I had GAC come out for a squeaking blower fan motor in my A/C unit. The repairman looked at the system and stated that the blower motor would be $1000 to replace, which I could not believe. He then realized the fan on my outside condenser unit was not turning, and quickly concluded the capacitor for the unit was bad. He was able to replace it on the spot and the problem was resolved.

My issue with this company is that they charged me $299 for a capacitor which I found out retails everywhere for $15, and 10 minutes of labor. When I called a couple of days later to speak to a manager, I was told this was a ""flat rate"" WHICH I WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT BEFORE and if I was on their ""service plan"" for $99/year I would have received a 20% discount! Additionally, I was told if I elected to purchase a brand new system through them now (at $7,000 - $10,000) they would deduct the $299 since they would be getting their capacitor back.

My total bill for this quick fix was $388. The additional charge was for the diagnosis, which is not in dispute (I expect to pay $100 for any service company to come out to diagnose an issue and provide a quote). I understand that GAC needs to make a profit, and would expect a reasonable markup on the wholesale cost of parts, however, a 1900% markup is outrageous.

I have also contacted the Better Business Bureau, and filed a complaint with Consumer Affairs.



In response to GAC's comment:

I have a problem with your ""vision."" First of all it makes it obvious that you are all about the company and not the clients. At NO point during my lengthy conversation with management was it discussed, or even brought up, how this issue could be resolved. There was absolutely no interest in attempting to fix the problem but only to either now sell me a service plan, or a new $10,000 system.

The other problem with your vision is that it insults the many other contractors out there that we have had a great rapport with for many years. They have managed to provide quality service and fair pricing, while somehow still managing to keep their employees and their families happy. Perhaps your vision could use some corrective lenses.

We have had many issues with your company I am sad to say. When we had our furnace installed we were told we couldn't have a humidifier, next time someone came out he told us we could have a humidifier installed. He drew up detailed plans for the installation. When the technicians came out to install, they installed it incorrectly and sideways. It wasn't until another technician came out to service it that it was noticed to be installed wrong and leaking on our floor. We had several conversations with Randy about this issue and my father, who has been a long time customer of yours and referred us in the first place, even spoke with the owner about our issue. I was assured it would be fixed immediately. The original technician came out and I stayed home most of the day for his visit. I had been told it would be fixed, but he came out only to look at it again after your employees had already seen it 4 times. We had to make, yet another appt and my husband had to take a day off of work to be home for the technician to finally fix the problem. I had spoke to Randy and he assured us we would be the first appt and he would follow up after it was installed to make sure everything was right. He also told me we would be compensated in some way for your error, all the hassle and for my husband having to take a day off of work. No one called, no one followed up and we were never compensated for all the trouble we were caused by your inability to do the job the first time. The first communication I have received was a renewal bill for $295!! I am shocked at the poor service, communication and work we have received from your company. It absolutely shocks me that you would send us a renewal notice when you should be servicing it for free after all that has happened. I would expect more from this company seeing your website and the ""awards"" you have won. I hope that you take the time and effort to make this right, but I do not have high hopes at this point.

I have used them for both home AC services and for electrical services. Excellent service provided on all counts. I subscribe so that my AC gets checked 2x a year, and they actually found a leak in my plumbing valve (hose bib) when they went to clean off the outdoor unit. They have installed ceiling fans for me, replaces switched and plugs, and keep the cool in summer and toasty in winter....

Our AC stopped working this summer. We called them and they quickly arranged an a time. The technician (Jeff ?) showed up on time and he is very professional and efficient. He found the root cause in around 15 minutes and replaced the part in 10 minutes. He said he had 15 years of experience on AC repair. Perfect.

The last service was just a checkup for Spring and the technician was on time and checked the A/C inside and outside. Everything is working. I have been a customer for many, many years and even though GAC has gotten to be a very big company my service has always been prompt and efficient. I do have a service contract and it saved me more than once when there was a problem like no heat on Sunday and they were there Monday morning before 9.

Our heating system conked out in January 2016 and while we were able to heat our house with a kerosene heater that was obviously not a permanent solution. Our HVAC system was 35 years old and just couldn't be repaired. We got 5 estimates based on Yelp reviews and 4 were pretty close to each other. But, one stood out -- GAC. They had great service and the best price (we compared apples to apples on a couple of bids and GAC came out on top by a substantial amount - about $800). Fritz (their salesman) took the time to walk us through the job and even suggested solutions to the uneven heating we had been experiencing for 35 years among the three levels of our house. Because the work couldn't start for 4 days, he even sent out a tech to try to get our old system working temporarily at no charge. Their techs were professional, helpful and cleaned up after themselves. They patiently explained how to maintain the equipment and how to operate the wi fi thermostat. We couldn't be happier with our choice.

My wife and I are a frequent patron of GAC Services since moving to Gaithersburg, MD and have been extremely happy with their products and services, including the purchase and installation of a new heat pump.

Recently, our furnace started to develop a rather annoying noise when the blower motor/fan was running. The initial GAC service technician diagnosed the problem as a faulty blower motor without examining the unit while it was running. He then ordered a motor to be replaced within a week. A second technician replaced the motor, however both he and I noticed that the old motor was not firmly attached to its bracket. When he left, I examined the old motor and noticed nothing was wrong with it. After contacting GAC, my wife and I each received a telephone call from Rich Biava (one of the owners) apologizing greatly for this error. To remedy this misdiagnosis, we received a complete refund for this service. To top it off, we were allowed to keep the new motor installed in our furnace.

Because of GAC Services commitment to satisfy my wife and I, we will definitely contact them in the future regarding any repairs or most probably the purchase of a new furnace when it is needed.

I wish there were more stars! GAC Services is simply the BEST! The customer service is the best I have EVER come across. Each time I have called to set up an appointment, there has always been one shortly available. The key is that they give you a window, say 11-2, and they show up either before, or right at 11:00!! Unbelievable, I know! I can't say this will happen for everyone, but has happened for me the past 4 times I have called! Even my husband was impressed, and he is fed up with the way people do business these days! Beyond their timeliness, all the techs have been very knowledgeable, and have taken their time to explain everything so that we can understand. They have respect for your home too...putting covers on your floors, picking up any debris. The pricing is also very fair and honest....I mean, who wants to spend thousands on a new HVAC system, but when you are working with these guys, it seems painless. Thank you GAC. Can't say enough good things about this business. Keep up the great work!
