left and would need over $1000 fix. So I said it's time for a new one and they put me in contact with their sales people who quoted a price of $5300 for an Amana unit or $5800 for a Carrier.

On installation day they called and said they couldn't do the install because the electric hookup wasn't up to code and posed a fire hazard! They offered to repair it for an extra fee. This was SUCH a blessing in disguise!!

I told them I wanted to look for an electrician to fix the ""electrical issue"" and then found out I could get a new unit installed by a contractor that specializes in mobile home HVAC for $3200 or $4000 depending on what type of unit was needed.

In the mean time my brother-in-law said he knew of someone that could do the work and they would come out and give an estimate.

My sister just called and said they checked the unit and it's working fine!!!

HALLER tried to rip us off for over $5K!!

Very disappointed. We called w/ a water leak emergency and gave them the code to get into a vacant property. Somehow this was lost. They never left a voicemail (we admit we should have also checked back) and never got into the property. When we contacted them the next day we discovered they had not been there and rushed out to find extensive water/damage everywhere. We now have to replace alot flooring and clean up a big mess due to their errors and not leaving a simple voice mail telling us they did not get in the house. When we tried to professionally discuss this their responses were uncaring, and cold.
