Gene called to apologize for not showing up.. He said he was very sorry and I believe him. I believe he is probably a good guy and judging by his other reviews here it appears he does good work He just screwed up on the day he didn't show up. We all make mistakes occasionally. All is forgiven.

So I just bought a place in the desert and needed a plumber to troubleshoot my hot water issues and didn't want to get ripped off, so I went to good ole Yelp to see who is a good, legit plumber. Gene came up first. I read the reviews and gave him a call first thing in the AM. Gene came out exactly when he said he would and did a lot of troubleshooting to find the problem. He fixed the problem, the price was reasonable and then I even gave him an additional job for installing a water filter system. Gene is definitely a guy worth writing a Yelp review for because he is one of the few good ""independent"" guys left out there.

I took a chance seeing the $50 deal for $25. When I called, Gene answered and offered to come within 2 hours, which was really great as I was in a hurry to reconnect a vent tube that had fallen off the water heater and the gas company turned the water heater off! No hot water until fixed! My impression on the phone was that he was pricey quoting $110 for labor per hour & $20 for travel. But I was desperate so I said come on over. He turned out to be very friendly and efficient. He had to add a new elbow part as the original vent was defective & too short to begin with. Then he helped me (for free he made clear he is not an appliance person) to replace & connect water valves on my washer that had been sitting around for months. He even checked to make sure lines was secure & no leaks before he left. I told him at the end that I wanted to use the $50 coupon. He was fine with that and when I told him I intended to Yelp afterwards, he gave me an additional discount. I think the discount was in part due to how fast he had accomplished everything. So $75 out the door total, the safety issue resolved AND now my washing machine runs hot water! Perfect!

Seriously! If you are checking reviews on Yelp trying to decide on a plumber to call....stop! Just do yourself a big favor and call Gene Phillips! Gene is the best! The most knowledgable, skilled, thorough and HONEST contractor we have ever found. Of course we are hoping that we don't ever have plumbing problems again.....but if we do, we wouldn't call anyone but Gene!

We had a problem with our shower, first plumber we called never showed! Called Gene Phillips, listen to my problem, said he would call me at a certain time and he was prompt with call back. Showed up on time, was friendly, very efficient. No mess no fuss, he was great and very professional. Very satisfied customer!! Won't hesitate to use again.

Had a leak in the wall behind the bathroom. Had 2 other plumbers come out and could not find the leak.
Called Gene who was very busy came bye to check and find the leak in 10 minutes. He set a time to finish everything and fix another problem with a toilet.So happy I found a wonderful plumber in Palm Desert. Great Job!
