I have a sewer pipe that runs through our front yard with lots of vegetation and trees, so the pipe gets clogged a lot. Previously I used a friends snake to clear it up but this time was especially difficult and after two days of trying to do it myself I called Gateway based on the reviews I read here. Saturday morning I called around 9:30 and talked to Daniel who said he could come at 11am. We discussed price and he does provide a warranty for his work.

He came to my house early around 10:45 and had the snake ready to go. I showed him the clean out pipe and warned him that sometimes the snake will go the wrong way since there is a bend at the connector. This prompted him to get the snake camera and he verified the snake was going the correct direction. Not surprisingly we saw lots of roots in the pipe. After about 10 minutes of working the snake he pulled it out and the root cause was revealed, literally.

Obviously it depends on who actually does the work, but the man who worked on my home wasn't qualified. His copper work was shoddy and he manners horrendous. He was unreliable. I had to fire him and hire someone else to tear out his work and start over.

I was adding a sink to a WC and a toilet to a half bath. I also needed a new valve for a shower.The job was fairly routine and Gateway was actually recommended by my carpenter. Three men showed up and the one who seemed to know what he was doing turned out to be a sub-contracter who was kicking in during a busy time. I wish he had stuck with the job, but after the first day, which went fairly smoothly, he never came back.

After the second day of work he didn't even show up, and when he did come to do a few hours of work here and there I was very nervous. The shower was crooked and off center, the pipes in the basement were spagetti, and he even burned a hole in my carpenter's pneumatic hose. Then actually tried to tape it to repair it. I really lost respect when I heard him cursing his helper who clearly wasn't the problem. The guy was a mess.

Soon enough, I had to stop him He had gotten more than half of the money and wasn't about to pay it back so I just said goodbye and hired someone else to redo the work. I lost 10 days on a 4 week job, plus a few thousand dollars. Ouch. At least he eventually bought the carpenter a new hose.

An emergency situation arose. Tenant's sink was backing up and unknowingly to us, the landlord, they poorly installed a rusty old kitchen faucet, letting water leak into the cabinet below. Shut off valves were leaking too. Bad things come in threes, yes?

Made an appointment with Daniel. He and Jose came, divided, and conquered. We decided on a combo of snaking and jet propulsion water for the drain and they worked fast to clear the clog and check the pipes with a snake camera, reminiscent of surgeons checking patients' arteries. And Daniel correctly installed the new faucet with supply lines and replaced the shut off valves. The price for the whole job was reasonable.

A sigh of relief. I will call them again for other plumbing needs and highly recommend them. Thanks.

I LOVE THIS GUY! We've used Daniel for many years now, from fixing plumbing problems, to installing a new toilet and sink. Before finding Daniel we had been royally ripped off by a few other big name plumbers. I'm so happy to have found Daniel. Great job. Arrived quickly, quoted a price, worked with no chit chat, fixed all my issues, even the ones I'd forgotten when I called. Kitchen sink pipe replaced & extra gaskets replaced, pipes repositioned as I guess they were wrong, bathroom sink problem I'd had for 15 years was fixed instantly, new faucet I'd bought ages ago was replaced, slow drainage I'd been having was fixed with a snake. Totally 5 star. Daniel and his helper made what another plumber said was a HUGE and VERY EXPENSIVE job simple and straight forward. The other guy had a big scenario of ripping out ceilings, and cutting this and that for over $3K, and Daniel came in and saw the smart simple way to do the job,for $800. He did it quickly, with no fuss, some muss, and a good attitude.
We had him back for another job which looked horrible to me and he solved right then and there by snaking a long line. Cheerful, reasonably on time, willing to work with me to find the easy smart solution, and reasonably priced.

I have used Gateway Rooter a number of times over the last few years and have had very good experiences each time.

Daniel is super chill and gets the work done. I've never felt stiffed or price gouged, he charges very reasonable rates and gets the work done on time.

My last project for him was the biggest. I had been having problems with my basement studio flooding each time there was a decent storm in San Francisco and although he had been snaking my drains, and he even rebuilt one of them, the water was leaking in from the basement door sill and other places.

I had been calling contractors to my house to fix the problem and each contractor had different ideas on how to fix the problems. One contractor even said it could cost up to $50k to replace the back wall of my house since he thought the problem could be caused dry rot. OMG, that scared the hell out of me.

I called Daniel to come out and see if he had any ideas about why my basement studio was flooding and we decided that the problem was 2 fold:

1) The upper level outdoor drain needed to be enlarged so that all the water could drain out since the current drain was pretty small.

2) Most likely the leaking issue over my door sill in the basement studio was happening because the gutters had never been cleaned and the rain was running down the side of my house instead of draining down the gutter drains.

Once he enlarged the upper outdoor drain and replaced the gutter and pipe that goes into the sewer the rain stopped coming into my house. I also had another gutter company come out and replace the other gutter and drain because Daniel did not have the correct type of ladder to get to that part of my roof. After all this work was done my leak problem that had been plaguing me for a few years ceased. I did not have to pay $50k to fix the problem and only paid a couple of thousand all together.

I am very happy with the work that Daniel does and will be loyal customer from now on. Thanks Daniel!
