Gerald was raised in Houston in the late 1940s, making him a longtime Texan with a family member who died at the Alamo (Jonathan Lindley) and another who fought alongside General Sam Houston at San Jacinto (Hiram Little). Gerald's service includes time with the 593rd Signal Group, 1st Battalion, in Vietnam, and also with the 2nd of the 12th, 1st Air Cavalry, during Vietnam. In 1969, he commenced his career with Gene Welch Plumbing, learning knowledge in home plumbing systems. He spent three years until he earned his journeyman license. He then worked for Freddie Bailey Plumbing, learning about residential repair plumbing for one year. He received his master plumbing license MPL8635. He continued Walter Pickett at John Moore Plumbing, learning expertise in business plumbing.

Gerald has held the position of past president of PluMeCo-Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Council of Harris County. He is the creator and first president of AMP-Associated Master Plumbers of Harris County.
