I needed a new food disposal system but wasn't sure which one to choose. I spoke with Dave over the phone and he was FANTASTIC! He was patient and answered all of my questions and provided excellent advice. I ended up with the perfect disposal at the perfect price. He sent Aaron out two days after we spoke and Aaron installed it in less than an hour. Aaron arrived on time and with everything he needed to remove my old disposal and install the new one. He was very polite and was patient in showing me how to work my new machine and answered all of my questions. I was really impressed with how easy and quickly this process was from start to finish. I HIGHLY recommend GEM Plumbing (140 East Montecito Sierra Madre) and will ABSOLUTELY use this company again.

GEM Plumbing gets ONE star because zero cannot be selected.

I called this company to get an estimate to fix a water line. I specifically asked if the estimate was free; the lady said yes. I schedule the estimate.

Two persons came out, spent 15 minutes looking around to see what was causing the problem. I was with them the entire time as they checked out the problem. They told me what they thought it would take to fix the problem. I said okay and would get back to them, after I talked with the other plumbers that I had scheduled.

Two days later I got a bill from GEM Plumbing for 1.5 hours of service. Now, keep in mind, GEM Plumbing did not fix the problem, they only checked out the problem; and for only 15 minutes.

I called GEM Plumbing about the bill. I started out talking with the lady that answered the phone, then she transferred me to a person that said he was the owner, David Peedroza. David then said their company did not agree to a free estimate and no one in his office would have agreed to a free estimate, because he would have been the one to do the estimate.

After going back and forth with him, he offered to take one half hour off the bill and then he hung-up the phone on me. I called back to tell him how rude and unprofessional; and I will not use his company again.

Based on my experience, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Gem Plumbing has again earned my five stars. Responding to our last-minute emergency, Gem accelerated their response in an attempt to help us, dispatching ""Chris"" who arrived as promised. Chris diagnosed our problem, quickly acquired the needed parts, and repaired our system with obvious professional competence and uncommon personal courtesy. Gem's prompt and effective response justified their seemingly reasonable price.

Since I have been living in Sierra Madre for decades, I have used this company for plumbing and AC repairs; which I thought was pretty decent job then. However, realized after spending thousands of dollars ( they are not cheap for sure!) over these many years, I realized they really didn't fix the problems but did haphazard job on these repairs. Every year it seems that I call them to fix the same problem over and over; until after one major job done to the main sewer drain by another company, it was found that those many ""repairs"" by GEM Plumbing were all ""Band-Aids"" that contributed more to the problem. After spending 7K to repair the cracked mainline from the house to the general line; my chronic plumbing and drain problems never reoccur ever again, its been 3 straight years of clog-free drain; finally fixed by another company. Since this revelation; I never dare call GEM plumbing at all! They don't deserve even a single star!

When the owners have come out to do the work, it's been okay, but their regular workers are horrible and make things worse than before they started. I had a bad leak in one of my faucets, the worker who came out told me I needed a new sink, new faucet among other things. He said he could fix the leak temporarily, but he didn't. He was here for at least an hour. He called his office, but the owner couldn't find our file even though we have been customers for several years. The workers always try to upsell, but can't even get the basic job done.
We called another local company, and their plumber came here and fixed the leak within 20 minutes.

Gem saved us from a heat wave! It was 102 degrees and our A/C wasn't working. I called Gem at 6:30 PM hoping to get an appointment for the following day. The guy happened to be in the area and came right over! He was here in like 5 minutes! He knew exactly what was wrong, had the replacement part in his truck, and we had A/C within half an hour. This is the best service I've ever had from a repair company!

Experts in difficult jobs. They had to fix the sewage pipes of my 1911 home. The pipes were corroding and crumbling. Some things were done poorly by past plumbers and they brought everything up to code. In addition, they had to work amid a contentious relationship between my soon to be ex-spouse and myself to coordinate the repairs, which was, to understate, extremely difficult. But they listened carefully, were empathetic, and responded courteously and professionally throughout. Chris and Esteban are intelligent, friendly, respectful, trustworthy, expert technicians. They are respectful to women and are not condescending or patronizing in any way. I could leave them alone in my house or observe their work; both with ease. If there wer fixes that have been miscommunicated (which often can happen with large involved jobs), they don't stop until their customers are happily satisfied. With the replacement if our kitchen faucet, Dave went out of his way to make sure I was completely satisfied. The parts came in very quickly. They also respond to customers quickly by phone and showed up on time to scheduled appointments. Their prices are fair and reasonable. Highly recommend for little to big jobs. Definitely worth keeping their number on your speed dial!
