Trusted Drain Cleaning Experts
Delivering high-quality Sewer Repair, Septic Tank Pumping, and Drain Pumping services for over 40 years in Central Indiana.
Back in 1972, a contractor named Gurney J. Bush took over the old Root-O-Matic Sewer Cleaning Company.
Beginning with a rebranded name, a trio of staff, basic equipment, and a local residential focus, he quickly ventured into commercial, industrial, and municipal markets, investing in modern, sophisticated tools as he progressed.
He was convinced that Gurney J. Bush, Inc. would stand out if maintaining high-quality service was a key focus.
He was spot on!
Today, with a workforce four times its initial size, Gurney J. Bush, Inc. offers round-the-clock service and has state-of-the-art tools for drain cleaning, pipeline cleaning, pumping and transporting, sewer televising, and locating.
Tom, the owner's son, has dedicated more than five years to Gurney Bush.
He manages field operations while also assisting in the office.
John acquired the company in 2013 when Tom joined, and together they have established one of the leading sewer cleaning companies in Indianapolis.

Nine months ago, June 22, 1922, Invoice 124011, Gurney L. Bush responded to a call that our toilet was overflowing when flushed. They removed the toilet and ran a snake as far as they could. I noticed that they had gouged the toilet's wax seal, but did not hang around to ensure it was replaced with a new seal. They were not able to fix the sewer blockage and charged $165. Later the tile grout around the toilet kept turning green and black and finally we observed water coming from the base of the toilet after each flush. When Guerney was notified they stated they warrant work for 30 days, and too much time had elapsed, but they would replace the seal for $115. I pulled the toilet myself and have several photos of the seal that shows the toilet should never have been replaced without replacing the wax seal. They refused to take any responsibility, and worse yet, were not interested in learning one of their techs was doing unacceptable work.
Total pros. Knew what they were doing and didn't try to upsell. Jetted out 55 years of sludge and debris from a cast iron drain pipe below our basement. Did everything from an exterior clean out and had video to demonstrate the before and after. A++++
Handled my sewer back up problem efficiently and expertly. Knew exactly what they were working with in this old house. More than reasonable pricing, too. I won't ever call anyone else.
Jennifer B.I was referred to Gurney Bush from a plumber I trust. I have basement drains not draining/backing up. I called the 24/7 number and received a call back from a tech. I explained the issue and he tried a bunch of ways to say that he probably couldn't fix it, but could try if I wanted and kept quote what I assume he thought were large sums of money. It's an emergency drain call, I know it will be expensive. We went round and round with him never really being helpful. And then, as I got frustrated, he called me Sweetie. Nope. Nope. No. I let him know that no one gets to call my Sweetie and earn my business.
Beware! Do not use this company! We had them out for clogged toilets and a drain line. They determined it was a septic problem and cost us $325 for the septic company to agree that it was an indoor plumbing issue. Then, They poured water right through our floor pipe to collapse
our kitchen ceiling! They refused to pay for the damage! They also pulled toilets to clean the lines, but put them all back wrong. We had to hire a plumber to fix all the toilets. The technician told me how they lie to home warranty companies to make more money. When I pressed them to pay for the damages, they screamed at me and lied about everything. They told me I was lucky that my home warranty paid for the clogged toilets in the first place, so if I pushed it they would claim there were no clogs!
Horrible experienced that ended up costing us a lot of money!
The folks at Gurney Bush were great! They responded quickly and fit me into their busy schedule to unclog my kitchen drain pipe. They took the time to properly evaluate and find the true cause if the issue, and cleaned out years/decades of buildup and blockages, where other companies failed before them. I truly appreciated the attention and care they provided to do the job right. I won't call anyone else in the future. Worth every penny!
Don't attempt to use this company. They don't show up when they say they will, and don't have the common courtesy to call and say they aren't coming. Waiting around for them all day was fun. Pam is the office worker who scheduled the appointment. Not impressed with the lack of any shred of professionalism.
Robin Run ,the retirement community where we live, called them because we had a clogged kitchen drain on June 17th. We were out of town, so I do not know the person who came to try to repair it. We got home, used our kitchen sink, and the drain was backing up in our garage, as it was before we left town. A person came out Monday,july1st,and his drain machine broke, and he could not clean it. He said they needed to put in a camera, which he did not have, and that someone would come back with the camera. Thank goodness for Scott. he came quickly. He seemed very versed in drain cleaning, He was very neat, cleaned up, and worked a while with his drain rooter, after he put a camera in the pipe. He checked the drain before he left to be sure it was working It seems to be working fine, but it has been a major inconvenience and mess for us.I would give Scott a 5 star rating ,but the others , not the best.
Yes this was a bad experience. Worker Jason did not call ahead of time. Then left to ""go get parts"" then never came back. Then called from an out of state number and when we got back in touch he had already moved on to the next house. Will not be using gurney and bush for any future plumbing needs. They need help if you're looking for a job.
Hannah H.While my mom and I spent a whole Saturday sucking up rain and sewer water from three overflowing drains in our basement, I greeted the man with a nice hello. His remark was a harsh ""what time did you call me?"" No professionalism at all. He, then, asked us to go upstairs and turn all the main water units on... this was to drown out a phone call he was making about how he didn't really want to service us. Man up and do your job or don't be in the plumbing industry!
