GARY GUAY GHOSTED ME AND LEFT ME WITH A HUGE MESS in my bathroom, kitchen and laundry and backyard! BEWARE, he may not even be licensed.

In April, 2023, I experienced a sewage back up in my main level (kitchen) bathroom. My usual plumber was out of town so I contacted a secondary plumber I sometime use. He referred me to Gary Guay. Based upon his reference, I contacted Mr. Guay via text message. He responded that he would take care of me and visited my home that evening.
He told me he was licensed and bonded and we discussed pricing. He provided a price range based upon how much work would be necessary. He told me he would camera the drain to locate the blockage. To my knowledge, he never used a camera. Instead he tried to run a snake through the laundry room drain and later pulled the toilet (instead of using the clean out pipe in the basement which I later found out was very highly irregular and inappropriate procedure). He was unable to clear the blockage and promised to return the next day with a different snake. He was unsuccessful and returned again April 24 bringing another person with him to help. He said he had made a ""modification"" to the cable. He didn't stay long saying he had to leave to attend to other clients and would return 4/25.
This is when he notified me that he had gotten his snake cable stuck in the drain. He said his partner would take less pay than usual to help me out. On the 26th he texted me photos of his hand showing an injury and said he had ""snake burned"" the webbing and would need one more day to let it heal.
We discussed possible additional work in my basement (roughing in a bath) and he told me they had a ""great plan for extracting the snake"".
I told him his health was more important and that if he need a couple days to heal or attend to other clients, I could wait. He told me he would come back on the 28th with two mechanical pullers and he would run a camera down as a freebie after to be sure it's all good. On the 28th he said he asked to reschedule to the 29th at 10:30. He arrived around 1:00 pm. That afternoon he told me they would have to ""get a big jackhammer and do the spot of 3' in bathroom."" He said he had an all day job the next 3 days. On 5/2, he said he would ""get the snake removed and toilet back no matter what it takes."" He also said he would throw in a fee ruffin (sp) for my future bathroom. On May 3 they began the jackhammering and said they would return the next day to finish. On 5/4 he canceled the appointment and rescheduled for 5/5.
He came for a short time then said he had to attend to another client. They came back 5/6, didn't complete the job and said he would return 5/7. On 5/ 7 he made an excuse to cancel and said he was sending a contractor named Fidel who was a good friend to give me an estimate for a bath in the basement. At this point he had retrieved his snake and reconnected the pipe. He left the basement with the large hole extending to the laundry room and toilet removed.
May 8, he arranged to meet Fidel at my home at 3:30 pm. He showed up, introduced Fidel and left. Fidel and I spoke at length about possible bath addition. I never heard back from Fidel. 5/14 I texted to inquire about estimate. He requested a ""stick figure drawing"" and budget from me. 5/15 I responded my priority was returning my bathroom and laundry to functioning order. I never received another response despite multiple efforts to reach him. 5/15 I requested Fidel's phone number. I tried to contact him again on 5/20, 5/22, 5/24, 5/30.

The plumber ran the camera and found the root blockage just outside the wall of my home and provided an estimate of nearly $5,000 to repair the damage to my drain. The contractor's estimate to fill the hole was $1,900.
I don't know yet how much it will cost to repair the damage he caused to my walls, floors, and back yard.

""Gary the Plumber"" was very unprofessional.
We set an appointment, confirmed, re-confirmed, then he did not show up.
He asked questions for answers he already knew and were previously texted to him.

Gary was quick, efficient, and transparent about the issues. He is personable and professional, and his prices are great! He even gave us maintenance suggestions so that we don't have the same issue recur. I would definitely recommend his services!

Gary has saved us on more than one occasion and does excellent work. He also doesn't take advantage of an emergency. Super nice and all of his work has held up beautifully.

If I could give this guy a negative rating, I would. First of all, he represents himself as a plumber, but he does not appear to have a license. He did come to our house and ""fixed"" a few simple plumbing issues. It took him a long time and the bill was higher than I expected, but I paid. Within a couple weeks, the things he'd fixed started to fail. He did not respond to my requests for help, until I sent a sharper message saying I wanted my money back. Then he sent me a harsh message denying any responsibility. This guy is a FRAUD. Do not use him under any circumstances.

Unfortunately bad experience. We had hired him to come on a Thursday after rearranging our work day. Rushed home & he canceled/rescheduled last minute. We then rescheduled for Friday, he showed up for a few minutes punched a hole in our wall to do work then said he needed more supplies & would come back at some point the next day. I texted him asking if he could arrive by a certain time or reschedule if not & he then said it would be better for us to find another plumber without any explanation. A frustrating experience to say the least & very unprofessional. A waste of time -- luckily no money out so we can take our business elsewhere without having to file.
