We contracted GSE to help us with water issues we were having in our backyard. The owner(Lou Vargo) came out to give us an estimate and was extremely late that day(that probably should have been a red flag). I actually didn't have to take off from work, and would have been better off meeting him later that afternoon. Once we me spoke, we felt the price we were quoted for the project was fair and committed to use GSE. The team that was sent out to work on our yard was very professional. They were led by a gentleman named Luis, who you might think owns the company with how hardworking, and knowledgeable he is.

Unfortunately, we would never see Lou(the owner) again. Lou never returned to oversee the work that was done. I was only able to reach Lou over the phone after several attempts. However, it was impossible to get him to come back to my property when I really needed him the most. We ran into an issue with our senior township inspector and I basically had to deal with everything on my own. When it was time for GSE to finally return to make the necessary corrections on the job they completed on my property, they partially charged me a fee for the work even though the township violation was no fault of my own. Lou's father(Lou Vargo Sr.) called me directly to cancel the first scheduled appointment GSE had given me to return and fix the violation. Mr. Vargo Sr. insisted that I needed to make a payment towards the job that same morning and when I refused, he canceled the scheduled project. Eventually, I had to agree to pay in order to have the work corrected after two other water companies we called said they did not feel comfortable getting involved, and did not understand why GSE had not returned immediately to make things right for us.

I can honestly tell you that the employees at this company are hardworking and very knowledgeable. They are doing the best they can with the tools they are provided. However, if you are extremely concerned about how your hard earned money is spent, and you are looking for a company where the owner will actually show he/she truly has your best interest at heart when something comes up...then you can definitely find a more reliable company with some thorough research.

I rehabbed a house in Woodbury NJ and had a water problem in the basement. Lou from GSE came out and said I did not need a French Drain in basement but a drainage system in the back yard. It cost me $ 3,975.00 and it did NOTHING. The water kept coming in.
GSE said there was nothing more they could do and offered me a refund of $250.00 We are in the process of suing them.

Very Disappointed. I made an appointment with Kathy at Garden State Earthworks to have Lou Vargo, the owner, come to my house on April 2nd, 2019, to look at a job of removing an old patio, grading the site and installing a new patio. Lou came out, measured the area and talked to me about options. I told Lou I estimate the job to be about $20,000. Lou provided some websites for pavers and recommended picking out some and then he would meet me at the Supplier to look at samples. Lou said that he probably could do this job in the late-June, early-July time frame. On April 7th, I sent an email to Kathy at Garden State Earthworks with some paver samples and asked when I can meet Lou at the Supplier. I also had a couple of questions on the pavers and said I want to add some lighting. Two weeks later, after getting no response to my email, I called the office. Kathy wasn't available but I spoke with a co-worker. I explained that per my discussion with Lou, I wanted to meet him at the Supplier and move ahead with picking out pavers and doing something with lighting. She said they are very busy but will have Lou send me an estimate. I explained that he can't send an estimate because we haven't completed the design. She then said she'd have Kathy call me to work out the details. Since I never heard back from Kathy I assume Garden State Earthworks is not interested in the job. Their web site says they tackle any project, big or small. What a total disappointment. Now when I hear their radio commercials I can't help but thinking they are just another contractor that disrespects customers and won't return a call.

Hire another company. I had to hire one to finish the job they didn't do right.

Avoid at all costs and go elsewhere. They don't stand by their work. They don't complete the work as specified in their written contract, and will not return to the site to fix what they did wrong. In fact, they won't even return a call.

I recently hired this company in July 2018 to get my basement dry. I paid close to 4800 hundred and 1 month we still get water in our basement. Customer service is horrible and would not recommend them to do anything!

I Highly recommend Garden State Earth Works. They are very professional. My back yard flooded every time we had a lot of rain. The water would go into the window well and come into the basement. Garden State Earth Works solved the problem, I have not had any problem at all. As a matter of fact, I was able to have them put in a large patio that I never could have had without the drainage system they put in.

They came in and did the job, no delays, no excuses, no problems. You will be very happy with their work.

Horrible company had drainage work done paid over $2500 only for an inspector to come and tell me and my wife the whole job was done wrong...I knew something wasn't right when all the laborers looked like they didn't have a clue what they where doing they also were VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.
