I have called upon Genteel Plumbers four times in the last several years for both big and small problems at our house and each time the service has been quick, efficient, and correct. The plumbers are both knowledgeable and personable, the pricing transparent, and the customer service first rate. I also appreciate the follow up after each visit. We've used many different plumbing companies in times past but are happy to state that our searching days are now over. Genteel is our first choice hands down.

On Saturday afternoon, I went downstairs to discover that water was pouring out of the bottom of my water heater and steam from the top. It was saying in no uncertain terms that it was time to retire. I called Genteel and Daniel and Conner came within the hour. They checked everything out, explained what the situation was and within two hours I had a brand new water heater. They even returned the next day at no extra charge to put earthquake straps on it. They were great and they didn't even complain about all the cobwebs that were down there.

Something else I liked a lot was that their office sent me emails and texts letting me know when my appointment was and when they were on the way.
These also included a picture of Daniel so I would know that they were who they said they were. Perhaps others are doing this now, but this was my first experience with it and I think that it is great.

I highly recommend them.

I have called these guys a few times now because my apartment has weird pipes that get clogged a lot. They are always very friendly, polite, and efficient. They are also good about walking you through various options that could solve the problem you have, and the different prices associated with it. Last time I called, I had to leave within 15 minutes of them arriving, and they handled the issue and were out of there in 10.

Great plumbers. I will always call them when I need any plumbing done.

Used Genteel a few years ago and they were great. Had a bad clog in the shower that we couldn't clear in our own so called up Genteel again for their promptness and skill. They showed up quick and got the issue solved efficiently and cleaned up after. Always recommend them for plumbing issues

BEWARE of PRICE GOUGING:
- Genteel charged $90 for an estimate - pretty sure they do this to get consumers to accept the cost of their actual services
- The estimate was 10x higher ($1800 more) than another trustworthy plumber's work to both diagnose and fix the problem (condo owner in building knows good work)
- Their ""customer service"" immediately called me up and tried to explain that what they were doing was legit. When I challenged it, they used name calling and intimidation.
- Read other people's reviews, there's a pattern: they have a deliberate strategy of recommending the most exhaustive ""specialized"" work for the highest cost, usually at multiples of other plumbers

This is NOT commentary on the actual plumbing work / services they provide, rather insight into an intentional business and pricing strategy.

Last week, Genteel did an estimate of a clogged drain (just the estimate cost $90 btw). The estimate was $2000 to $2500 to do extensive work, but that could also ""be done in an hour"". I told them no.

We called up a trusted contractor and had it done for $195. That's literally 90% less (in this case $1800 less) and the plumbers fixed the problem!!!

For additional context, the son of a condo owner in our building owns and manages other properties in San Francisco and knows what work needs to be done and good work looks like. The other plumber not only fixed the problem but also ran a camera through our pipes to do a more exhaustive diagnosis of our plumbing system. DON'T listen to any non-sense from Genteel about how they tried to rip us off.

This was so egregious, it honestly felt like a scam - the company was clearly trying to get as much money out of us as possible.

We discovered a water mark on our kitchen ceiling. We had a contractor friend dig around to investigate. After cutting a few holes in the drywall - the culprit turned out to be a screw in our supply line (from when the house was remodeled before we bought it). The slow leak all of a sudden turned into a fast leak when the screw rusted out. We quickly turned off the water. So here we are on a sunny Saturday in SF, and we have no water. Ugh.

My husband called 8 plumbers. One responded and said he could come on Monday. Not good.

Then Genteel Plumbers called back. Yay!! David and Jerwyn came over, assessed the situation, went to the supply store to get the correct pipe, and then saved the day. They soldered the pipe, tested it out, soldered some more, and tested it out until it was 100% fixed. It was in a tight spot too - not a problem for these two.

They were awesome!! Friendly, professional, efficient - total pros. Good guys and fun to talk with as well. Would use them again in a heartbeat. 5 stars and beyond!
