Guy Plumbing & Heating
Company Overview
Guy Plumbing specializes in service for lavatories, faucets, clearing small stoppage drains, identifying water waste & leakage from disposals. Our team is a Rheem authorized installer for traditional water heaters. In addition, we deliver quotes & setups of seismic shut-off valves.
Furthermore, we function as a licensed parts supplier for Grohe.
Back in 1948, in the locality of Menlo Park, David Guy founded his plumbing operation out of his family home on Oakley Ave. With his wife Elvira, he created a base for the family-owned business. A few years later, he was supported by his children Roger, Alan, and Mike, and the Guy Plumbing brand emerged.
Incorporated in 1973, Roger and Alan took over the plumbing service business and were joined by Roger's child David. In 1988, they relocated to its present location at 1265 El Camino Real and opened up a showroom for plumbing.
David's grandson David, along with their partners, run the service and showroom. During 2009, David's great-granddaughter Camille became part of the business, introducing the fourth wave of the Guy legacy.

I had Troy from Guy plumbing out to my house to install a pressure regulator. They gave me a quote over the phone after I e-mailed a photo showing the job was straightforward. This was the first awesome part of the experience. Other plumbers wanted to see the work first, and the end result is the uncomfortable experience of having to tell them to go away so I can get a second quote, rather than just having them do the job right then. I'm sure some plumbers rely on that pressure to get people to agree to higher prices.
The second awesome part of that experience was Troy: He was super nice, and was cool with me watching him work and asking questions. He did great work, and even answered plumbing questions unrelated to the regulator while he worked.
The third awesome part was when, after I questioned the price they put on the invoice for the part itself, they called and confirmed that it had been an error and had been corrected with no hassle. Super pleasant to work with.
Guy is now my go to plumbing company.
My parents always called on Guy Plumbing and always received the best advice and repairs from them. I have hired them for the past 23 years and they've fixed very difficult problems, given advice that saved me time and money and have always been very honest, professional and expert in their work. So that makes me a SECOND generation, very happy customer of Guy Plumbing, but that's nothing -- Guy Plumbing is a FOURTH generation, family owned and operated company that has helped people since 1948! Troy (of Guy Plumbing) came today and once again amazed me with his helpfulness, ability, good humor and efficiency.
We had a leaking pipe in the shower so I called the Guy plumbing. They responded right away and sent someone over within a few hours. Not only did they fix my leaking pipe, they also tightened my shower heads and checked other potential leakages, I am very pleased with their service. Next time when I have a plumbing issue, I know who to call now.
Anne C.Last week I had a toilet badly in need of attention. It had clogged, and when I tried to plunge it myself, it overflowed all over the bathroom. Eww. I've never actually needed to call a plumber before, but I know when I'm out of my depth. So I turned to Yelp.
When I called they picked up right away. I explained the situation and they said they could have someone there within the next two hours. Hallelujah! In truth, a plumber and his helper/trainee arrived in less then an hour (with a phone call first to let me know they were on the way).
Fortunately they didn't even cringe at the disgusting situation in the bathroom, and got right to work. They used an auger to clear the clog, made sure the toilet was all clear, and were in and out in under 15 minutes. They were both polite and professional.
I got the bill in the mail a few days later. It seemed a bit steep to me - $146 for less than 15 minutes of toilet snaking - but I really can't complain. They swiftly rescued my only toilet in its hour of need!
Over the years I have used Guy Plumbing many, many times. They always come out very quickly, usually the same day. The work they have done for me has always been high quality. Everything from toilet repairs to faucet installations to helping me detect a problem with our water line.
I also appreciate the fact that if there is a job they can't do, they simply tell me that on the phone and will often also tell me the best place to go to get the job done. The folks they refer to are of similar high quality, and I trust their recommendations. It's also nice that when you call, you pretty much always get a real person, and that person knows their stuff. No waiting on hold, no callbacks where you have to explain your problem again and again.
I actually can't think of a service business in the Menlo Park area that I would recommend more highly - Guy Plumbing is awesome.
Catharine G.This is my first review I have written, but I was so impressed by the service that Troy provided, I thought it worth signing up to yelp to report it. He did a great job on my faucet repair and was a wealth of knowledge about other miscellaneous plumbing questions I had. On top of that he was super polite, which is always appreciated!
jack w.I was directed to this business by a hardware store that did not have the part I needed. Nice but very small showroom. The pictures are very deceiving. Stood at the counter behind a gentlemen being helped where there where three employees in a space of about 7'x7'. The gentlemen left and I stood there, two more employees came to the counter area, and I stood there. I was never acknowledged or spoke too so I left, never to return. Tradesmen maybe, obviously not business men/women.
Rebecca H.They had a part we needed for our Grohe faucet that nobody else had. It was easy to order online, it was shipped quickly and they sent us lollipops! Fantastic service and great selection. Thanks!
I've only used Guy Plumbing once but they did a great job in about a third of the time and a quarter the cost of another plumbing place in San Mateo that I had called first. The fellow who came out from Guy Plumbing (Troy, I believe) was very friendly, went straight to work, and knew exactly what needed to be done. I was replacing two FlushMate toilet systems. I had called Caccia Plumbing in San Mateo first but the fellow they sent out didn't know what to do, said he didn't have time to do it anyway and wanted to charge $230/hr for three hours - so I sent him packing. Troy at Guy Plumbing was done in about an hour, and charge $140/hr.
They are so courteous, knowledgeable, and honest. You know when you call Guy Plumbing the job is going to get done right the first time!! They fixed our water heater the same day and took great care of everything!
