Margie S.This company was referred to me by another plumber. Yes that's right. My kitchen drain was clogged and I called them and got an immediate call back. They are wonderful! If you call them ask for WIL. He is prompt, knowledgeable, and very professional. Also they have a great Membership/maintenance program.
Had a drainage issue in our guest restroom but Wil came through to save the day! He was in and out and got the job done.
Two weeks after installation of new plenum, mixing box and ducts, we are still getting some loose insulation blowing through three vents in three rooms onto floor and furniture. They apparently did not make sure the ducts were clean/free of debris before installing. Goettl offered to clean our new ducts. We declined for fear of even greater mess. We appreciated their offer to try to make things right.
One of our can recessed lights in the kitchen had not come on since reduct work was completed. We believed wiring was accidentally disconnected. Goettl sent an electrician who found a loose connector inside a junction box. The only explanation we could imagine it failed is that it got bumped during duct installation. Again we appreciate Goettl making things right.
We have not yet had an independent evaluation of duct integrity (i.e., leaks) and efficiency. We plan to do so before we seek additional bids to add the recommended amount of insulation to the attic.
If you contract with Goettl to replace your ducts in an older house's ceiling, expect considerable dust and loose insulation in your living area. As part of the contract you might request a quote to include full house cleaning immediately after completion of installation. Be prepared...forewarned is forearmed.
Patrick M.If Goettl tries to pull the 'cracked heat exchange / carbon monoxide' tactic on you, get a second opinion.
(CO can be dangerous, so be smart - but don't trust Goettl's word on it)
Our heater is running great and its only 6 years old. Tech says he's getting a carbon monoxide level in the duct of 9ppm and inside the house of 2ppm (even though I watched his detector inside my house for 10 minutes read a level of 0ppm). He said this is super dangerous and we need to get it replaced immediately. He said he suspects its a cracked heat exchanger, so the only option is to replace the whole thing. If we don't, us or our little dog might die.
He calls up his service manager, who agrees with his assessment. Then he passes the phone to his sales guy who offers us 3 options ranging from $10,000 - $12,000. The sales guy is super pushy and after telling him I need to talk it over with my wife, he asks that I go and do that right now while he's on the phone so we can make a decision immediately. I told him to call back later and he made me promise not to turn on the heater. He even lowered the price of the lower tier to $8000 (good thing to remember btw).
Why they're wrong and this is shady:
The tech's detector read CO was 0ppm in the house despite him writing 2ppm on the report. As for the duct reading of 9ppm, CO detectors can trigger false positives with heat (I was told this by multiple Heating/ AC companies I called). Goettl either knows this and is using it to scare people or is so uninformed that they are unknowingly making people get rid of good units for tens of thousands of dollars. Either way, don't trust them.
I bought my own CO detector that can recognize levels of 1ppm (most home alarms only trigger at 20-30ppm). I tested the duct connected to the heating furnace, the flames in the furnace, the vent closest to the furnace, my kitchen, and all got a level of 0ppm. To ensure it was working properly, I tested my kitchen gas stove and got 15ppm, and tested my car exhaust pipe and got 563ppm.
I also hired another HVAC company to come out and they checked with their CO detector and also got 0ppm in the house.
I cancelled my service agreement and will be using a different company. Either Goettl is using scare tactics or they are incompetent, either way I don't want them near my house again.
I also heard their great ads on the radio - so convincing! I called and the friendly operator set me up on the Sadie program. The tech arrived for our heating check, I admitted our system was getting old, but we have it checked twice a year, and just decided to try Goettl. The young man was friendly and seemed to want to be helpful, but he latched on to our system being older, and performed a CO check that turned into a scare tactic with strong encouragement for us to replace our entire system. He turned the heater up to 80 and I went with him up to the furnace in the attic; he took the cover off, held his CO monitor in the fumes over the gas flame and told me anything over 9 is dangerous and we shouldn't sleep in the house. Goettl should tell their technicians that we all have the internet now and we can look up acceptable ranges, and check the validity of all their claims. (see ASHRAE and EPA websites) Other tactics - he called his "manager" who needed to speak to us as a couple about the danger we were in if we didn't buy a new system. My husband works from home, but was busy, and I heard the tech explaining this to his boss, through the vents, and heard the manager's disappointment that he couldn't speak to both of us. The tech then sat at our table to explain the dire situation, and I gave him some facts from the EPA and ASHRAE. He repeatedly said that his own standard is "zero", and even if some amounts are ok, it's not ok to him. My husband listened for a few minutes before shutting down the scare tactics, and asked how much a new system would cost. The tech said we had to speak to his manager to hear the pricing options, and they couldn't email us an estimate. We just replaced a system at another property this summer, all estimates done over email, with no problems. We finally got him to leave, but I had to sign his ipad - a blank page - when I asked what that was, he said it didn't show right now, but I'd get an email soon with the document. I finally get the email and it is an invoice for a cooling tune-up, which did not happen. I really don't know who is behind this company, but it's not the nice looking old guys with mustaches on their ads. They've had complaints in other states for false advertising and the company has changed hands many times. These tactics are dishonest and wasted a lot of my time. I purchased a home CO monitor that has detected zero. A week later, the system was evaluated by Christianson AC, and no CO was noted, our system is in good working order. P.S. - my review says I'm in California (Google?) but I'm in the Austin area! Steer clear!
Joshua came to our house today (11/23/22) as a second opinion to determine if our 8 year old HVAC needs repair or replacement. He was courteous and extremely thorough. He went thru everything, and pulled out his tools to check numerous measurements and not just take for granted what a tech from another company had "found". To my relief, he recommended repair of the existing AC compressor, but replacement was not necessary. Joshua takes his time, but will give you a true picture of what is and is not needed.
Will definitely consider Goettl for HVAC needs in the future.
I'm giving one star for now, because I have the feeling that I don't get it done tomorrow. I'm getting very frustrated with Goettl services. I used their services last summer when my AC broke. The tech fixed it on a timely manner. He did a great job.
Yesterday I used their services again to fix the toilet. They changed the appointment 3 TIMES! Yesterday someone was supposed to come 3-5, had to reschedule to TODAY 11-1, then something came up, postponed til 3-5. He came and took a look at the toilet that is the most affected. I need that toilet fixed ASAP because it's grounded. My friend was going to come over, he can't go up the stairs too much to use another bathroom that is working. He has a walking disability.
I have never been this MAD! Goettl tech came late evening tonight, as I thought he was going to get the job done. I got excited, then I'm disappointed again. Nope! He said first he would come at 9AM the next morning, then at 10 AM.
He should have come to my place first because this might be easy and quick, while he had to deal the most complicated job that took him ALL day today
To the people with the most complicated toilet, thank you for screwing up my day!!!!!
I told my friend not to come until further notice. I'm holding my breath if the tech would not be coming tomorrow or another postponement.
I called another company, they said they would send out someone on FRIDAY!!!
Well, I created a review regarding ALL the issues I had with this company. Immediately, the owner responded for me to contact him to relay all the issues. I did. I get told that he was going to see what they could so. MYSTERIOUSLY, my review is no longer on here AND out messaging thread back and forth is gone after he never responded and never "got back to me" like he was going too. Reading the reviews looks like I'm not close to being the only person who had numerous no shows no calls, took off days from work. BTW, it's chilly outside and my AC is set to 66 right now because of how humid and stuffy it is in my house, with my 12 year old AC. I could keep it at 69 in 110 degree TEXAS heat...but this $11000 one is "more efficient"....smh
Tech came out and diagnosed a bunch of problems and quoted us $9k in repairs but, of course, recommended we replace the entire system for around $19k.
Thankfully we got a second opinion. The tech from the second company came out, diagnosed a single point of failure and made the effort to find out that the part was under warranty; $350 total for the repair. System has been running great since. The tech said he had no idea what the first tech was talking about when I showed him the first quote for repairs and that we definitely shouldn't replace our entire 7 year old system.
Absolutely shameless.
I can't speak to the quality of their work, but before you find out, I'd recommend getting a second opinion to make sure the work they want to do even needs to be done.
Connie S.Had this company come out to give me an estimate of replacing hvac unit. Young man went up in the attic and came back with lots of pictures. Some were mine and not sure about the others. Told it was covered in mold. At least that's what his pictures showed. So anyway after a long time talking and back and forth with him on his phone to the office I was told they have a 5 star tier. 119,ooo.+ -530,ooo.+ I almost fell for this scam. I just couldn't wrap my mind around the cost no matter how I tried. I was told that ac units had increased considerably but REALLY?? Anyway I called and told them "no thhanks, just WAY too expensive. Anyway I received a phone call from Mark (I think that was his name) and he said that could drop it yo 15,000.!!?? We politely declined. We are having a new unit installed today at a much reasonable cost and not abit shady on their sales tactics. Watch out for this company. Read ALL YELP REVIEWS AND BBB!
