At the end Day 3 of a job - that was only supposed to take 3 days - not even 1/2 finished. The new panel isn't even labelled - and they sent ""apprentices"" who had to leave early. This is how they left my bedroom walls - *after* I complained.

Halco consistently has had nothing but excuses, from blaming my municipality, to blaming me! Never again.

Very nice people. I have had them do plumbing and heating work at my house. Always on time, very friendly. I like that you can call 24/7 and make an appointment. Prices seem to be good too.

After encountering delays and incompetence with another firm, it was such a relief to have HALCO repair our refrigerator in a timely manner.

The person who fixed our water heater was friendly and competent, the work itself was good. However, the customer service and communication was terrible.
We needed a part ordered to complete the repair. We were told it might take a few days. One week later I called back to check and was told the part was still on order, we would be contacted to schedule the service as soon as the part was received. Another week later I called again, the person I spoke to confused the water heater repair with an unrelated appointment for an air-conditioning estimate. I tried to explain that hot water and air conditioning were not related.
Finally, several days after the second call, my partner (male) called and somehow, miraculously, the part was ""found."" He was told it was a ""communication breakdown"" with the supplier. It was obviously a communication breakdown on Halco's part.
We got no acknowledgement that this was problematic, not even an apology for having to spend 2+ weeks with no hot water.

Update: Halco has contacted me and I'm convinced this was not their usual service. I appreciate their willingness to reach out and try to make things better.

I learned a hard lesson dealing with bargain contractors, found Halco a few years ago, and never looked back. I've found them to be a very trustworthy, reliable company. They offer a membership program with their plumbing unit, which has proven to be a life saver when we needed them. It's a good value, too. Every tech they've sent has been exceedingly professional, competent, and courteous. I really appreciate Halco, and highly recommend! You will get what you pay for with these folks.

When our central air broke, my coworkers recommended Halco. I contacted them via the website, and Kalah was extremely helpful, getting met set up with an appointment and promising to flag my account for follow-up if there was a cancellation. Sure enough, there was, and Steve came out and fixed the AC that day. The whole process took only a few hours, and everyone at Halco I spoke with was great. So glad I took folks' advice and went with them!

Have contracted with Halco for my heating maintenance/repair for close to 20 years. I have found the service technicians to be professional and thorough in their work. If it's troubleshooting to be done, they persevere until a remedy is found.

I purchased a new range oven from Home Depot for $613.00 (delivery included). Because my house uses propane vs. natural gas, I needed the oven hooked up by a certified company who does this work. I called Halco, explained what I need done, and was quoted over the phone by Alexis that the total price to come out and hook up the oven is $179.99, and that the old range will not be hauled away. I agreed, considering the price to be reasonable. When the service man arrived yesterday, he immediately told me that the price to connect the oven will be $340.00 (!). I told him that that's NOT the price I was quoted when I initially called Halco. I called Halco right away, spoke to Alexis, who stated that Halco ""never quotes prices over the phone"", and no one in the company could have given me ANY quote for connecting the range. Being 59 years old, I would have NEVER agreed to Halco's services, having no clue what the cost will be! Because the service man was already here, I VERY reluctantly agreed for him to go ahead & do the job. Once completed, he gave me an itemized bill, where it is stated that the fee just for coming out is $89.00, and oven hook up costs $225.00. Since Alexis quoted a TOTAL fee of $179.00, and yesterday said over the phone that Halco ""NEVER quotes prices over the phone"", Halco expects an educated consumer to pay $89.00 for the service man visit, and only THEN learn what the cost of the job will be???. I KNOW the price quoted to me by Alexis when I first called Halco was a flat fee of $179.99; instead, I wound up paying $340.00, MORE THAN HALF OF THE COST OF THE NEW OVEN & ITS DELIVERY, JUST TO HAVE THE OVEN CONNECTED! If I could give Halco a negative rating, I would!.Consumers beware!

A few years ago, Halco cut a square hole in the sheetrock opposite a shower wall, installed an access panel, and replaced a leaking gasket (actually, it was just a sort of spray foam, rather than a proper rubber gasket; I don't remember who did that work, but it was no surprise that it leaked) where the overflow drain pipe met the back of the tub. The workers did a good job and maintained a reasonably clean work area. I don't recall the exact price for the work, but it was not out of line with what other plumbers charge in the area.

I am taking off two stars because of some attempted upselling midway through the project, after the hole had been cut in the sheetrock, but before any other work had been done. The workers took a look at the pipes in back of the shower, then conferred between themselves for several minutes and got back to us with a very high estimate that included not only the work noted above, but also replacing the gasket under the tub (the primary drain). This gasket was not leaking, but they reasoned that since the overflow drain had been poorly sealed, the primary drain was as well. They would not warranty any of the work unless this was done also.

We declined the extra work, and years later, the work that Halco did remains functional and in good condition. A few months ago, I had reason to check for leaks around the tub, and while I didn't find any involving the plumbing (old caulk turned out to be the culprit), I did see that the primary drain had been properly sealed with a rubber gasket.

So the story we got about how that drain needed a new gasket, because if spray foam had been used to seal the overflow drain, it must also have been used to seal the primary drain, was simply not true. Since it was easy to reach the gasket under the primary drain via the access panel that Halco installed, their workers surely knew this. The upselling was simply that; an attempt to charge more for unnecessary work. That experience detracted from what was otherwise a good job. I would still recommend the company, because they did good work, but would advise that customers ask lots of questions and think hard before signing on the dotted line.

I give this company two stars because overall the job finally ended up completed however this only occurred with multiple phone calls, many complaints, and frequent checking up on. It started with a quote for a two week job. Three months later no one had made contact or come to the house to complete the work that I paid a deposit for up front. I was given excuses that the orders for materials were not placed in time. When the materials finally did arrive it turns out they ordered the wrong sizes and I was forced to wait several more weeks while the correct sizes were shipped. When they finally did arrive to complete the job they sent unprofessional people who argued with each other inside my home, shouted at each other, and made themselves at home by sitting their sweaty selves on my couch. The next set of people they sent to do the work were surly and short tempered, snapping at each other and me. These guys needed babysitting as they did not complete insulation around the windows they installed, they knocked an unnecessary hole through my drywall, and when they were showing off their work and I noticed that the window was loose in the frame they said ""oh, I guess I could fix that if you really wanted me to, I wasn't going to"". Overall, working with this company was an incredibly difficult and frustrating experience and I would not recommend them. One bright spot was Brittany in customer service who was always polite and definitely did her best to solve the problems.
