Jen L.Gillece was one of the worst choices that we ever made. We had a plumbing issue, and with their advertisements, we had Gillece come in to clear our line for what we thought was a deal. Well, they proceeded to tell us how awful our line was (true) and that our entire front yard was like a septic system (absolutely false) and that we needed $20,000+ in repairs (WHAT?!). They also charged us over $2,000 to pressure clean our pipes, which we stupidly agreed to at the time, not knowing that it actually usually only costs around $200-$300 from other plumbers. I'm so thankful that we looked around before having our lines fixed, because we saved (and this is not an exaggeration) $15,000 by finding a different plumber. Do NOT call Gillece. They are liars and thieves.
Just spoke to Gillece and frankly I've never experienced such terrible customer service.
If you don't already know, they've been sued for bad business practices. http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/local/region/plumber-sued-for-cybersquatting-212479/ There are tons of other articles on the whole mess.
Regardless, the secretary was nasty and mean. Oh, we don't do estimates for buyers. Really? How else are we going to get anything done exactly? Tons of other companies do, with far better reputations than Gillece.
Laugh the next time you see the stupid owner on a billboard with a bird on his shoulder.
I will.
My water heater stopped working a couple of days ago. i called Gillece and they came the same day i called. The technician did a troubleshoot and diagnostic that lasted for about 30 mintes. He finally explained that water heaters have a 5-10 yr life expectancy and my tank was 7 yrs old. He then said I needed a new tank. He quotes me $3700, then as a Gold member with Gillece, I can get one for $3400. Then another discount brought it down to $3300. After stating I didnt have that kind of money, his boss offered another $400-$500 off. I told them i'd think about it. The next day, while thinking, I decided to troublshoot myself. The water heater had a coded error message and looking at the manual I figured out the problem: It was the igniter out of place, so I wiggled it around to put it back in ""place"" and the heater worked. Havent had any issues since. Now i wonder how many others may have had services done and paid a lot of uneccessary money. $3000 is a lot of money to be giving away for a new water heater I didnt need. I take responsibility for not trying to troubleshoot myself in the beginning, but I would not recommend this company to anyone because this was truly deceptive on thier part
Damon D.Made the mistake of calling Gillece for a main sewer backup. They did the whole camera thing (After getting obstruction removed), said they could not get it through the drain, supervisor was at our house until 10PM trying to dig up front yard and basement that night. Wanted $7,000 all for a simple backup. Tried scaring us saying we would be shitting in a bucket if we did not fix it. Two years later and the drain is still fine and had a ""Professional"" plumber confirm. Plumber said the job they were trying to do he would do for around $1,000.
Gillece are a bunch of crooks and scammers. Every time I see those fucking commercials I want to punch my TV. Any 5 star review you see online is fake. Please do not use Gillece!
Stay away from this company. They are just BAD!!!! First they won't come when they say...and you won't get the credit they promise. When and if they do show up...they won't be able to fix your problem unless you pay over $6,000.00 for the repair. They said I had a broken pipe in my basement floor and it would be at least $6,000.00 to fix it. This didn't make sense to me...so I paid them for thier time and sent them on thier way. I called another company and all I needeed was to have my main drain snaked out....this charge was only $250.00. Gillece is a total scam....DO NOT EVER USE THEM!!!! We ended up taking them to court and got the money back we paid them.
We woke up to a cold house and found the furnace blowing cold air. We saw a Gillece truck and decided to give them a call about inspecting and possibly repairing the furnace. A repairman arrived shortly after and checked the furnace for a $95 service call. He presented us with a list of options and prices: Repair for $517, Restore for $2300 or Replace which required a visit from the salesman. All options were very vague in terms of what work was actually going to be done. Since we had no idea what a new furnace would cost, we wanted to get estimates.
At 8pm, the salesman arrived and checked the furnace. He found many things wrong with the existing furnace and informed us it wasn't worth repairing. He also told us the coil above the furnace needed to be replaced which ran $850. Unbeknownst to us the coil is for the A/C unit and not related to the furnace!
We started talking numbers and we were told it would run anywhere from $6,300-$9,900 for a new furnace depending on the efficiency. When asked about providing literature regarding this expensive purchase, we were told to look online. After using aggressive scare tactics and offering financing options, he realized he wasn't going to get us to bite. We felt pressured and uncomfortable with the lack of information and just a list of unexplained prices. The salesman wanted to have a team at our house that night to replace the existing furnace. He left advising us that if we changed our minds, we could still get a $500 discount if we called by the following day.
The next day, a local heating company came for a second opinion and to inspect the furnace for an $85 service fee. He showed us the broken igniter that the Gillece guy had already removed and explained that was the problem. The replacement fee was $36 for a grand total of $132 to fix the furnace! The local guy estimated a new furnace would run $3,000 which coincides with the research we did online.
I would not go by Gillece's word. At the very least, they were attempting to overcharge us for a simple repair and tried to scare us into buying a new furnace and coil that was not related to the problem at hand. I'm glad we learned the hard way for the cost of a $95 service fee instead of thousands for a furnace we didn't need yet! They were aggressive and rude. Don't let their urgency and pushy attitude influence you into buying or overpaying. I wouldn't recommend Gillece to anyone!!
Chuck G.I had a similar experience with Gillece. Our water supply line also needed replaced last winter, a guy from Gillece showed up and gave us some ridiculous price, I saved more than 1/2 by going to another plumber.
Look at the BBB web page for Pittsburgh, that will tell you the stuff you need to know about Gillece.
edit: Oh and I just looked up the channel 4 investigation of Gillece, very good info.
Good luck folks
Chuck
Ok, the guy who wrote the review is a wise man that he did not get suckered into their overinflated quotes.
Please checkout the following channel 4 investigation on them: http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/24762402/detail.html
I had a similar experience in that they came to give me a quote on replacing a water supply line and they ended up quoting me over $9,000.00 for a job that ended up costing me $3900.00.
Buyer beware all!
I've been meaning to write this review for a long time- and am happy to finally get around to it. As a new homeowner in the Pittsburgh area, I didn't really have a heating/plumbing service that I knew- so I fell for the constant advertising of Gillece. I had them come out and service my boiler right before the winter (September timeframe).
After the preventative maintenance, the second time I turned the boiler on- it crapped out (which happened to coincide on a day that I was home from work, sick with the flu). I called Gillece to come out to service it- and then things went downhill quickly. They identified that my boiler was not fixable for less than $6,000, and that it would require a MINIMUM of $11,000 for a new boiler- but that to get a proper boiler, it would cost at least $20,000. When considering the fact that I live in a 1,200 square foot home- this was entirely out of line- a new boiler shouldn't cost me any more than (at the absolute maximum) $6,000. So, I told them I would have to think about it, and called a local handyman. The end result of his review was that the transformer was blown- and 15-minutes and $75 later, my boiler was up and running, and has been ever since.
My guess is that Gillece can finance their constant ad campaigns by ripping off uninformed/underinformed consumers, particularly the young (yours truly) and elderly. The sales job they tried on their boiler system was criminal- and in my opinion, this company should be avoided at ALL costs.
Very poor experience. Clogged drained. Paid $100, nothing was fixed. Said supervisor had to come out with camera to find issue - would call in about and hour - 3 hours later no call. Father and neighbor fixed by running hose line through main sewer line - Gillece was saying my pipes would need to be dug up - est $3800-$5200 per day. Ridiculous. I've never blogged before in my life but I don't want others being taken advantage of like this - so very unfair. Since have heard horror stories about this company. Please pass along to others.
