Created by Larry Gemma, our company is a family-owned business located in Lincoln, RI. Together with his partner Gloria Gemma, Larry launched operating from their home garage, using just a single vehicle to provide plumbing and heating work to local customers. While caring for their large family, Gloria coordinated plumbing calls for Larry from the house. The year 1982, after graduating, Larry, his brother Leonard, and Edward Gemma, along with their brother Anthony Gemma, guided the company in a fresh path. With a vision to offer genuine emergency plumbing services 24/7, each son acquired a service truck and partnered with their father to broaden plumbing services throughout the community. In 1997, Gem Plumbing & Heating expanded its team to more than 40 staff members while continuing a broad customer base in the service sector and embarking on larger construction jobs.

We used GEM to put in a new water heater. Not only was it high in cost (parts and labor), but a year later when we found out that it was leaking we were told that we were out of warranty and it would be over $200 to simply look at what was wrong. We called another plumber who let us know that GEM NEVER PUT IN AN EXPANSION TANK!! (which is required by code). They told us we were all set, when in reality they charged us for something they never did. When calling them to ask why, they simply stated ""they would call us back."" We have called multiple times getting that answer with no call back.

Gem Plumbing
The force hot air furnace was over 20 years old; the hot water heater was over 10 years old and the AC unit never worked properly. I knew it was time to replace all the mechanical equipment.

As a homeowner, I needed to do some research. Trane or Carrier, who shall I contact? Many HVAC installers do not have a full complement of trade services. After, several ""free"" inspections.

I contacted Gem Plumbing. Josh, the estimator arrived the next day, on time.
I was impressed the time he took to accurately review the mechanicals. I was looking for a cost savings complete HVAC package and hot water heater. Josh and I spent over an hour reviewing proper HVAC mechanical packages. We reviewed Carrier numerous costs saving rebates, over $3,500. Agreed on the proposal. Again, It was a very informative meeting.

Installation Process
The HVAC installers, Omar, Richard, electrician and plumbing installers arrived on time.
The first day at 19F, Omar and Richard ensure the new Carrier furnace was installed.
The second day, Omar and Richard installed the Carrier heat pump.
The third day, the hot water heater was installed.
Could not have gone any smoother. Impressive

Rebates
The main office emailed me the rebate forms. Josh contacted me to assist me the required rebate information. We completed the online form over the phone. Within 5 days the rebate was deposited in to my account.

Town Permits-Follow up
Yes, a step not skip. Gem Plumbing contact me with an appointment to meet the Town inspector(s). Vincent from Gem Plumbing arrived early to meet the inspectors. Due to replacing all mechanicals, including plumbing it took some time. Passed

The process was smooth and no issues. Gem Plumbing HVAC group were very professional.

All I see are commercials for GEM that sound so positive about this business, please look at the reviews. they don't deserve 1 star, but you cant rate any lower on here. this company should go out of business for the way they treat customers,lying, over charging, refusing to install factory warranties . PLEASE READ THESE COMMENTS ABOUT GEM AND DONT EVEN ASK FOR A QUOTE, THEY WILL CHARGE YOU ALOT AND JUST DONT CARE.!

Unprofessional condescending maliciously compliant gaslighting technicians focused on up selling unnecessary work and annual memberships. I've had multiple service requests with dispatch fees where the main issue was not addressed or failed within a week or caused another issue within the system. I have had to replace drywall, repair, and repaint the walls around the system, because they have a handyman service who can fix it for a fee. Gaslighting from the gas repair man is ironic frustrating. The last service was man-splaining how a switch has an off position and an on position. How someone else could have messed up the system they installed. When called out , the technician just smirked and resorted to corporate speak ""what could I have done differently for this visit?"" You could own the work done and clean up you mess. They refused to answer or acknowledge the mess. GEM is not worth the money the work is mostly done by younger individuals while the older ones walk around and write reports to cover their @$$es.

They came out and deemed my boiler unsafe due to carbon monoxide levels. While I completely understand that legally they might have to do that, THEY NEVER TOLD ME THEY WERE SHUTTING THE HEAT OFF. We only found out when my family was cold and the heat wasn't working. When I called GEM they said they wouldn't turn it back on, ""sorry, the techs should have told you"", and to call the fire department. Also, They were $7k higher than other quotes, and after talking to other HVAC companies without mentioning the name of the company that gave me the quote, they all said ""That's definitely GEM, they're known to do that.""

Let's start of by saying I feel disrespected crazy part is I don't know if it's because I'm a woman or a minority called gem to come out to my home yesterday because my heat just stopped working And I didn't know what the issue was I told it would be $200 just to come on and see what the issue is I was told by two of the gentlemen that came that it was my boiler and it was letting out Carbon dioxide so they shut of the boiler and hot water turns out that was not the issue had someone come out today and give me a second opinion, lo because gem was tell me it would be $10,0000+ since I need a new boiler that was a lie I did not need a new boiler it was my thermostat that was bad then, this morning I received a text from gem themselves telling me let's start the paperwork for a new boiler they can still lock me in with the price they gave me yesterday like wtf really crazy money dose not grow on trees and on top they wanted me to finance the boiler it tryed to make it seem like the where looking out for me yeah no they was not they was looking out for themselves I will never use them again since this is how they do business so if your a woman or minority plz watch out cuz you will get played by them and on top the guys never checked anything out in my basement they just turned stuff off and chilled there for a few minutes so I paid $199 for nothing just to give my money away smh

I've had Gem out to my house at least 5 times over the past few months for the same issue, today when I called I told the woman who answered that I wasn't paying the service fee again as it's the same issue. The technician came and he was great it's not him but when he goes to check me out he says he can't wave that fee so I call the office. They gave me a team leader who decided that she knew better than the technician and told me it's my fault because sludge is causing the water to leak in my laundry room and cause a flood for the sixth time within a few months after I've spent thousands on different things they have recommended and also proceeded to tell me I need a filtration system that she can get me an appointment for a free estimate. I said the six technicians that have come out never recommended that and she said well I'm not a technician I'm reading through your notes and this is what I recommend. I asked the technician who was standing in front of me and he said no he doesn't recommend that. So again I had to pay another service fee on top of them fixing the same issue again. Stay away they are sales based and will try to sell you on things you don't need im finding a new plumber who guarantees his work

I had GEM come to fix an old fluorescent light in a small room with a low ceiling. The technician suggested replacing the old fluorescent with an LED light but DID NOT TELL me it would be MUCH BRIGHTER than the original. When I expressed concern that the first LED fixture he suggested (which had one LED tube) might not be bright enough, he did NOT inform me of the vast difference between LED and fluorescent brightness. He installed a high white 5200 lumens light. I had Gem come out again to fix the super-bright light- either to add a dimmer or replace it. I paid the $99 showing-up fee to learn it would cost me $843 to replace the light because the new light installed has no dimming capability. Also, because GEM purchased the new fixture, I cannot return it myself for a dimmable fixture for a reasonably priced electrician to install. So I am stuck with bad lighting or pay $843. Since this was my first LED light fixture I unfortunately relied on GEM to install suitable lighting. I thought I was paying a high price for excellent service. Alas no. High Price. Bad Installation.
