Founded by Mr. Gemma, Gem Plumbing & Heating is a family-run company located in the heart of Lincoln, RI. With his partner Gloria Gemma, Larry launched operating from the garage at home, featuring just one truck to offer heating and plumbing solutions to his clients. In addition to raising their nine children, Gloria coordinated plumbing calls for Larry from the house. The year 1982, after finishing college, Larry, Leonard, and Edward Gemma, along with brother Anthony Gemma, steered the company in a different direction. Adopting a vision to offer authentic emergency plumbing services 24/7, each son acquired a truck and partnered with their father to broaden plumbing services throughout the community. During 1997, Gem Plumbing & Heating increased its workforce to over 40 employees while fostering a large customer base in the service sector and embarking on larger construction jobs.

Paid Gem over $4,000 to install a hybrid 50 gallon water heater, mop sink and water line to fridge and this is what I got: water was shut off for weeks waiting for installation to be completed; plumbers left trash (dumped someone else's broken water heater in our garage, left out old water heater in our basement); had to call several times to get heater installation completed finished; water does not run out of mop sink faucets, when you flush toilets upstairs the waste comes into mop sink via it's drain, no permits were ever pulled and even though they have sent a new Gem plumber out to the check everything and he told us the entire installation was wrong and needed to be redone, they refuse to fix it. This charade has been going on for two months.

Buyer beware.

Total FAIL!

My garbage disposal died on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. VERY hard to clean up the kitchen w/o disposal. I called on Friday and was given an appt for Monday. The best they could do is promise a call 30 minutes in advance. So I went to work and waited for a call. NO call until 4pm and that was to tell me that they had lots of emergency calls (go figure after a holiday weekend) and they wanted ti push me until the next day..not specific time..no appointment. Why should I except they would show up?? So I said no, I want them to come today and he said it would be late...like 8pm. I said fine. NO SHOW.

I called at 9pm and they said ""oh it looks like they called and you are rescheduled for tomorrow.. another ""we will get there when we get there appointment"" WTH?? No thanks!!

I waited over 24 hours for a service call, after taking a day out of work to wait for them to come. I could not be more dissatisfied with their service. Don't wait your time or money on this company.

Terrible. Call someone else. We had a small leak in a pipe. Called them at 7am for a service call. They told me it wouldn't be until the end of the day. When the technician called at 5:10pm, he informed me that ""he didn't have the part I needed on his truck"" and he would tell dispatch and that they would call me back on a time the next day that someone would come. Really???? After waiting all day for them that's the answer I get? oh, and they never called me back on a time for the next day. When I called them back AGAIN they said they would try to come the next day but said to call them again in the am for a time. No thanks. Calling someone else. Don't waste your time with Gem. Oh- and they're overpriced.

This summer I coordinated the much needed conversion of my sister in laws home from oil to gas heat. We had the old tank removed by her oil company and I called GEM among other contractors, for estimates. The GEM salesman Matt, arrived on time, was knowledgable, explained in detail what would be done, accommodated our request to plan some gas ""t's"" for future items such as a gas dryer, and generated a complete, competitive estimate on the spot.

Over the course of the next week or two we received estimates from two other reputable companies in our area, but GEM was the only company to address everything we would need up front. Better yet, they do almost all of the work, including sheet metal, on site. Others left me with the feeling it would be a drawn out ordeal, were vague in their estimate write ups, and their pricing not as competitive. One gave us a price for the furnace install, but told us we'd have to call another company to get the quote for the gas piping needed in the house.

I was a little worried about GEM being R.I. based and the job being in our town in Marlborough,MA., but checked with my town and found they are fully licensed for all aspects of the job. So we went with GEM.

We could not have been more pleased with all. There is a lot of orchestration that goes into the job; obtain permits; install gas line; form the sheet metal; install the unit; wire the unit; await the city gas inspector; remove the test device after the gas inspector. Gem took care of all of this. They arrived around 9am on the day they were supposed to and the job was complete by around 3:30 the same day. They even helped prepare a rebate form. All we had to do was call nStar to install the gas meter. No hassles, no surprises. What more could we ask for?
Everyone we dealt with at GEM were professional and nice to deal with. I would definitely recommend GEM. Nice job!

I left work early to make sure I was home for 2-6pm window in which GEM was supposed to show up to fix my furnace. I got a call at 550 pm stating the technician was running a little late which was fine ..... 10 minutes later I got a call from the technician stating that he would not make it until 9pm. I have a family and can't stay up that late . I called the office to reschedule and they told me they couldn't come out until exactly a week later. They also told me that they would try to make it before 7 pm next time...really? I find that to be unacceptable.

This company was used to install my solar panels in MA and the crew was great. The lead electrician/head manager was very helpful and on time. All the workers were polite and cleaned up after the job everyday. Anytime I had questions, all the workers spent the time to answer them. The company contact person was always helpful and returned my calls. I would use them for future jobs.

I called Home Depot when my hot water heater started to leak. I called on a Sunday night and was told by Gem that Tuesday was available. ""If you don't hear from us by 10am call us"". I called at 10:30 and was told after 2pm. I called at 3pm for a status and was told it could be anytime before 6pm! 4pm rolls around and I receive a call from Gem telling me the technician had to go to the hospital! Goodbye to Gem!

I have used Gem serveral times for various levels of service. I find them consistent and professional. I certainly would recomend them anytime you are doing a ""big"" job, but they are also very good for routine maintenance. We are VIP members and find this a useful service.
