I am writing this review as a lesson learned...I hope it helps someone H & M Plumbing highlights include - Questionable invoices - Lack of transparency in pricing/scope of work - Complete disregard for the customer's concerns I hired H & M Plumbing to move a heating pipe as part of a larger bathroom renovation. A plumber showed up same day and I was happy. He also had a junior plumber with him, conveniently and immediately costing me twice the man hours...They got right to work without much discussion on pricing/scope of work. After hearing the plumber literally beating the hell out of my heating pipes during the job...2 hours later, and about 10 trips back and forth to their unmarked truck the job is complete. I'm told this job will cost me $1,062...I was completely blindsided by this price-point for a 2 hour job...but I pay up and am happy that the bathroom remodel project is moving forward again. THE NEXT MORNING I enter our secondary bathroom which is just below the pipe H & M had worked on the day before. There is water damage on the wall/ceiling and 2 sqft bubble full of water ready to pop! There was apparently a slow drip all night from the pipe they worked on....I immediately called them back to explain the issue. THE PROBLEM The plumber returns and fixes the leak at no charge, of course. However, after multiple conversations H & M Plumbing would not accept any fault or responsibility for the water damage in my home from the pipe they worked on... After paying a ridiculous amount for the job they day before, I was now left with new problems...Completely poor business practice to offer no help on damage clearly caused by their work. We may have disagreed on who was at fault with the water damage, but the least they could do is be human and work with a paying customer on a compromise. Offering to split the cost for the water damage would have been a good start. I doubt Bill will return my call at this point... Overall experience had me feeling gouged on the pricing, cornered into a high bill, and left with more problems than I started with.

Work: A. Punctuality: B- Called H&M Sunday evening to get on sked for Monday a.m. Bill ended up rescheduling to afternoon and was late for that as well. But he's a small operation (2 people?) so doesn't have the staff to throw at a problem. When Bill did arrive, he was professional, courteous and friendly. He's been in the business for 40+ years. We already knew the problem was a leak in a baseboard heater pipe connection, so it wasn't a complicated diagnosis or fix. He went straight to work, knew his stuff and made the repair. Cost was under $267. ($145/hr.) Seemed reasonable. We'll call H&M again with plumbing issues, but next time will ask them to call us when they're actually on the way to our house.

I highly recommend calling these guys up first before seeking out any other company for your plumbing needs. Long story short, I had a water leak happening in the kitchen that proved to be a pretty big deal. I contacted Anchorage Plumbing and they sent over a grumpy guy who couldn't be bothered to do half the work that H&M did. Turns out the water line to my fridge was sourced from somewhere besides underneath the sink along with the faucet and dishwasher. Anchorage's solution was to install a valve where the leak happened and have me call them back after the restoration company went through and possibly dig up the subfloor. Not quite content with their level of service, I took a shot with H&M. Bill called me back promptly and later that afternoon, he appeared with another tech who got the job done in a couple hours, having rerouted the water line through under the sink. They also installed another valve for our main water line in the utility room. Most impressively, their interactions with myself and each other were extremely pleasant in the midst of a stressful experience. I enjoyed cracking a few jokes with them while they worked diligently. My only issue with them is that I called later on to request a written report on their findings for insurance purposes and they never got back to me. But apart from that, I was as happy with their work as I could possibly be. Don't waste your time and money with any other plumbing company. Give these guys a call first and hopefully you'll end up as satisfied as I was.

They were great! Worked hard to fit me in the day I called and worked really quickly and efficiently to save us money. Very informative and worked with me to make sure our problem was appropriately resolved. Very personable. I have had two other plumbers come to our house before and they do not compare in the slightest. It was refreshing to receive such a great service. Highly recommend!!!

Scene: Anchorage, at a condo building, a few days prior. Tessa notices that the garage is colder than usual. The hallways are a little chillier. Things seem colder, even with the heat turned up; the heat never goes above 68. Tessa erroneously suspects hairy husband is turning the thermostat down while she's not looking. Today, a Sunday, 1:30pm. Outdoor temperatures are below zero. Tessa, plagued with Raynaud phenomenon is beginning to experience numb hands and nose. Tessa's husband is complaining about how cold it is, even though she turned up the heat. The thermostat struggles to reach 65, then drops to 64 and stays there. The cats are cuddling underneath the bed blankets to stay warm. Dramatic music interlude. Condo association emergency line was called and they advised that they weren't sure how busy the heating/plumbing company may be. But, within an hour, a friendly employee from H & M calls to confirm location. 5:15pm, a knock on the door. The aforementioned employee, now known as the Almighty Heating God was there bearing great news that the heat should be up. He explained what had happened (both boilers failed, for two difference reasons) but now was fixed. A glance at the thermostat reads 66. Victory! The temperature is climbing! The Great God departs, and Tessa's feet are shoved under the baseboard, feeling the glorious warmth. Joyful music interlude and consumption of merlot was had. Cats rejoiced and no longer had to resign themselves to forced friendliness to the humans for their warmth and could be snarky, solitary jerkwads on their own. End scene.
