This was my first time attending to use this company. The office was great when booking and accommodate my request. I had reached out a week prior to schedule a simple generator connection. On the date of service I received a call from the tech on site with a quote to connect the generator that we supplied to the portable building we provided as well. I was quoted right at 6,000.00 to simply connect the generator. It was less than 60 ft. No digging, no trenching, no back filling. So if you do the math, that's $ 100.00 a linear ft. To simply connect 4 wires on each end and leave a cord laying on the ground. What they failed to realize is I was having the same exact thing done at 31 other locations the same day at all of the NFL practice facility. The highest quote I received that day was $ 2,000
I shared this with the tech onsite, and he still want to charge the same amount. At that point I assumed it was just a tech trying to take advantage of the situation. So I immediately called the office and requested to speak to a supervisor or manager. The office assured me that someone would reach out. I waited for almost an hour, and had to call the office for a second time. I had the pleasure of speaking to a young lady, I explained the situation and that I was awaiting a call back from a manager or a supervisor, she informed me that she was a supervisor, and even after explaining that 31 other sites across the US were completed the same day, performing the same exact service was for $ 2,000.00 or less. I even told her that I use a national electric company that is one of the most expensive electrican that you can find, and they still came in under the $ 2,000 mark. She informed me that the price is what it is, I requested to speak to the owner or higher power. She informed me once again, that if her tech says it that price, then thats what it is. I politely ask if they would rather lose a customer then discussing the price. I never ask them to match the price, I would of even been ok with per say 3,000 for the simple fact we were trying to meet a dead line. Needless to say, I told them to have a good day.
I reached out to another local very well known electrican with 20 years of experience and was quoted less than 2,000 for same except service. I shared the price I was quoted and we shared a long good laugh. The new electrican said he needed a good laugh today !
I can not speak on there quality of work, because we never made it that far. As far as there pricing, they would only have to do a job a week to stay a float. Very disappointing situation, I truly feel they knew we had deadline to meet, and was truly taking advantage of the situation. I have been a contractor for over 20 years. I have had the pleasure of working with some really great contractors in my time. Unfortunately you run across employees like this that give a industry a bad name. I truly feel if I was able to speak to upper management, that a resolution could of been meet.
We will never know, now.
Please be careful when using this company, I would highly recommend getting multiple quotes. To ensure your not being taken for a ride.
We went to dewinterize our swamp cooler and noted that there was a small crack in a two foot portion of pipe. We ran to the hardware store and noted that the piping was $50 but we lacked the tools to cut it to fit the size needed. Called golden west out and we were quoted $500 to replace the piece of pipe. When asked how a $50 piece of pipe became $500, we were told that the cost includes a plumber coming to the property to ""install"" the piece. We literally just needed an individual with a tool to cut the piece. When asked again how they reached $500 they added that it comes with a warranty as long as the swamp cooler is only serviced with them. We then got a sales pitch for replacing other pieces in the swamp cooler. When all is said and done we received a quote for more than a new swamp cooler. The search for a competent, honest plumber in Denver will continue for us. Please be very careful when accepting quotes from these guys, they're snake oil salesmen first and plumbers second.
After realizing that I was over charged, the company did update the price via my credit card
I am selling my property and a buyer's contingency was that I get the HVAC serviced. I got on the calendar when I needed. Brendan showed up on time and was very friendly. He immediately determined that the ladder he brought was too short (my HVAC is on the roof) and called for backup with a taller ladder. Within a half hour another person showed up with the taller ladder and Brendan proceeded with the 25 point inspection. I got exactly the report I needed for the buyer. Super satisfied.
Pam J.I have had mixed experiences with these guys. While I appreciate having a company who will (with the subscription plan mentioned) provide 24-7 service when needed. I don't appreciate the high prices and continual up-selling. Every call begins with ""how old is your boiler"" and continues to try and sell me a new one. The annual maintenance isn't a complete cleaning and again they spend more time trying to sell me improvements or point out things that might break. Twice I've had to have them come back when I've had a problem. Neither time was my problem resolved in the first visit. The first time it was a fairly complex problem and replacing multiple components everything was good for 2 seasons. Shame on you Golden West. The next time it was a fairly simple issue that should have been caught weeks earlier during that annual maintenance process, the tech miss diagnosed the issue, suggested it was fixed but within hours no heat in one zone again. We pulled out the space heater because it was a holiday weekend and didn't want to be disrupted waiting on incompetent technicians. I had them back the following week and after a ""discounted"" 1300 repair we have heat in all zones again. SHAME ON ME for continuing to trust these incompetent overprice high pressure sales people. I'll be looking for a more technically competent service oriented service provider next season.
Ellen F.Better late than never to the review. We had a water heater go over spring break last year and returned to a flooded basement, every home owner's nightmare. We called Golden a West at midnight and Jason arrived promptly and ready to work. He was kind, and trust worthy. He set the wheels in motion for a new water heater the following morning, which was a Saturday, and set the wheels in motion for water remediation and insurance coverage. The process was seamless and relatively painless. So grateful.
Needless to say, a few months later when we started to have ongoing issues with our central air, we called Golden West. We had had no fewer than three past AC individuals and companies ghost us, unsure of how to fix the problem. This time, Chris and his team came to the rescue. Service was amazing, prompt and customer centered. They got us all fixed up and we felt as though they were reasonable in terms of cost. Chris's team went above and beyond! 6 months later we could not be more pleased with our new water heater, furnace and AC! They are all more efficient and the ongoing service we get from Golden West is impeccable! Would recommend Golden West 100 times over and as said before, we have worked with several heating and cooling companies in Denver!
Jeffrey K.They show up quick and the work quality is solid. They cleaned up nice too. Went to some trouble to get me what I wanted finish-wise.
Now...
Hold on to your wallet, and take notes when they give you the estimates. Do NOT buy the maintenance free water softener - it's a scam. Magnets? Really?!?
Also, all the 5-star reviews for them appear to be written by the same person (check it out).
$2900 for a water heater install with expansion tank became $3200 on the final quote (then down again when I mentioned it).
$1450 for a new bathroom sink/faucet.
Next time I'll look for alternatives.
Kiran J.Full disclosure that no services were preformed by Great West for me but I'm here yelping because my first contact with them left a bad taste in my mouth. They very well may have great technicians and service.
The person answering the phone when I called to schedule a next day appointment was shall we say, combative. I asked a very simple question of whether their service call/trip fee ($89 as of today) is applied or credited toward the estimate given if you decide to do the work. She refused to give me an answer! She kept saying over and over that the technician would give me all that information. And she wasn't very nice about telling me so either. It's a yes or no question, so I took it as a ""no"" and ended up cancelling my appointment.
They may be good, but you cannot get them to show up. I scheduled an appointment, they said it would be better for Saturday. So i moved to that. They called me then and said they are to busy and cannot make it. Any company that cannot honor a commitment does not deserve to have business. I was looking to have a new furnace and ac installed, spending probably $10-$15k, guess they did not need that money.
One of my worst customer service experiences
I had GoldenWest do a repair on the furnace of my rental home a couple of years ago and all went well. Having them come to look at the swamp cooler last week was a huge disappointment and mistake. Anthony tried to ""upsell"" me to create a dedicated circuit for the swamp cooler which I declined. Then told me they needed to move the motor of the swamp cooler and it would cost $800, mostly labor. I couldn't understand how that could add up to $800 as he told me it was almost all labor. The idea made no sense to me as the swamp cooler has been there for a long time with the motor in the same place. I went to the house, did a small adjustment on the pulley and it's working beautifully. Of course they immediately nicked my credit card for the $120 service fee, though I have yet to receive an invoice. I called the office yesterday to share my experience and frustration and talked to Kelly. She said that a manager would call me shortly. Have yet to hear from anyone. I would definitely look elsewhere rather than have GoldenWest do anything at your house.
